Might I recommend for all the beginners, get a Field Guide of Birds in your particular state/area. They are incredibly helpful, most of them list the birds not by name but by color so you can easily find a bird you don't recognize and a list in the back to check off birds as you see them.

As I am retired and spend much time at home, I’ve come to love my backyard bird pets ( all are free to fly away) and we have truly communicated. Southeastern New England and surrounded by leafy woods and open backyard. Many species with birdhouses and nests nearby. I love watching them do their thing. It is a great way to connect with nature, peace, and just maybe philosophical

I like your note about identifying a bird as a hummingbird by its flight. Paraphrased, basically you just need to be sober, ha. ha. I struggle with identifying the different hummingbird species when they are in flight, though. Its all a beautiful blur. Thank you for this amazing tutorial. I had no idea there were so many ways I could identify a bird

Last winter, a belted kingfisher stayed all winter by a lake near me, here in Pennsylvania, which I know is very unusual behavior. I thought they migrated before winter.

Don't bother getting complete course. There is just too much info that is crammed into each section. Better off buying a book. The Lectures where he describes each variety of birds would have been more useful if the call's were included for each bird! Only a handful were included.

@TheGreatCourses6 жыл бұрын
Hi Raji, you could try taking a photo of the bird and using Google Image search to find matching images, or there may be a birding group in your area who could help! There's even a number of bird identification sites online where you can put in characteristics and find out which one you've been watching. Good luck!
