This is the second half of Steve Graf's highly successful metal detecting trip for gold in Queensland. Exploring remote country on foot in high temperatures, is well worth the effort, for some of the most impressive gold finds he's come across. Be sure to check out Part 1 if you haven't already.

Part 1 and 2 of this series is by far the most epic prospecting ever documented on you tube. Overcame extreme hardship and reaped the rewards. No fridge. No air con. Doing it tough like the old timers. And allot of colour to examine of an evening.

It's good no doubt, but some other videos of this region I've seen bigger and more nuggets from a couple of younger blokes who were full time prospectors. I'll bet this is somewhere around the Palmer Gold Fields

Not even close to how hard the pioneers had it. Consider they had no vehicle, could only carry a couple of litres of water and a very small amount of basic food like flour and salt. Only a few hand tools. Minimal clothing and bedding. No phone, medical help, maybe a mud-map.

@@eljungo902 It's vague mate as about 4 plus years ago, I can't remember a channel name or names, but two blokes in 30's I guess working on private property that's a bit I did remember in that Palmer area, but they were very nondescript about exactly wyhere because they were on very good glod. 1-2 oz nuggest. But this video produced some exceptional nuggets. I once was shown a large nugget from Clermont area when visiting a tourist business in Qld, I was gobsmacked. A large nugget of about 10 oz if I remember right, washed rounded and my hand nearly hit the floor. If I had the time and knew where the gold was like this I'd be keen to rough it a bit and make a few diggings. These stories and adventures make for very interesting discussions.

Awesome effort buddy and some more amazing finds, well worth digging down on the ground you found, that's what me and a few mates do where I prospect, after all the fires went through here a few years ago the bush is horribly thick so we just pick a spot and dig and detect as we go, sometimes we get lost sometimes just a few bits. But it's still more productive than trying to walk the bush.

Husband & I have spent time travelling, detecting, in past, with best results in Georgetown. I get nostalgic at the sound of the 'beep', and think it would be great to head off again. Like the creature comforts too much now...most of all tho, dislike the CREATURES. I thought Nth Qld would be nice to go to again, down from Dimbulah, but.... digging up wolf spider/mouse spider/funnel web variants...is enough to make me know I will never return haha. (biggest found was 2 oz'er, south of G'town...with no serious arachnid confrontations, tho the snakes were about. Funny, wrong snake has the potentially lethal outcome, but the spider kills me with fear) 🤣Great gold, brilliant adventure! Looking forward to seeing more of you...maybe less of the 'you know whats'!

Yeah I've had my 5000 for a while now and I've been pretty happy with it. Tried a few different coils and works well on all of them. To be honest from what I've heard I'm not sure that the 6000 is any better, maybe on the really tiny stuff but I'm not too worried about that. I'm more interested in depth. Apparently the 7000 is supposed to go deeper but I've never tried one. I usually like to go out for several weeks at minimum up to a few months to make a trip worthwhile, but I don't film everything, just some of it for fun. Cheers 😀.

So I am very curious as to length of time prospecting, and the final all-up tally in weight and value. I'm guessing a month and probably 10 ounces/$30,000? More of a lifestyle and some fairly good money, but not a good full-time living when costs and hardship are taken into account. A great holiday though. I can only dream as I probably have only a few years left due to age and terrible crippling health, but I live through these type of videos, and really admire and also appreciate all that is involved. Thank you Steve.
@stevegraf9276

Hi John, I usually go for several weeks at a time. But I don't film everything I find and I don't usually like to show exactly what I get in total for various reasons. As you said it's really just a great hobby or good adventure overall because there is alot of expense and a huge amount of walking involved to have continued success, but with alot of persistence I usually do ok. But there is certainly plenty of time spent finding nothing as well. And it's generally getting harder to find new areas. But it makes a great holiday for a lot of people even if they don't find much. Sorry to hear about your declining health, I'm glad you find these videos enjoyable, cheers 😃.

question, do u recommend the nugget finder coil over the DD or mono coil? is it more sensitive at all?
@stevegraf9276
@stevegraf9276 Жыл бұрын
Surprisingly I've never actually used a DD coil which probably seems a bit strange. I've always been meaning to get one but haven't got around to it. So far I've had pretty good success with only mono coils but I believe the DD is good for highly mineralised ground and maybe near power lines etc, but I'm not sure if they get quite the same depth as a mono, but don't take my word for that. I've only ever used commander coils and nugget finder and both are great but I think the large nugget finder coil is my favourite for depth. And I can still find sub gram nuggets with it also.

Is there a main vein in the area when you find the gold in the quartz rock ?
@stevegraf9276
@stevegraf9276 Жыл бұрын
Its definitely possible there could be one somewhere nearby but I haven't found one yet. But it could be just a bit deeper than the detector can reach. I always detect over any quartz outcrops etc but just haven't struck a vein yet.

The birds up that way have been known to grab burning sticks and spreading the fire so it funnels creatures into tighter area for easier pickings.

I only have one question. What detector+coil(s) do you use?
@stevegraf9276
@stevegraf9276 11 ай бұрын
Hi, I use a minelab gpx 5000 with a 15 inch nugget finder coil. I've had the same detector for several years and it's done me well. And I'm still using it. I tend to use fairly large coils for more ground coverage and hopefully depth. I may miss some smaller targets because the small coils will pick up smaller targets but I'm not too worried about that, I'd rather cover more country. Cheers.

Just wondering, were you up Palmerville sept/ Oct 2021. If so the muscet hand gun, is it a charm or actually a fob watch winder? Great to see your videos, what's your favourite coil, the 17 X 13, or 15 inch?
@stevegraf9276
@stevegraf9276 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I think I was up there then, I can hardly remember what the item you're referring to was but if it's what I'm thinking then I'm still not sure either what it is 😃. In regards to the coils, I think I prbly slightly prefer the 15inch round. They're both great and I haven't actually tested them side by side to compare depth etc but I do prefer a solid coil as opposed to a spoked because you can turn the skid plate as it gets worn on the sides where as the spoked only goes one way so when it starts to wear you can't turn it. Also the spoked can sometimes get a bit caught up in sticks etc, cheers 🤠.

@@stevegraf9276 you showed me a coin and a little gun one day there. When I was doing research on the fob watch key that I found. I saw what I believe is the one you found within the selection of old fob watch keys. A black powder hand gun.
