Hi graham, a fellow flight attendant here. We are required to wear stockings with our uniform. We always have to carry a lot of extras with us because if we have a tear we’re required to change it right away (annoying, I know) we also do have to wear a shoe with at least a 1 inch heel that’s presentable to walk through the airport. Most all flight attendants have heels for the airport and shoes for on the plane. Since we are the main employees representing our companies they train us to always be tip top🤷🏽‍♀️ it’s a lifestyle

1. Stockings are mandatory! And most flight attendants will invest in good compression stockings to help with blood circulation (being in the air does take a toll on everything). 2. High heels must be worn with your uniform. You can get reported for being seen walking around the airport with flats or other shoes...which will result in a write up. Tragic, I know.

The woman side of H&M is way more expensive than the men’s side, a sweater on the woman side can cost 40 dollars vs 20 in the men section. Being a woman in general is more expensive if you calculate makeup, hair, nails. And sure you don’t have to do that but a lot of it make you seems more professional and presentable. Especially if your a woman of color.

@coco marineblu she probably talking about hair. Alot of company dont consider certain hairstyles appropriate. So you would need to go to a stylist to get it done regularly, each time buying all products for installation (e.g extension) and upkeep (wraps, gel, hair care etc). For this industry, you would probably need to go every month to get it reinstalled, neater or redone. You also need to invest in alot of product to keep it neat and have it looking fresh. Hairstyles dont really last long and start to look unkept very quickly, for the standard of this industry.

I am a Flight Attendant, and I generally agree. Yes, men have to wear suits and stuff, but they don't have to wear makeup. We are required to wear makeup. We are required to wear stockings with our dresses (men don't wear dresses, obviously, so they can wear cheaper socks). I'm lucky, because my airline subsidizes the cost of stockings for women, but there's still the question of makeup, lotion, watches! Nails, hair, it all adds up.

It sounds like a lot of these high expense things have to do with their job. Most airlines require their flight attendants to look "put together" which often means makeup. I know some have it in their rulebooks things against acne and other blemishes. My guess is the facials and treatments are for that. Stockings are part of the uniform as well. There are some really interesting videos out there about flight attendant requirements. Especially in Korea, flight attendant requirements are really high. There's even special university programs in Korea for flight attendants. It's wild when compared to the common American idea of flight attendants.

My friends are flight attendants and they get scolded when their hair and make up look “cheap”. They want you to look like the apple pie American girl, but if you use wet and wild lip stain that flakes off or foundation that too orange not taken down the neck.... you can get written up for it from those ass hat customers who think their attendants looked “trashy”. I’m talking my friend made the mistake of only having red lipstick and her dark shadows for touch up in her purse when she was running late for work. She didn’t have foundation and applied what she had to look presentable. Her hair was clean uniform neat but her make up made her look less desirable and she got written up for it. Another friend was commented as being too fat to fit down the aisle because her hip brush past his shoulder for sticking out. Those comment cards are real, and women are held to crazy beauty standards. Heels as a uniform while flying and walking for 12-14 hours a day? That’s so brutal. I would do this for a living but the $$ to spend on maintaining the youth of your skin while in such high altitudes is a downward battle... :( that level of dry with stress is asking a lot

You have to wear heels outside of the plane but once you get onto the plane you can change to flats. America's airlines are actually pretty lenient on uniforms and appearances. Obviously everyone knows there are other requirements in other countries such as height, weight and age but won't go there lol.

Once you begin serving you change to flats, but boarding and deplaning heels are required....also airlines in the US tend to work more flights and work longer hours in a day compared to other countries with no “break rooms/ crew corridors “ or an official break for meals ...but America is slowly catching up for things like that

1. Makeup, stockings, hairstyles and heels are compulsory. - So they have to spend on foundations, blushers, lipliner, lipstick, and mascara. BC your supervisor WILL check. - Hair gel/spray, hair tie, hairpins, and hairnets are all compulsory. - Heels must have a certain height to them. 2. They have LONG HOURS. They can spend 8 to 12 hours standing for their entire shifts. For women, its worst bc they have to wear heels. LONG HOURS + HEELS -->>> Really, really tired. You will have to travel home and the airport is always located at a FAR area. Hence, no energy to cook. 3. Flying can wreak your damn face. Additionally, women are MADE to wear makeup for their job. So, their skins are way worst than their male colleagues. 4. When you're overseas for a few hours/days, you don't pay for mobile internet services. So you can't take an Uber. *PS I know all of this due to my Airport staff's training. I was made to wear makeup, hair stuff, painful heels, long hour shiftsx6 days a week, and had long local transportation. I return home just in time for my eight-hour rest, woke up, shower, go to work, and do the same thing again. No one has time to cook man. @The Graham Stephan Show Love your show btw

My sister gave up her orthodontic career to become a flight attendant. She would be treating her patients and listen to their stories of traveling here, there, everywhere, so she became a f/a and would work her patients around her schedule and just decided to do it all the way. Twenty-five years later, she is still loving it. They get paid more than that with the company she works for. They are also required to wear a watch at all times and make-up too.

So while passengers are boarding the aircraft flight attendant are not getting paid until the everyone is boarded and the doors have closed. Interesting video to watch as I am a Flight Attendant as well! Some things that caught my attention were: 1. The stockings point. Yes, it is mandatory to wear stockings BUT that's only if you wear the dress or skirt. Not sure about airlines in other countries but in Canada, the airlines here allow women to purchase uniform pants and you could wear socks with those instead. Also, if we wanted to purchase compression stockings/socks, those costs are covered by our benefits :) Side note: I even have some coworkers who are female and they wear the mens uniform with the tie all the time (men are allowed to wear the dress as well, but it has to completely follow the uniform standards with the stockings and scarf, etc.). 2. For the 2 airlines I worked at, women also don't necessarily have to wear heels in the airport, but there is a list of requirements the shoes must meet to be compliant with company standards. Plus we have winter here! Imagine wearing heels in snow, haha. 3. Makeup is also not mandatory for women at my airline when working, but if you do wear makeup, there is a standard of how it should look.
