Every year millions of migratory birds make their epic journey across Europe - south in the autumn, north in early spring. But recently there have been fewer in our skies, some species have even vanished entirely. What
could be discouraging them from flying over our lands?
For over twenty years Christian Moullec has watched and studied birds. He learned to pilot a microlight to fly alongside them. He wants to understand, and act to help these birds continue their seasonal pilgrimages.
And so, he has dreamt up a slightly mad project: a school of migration. He will fly off with a small group of geese. Discover, with them, the pitfalls and dangers of our modern world, and find a new way of crossing our lands. Then, he will leave them to their freedom. With the hope that his pupils will retain their journey’s lessons, and one day pass these on to other wild geese.
For the first time ever, get into the very heart of a migratory journey, flying with the greylag geese and understanding their behavior.
Director: Franck Cuvelier
Writers: Franck Cuvelier, Christian Moullec
Stars: Serge Renko, Nathan Willcocks

I used to live by a lake in NW Pennsylvania. Every spring swans stopped at the lake and the town nearby on their way north. The whole town awaited their coming, and the day they arrived, people excitedly spread the news - the swans are here! Yes, it meant that spring was here, but more than that it was an annual event - the return of our sisters and brothers who can fly. They were OK. I never tired of watching them put down on the surface of the lake, feet stretched out, wings slowing, and that last gentle PLOP into the water.

Have you ever thought, who has guided them about the routes on which they fly? Our aviation industry has reached to this advancement climax after the research and experiments of decades. GPRS systems, flight controlling and many other factors are involved to destine an air flight safely. But how is this possible for these birds to make such lengthy flights on very accurate routes without any external information and help?
@devinmcgroot7560

@@khurramshahzad1399 these birds have built-in navigation systems in their brains. These birds have a sense of which way to fly by instinct. They use the sun, moon, and stars to navigate, but some newer research suggests that they even sense the magnetic field of the earth like a compass. Human beings also can navigate as good as birds, if they also rely on sun, moon, and stars. In fact, in Micronesia sailors can navigate vast open waters using only stars, sun, and moon, and they even look at the ocean's current. They do not use a compass at all, and are still able to navigate.

Somehow this information has been passed on from generation to generation of these birds - physical landmarks don't change that quickly, and they may be able to sense magnetic energy in the earth, and who knows what else they may be sensing that we can't yet. And if they fly at night, there's always the possibility of navigating by the stars... It's pretty awe inspiring, what ever they're doing! @@khurramshahzad1399

I watch an infinite amount of nature documents. This is the most majestic and enchanting one I've ever watched. You flying with these geese and capturing such beautiful footage is breathless to say the least. I give you five stars, 10 stars for your bravery and compassion flying with these geese. I have learned so much from this documentary of bird migration. I have always been amazed how animals have a built in gps navigational system. I'm glad you didn't lose one on this journey, and was very sad when you had to leave them at the end. The narration was right on cue, and your voice was mesmerizing and perfect for capturing this incredible migration. Thank you so much for your time and effort for putting this together.

Thank you, for having made this, and also for your representation of the highest and finest values of humankind; compassion, love, empathy - which, rather remarkably, or perhaps not, seem to be mimicked back by life other than our own. A universal way of living; a universal language. I hope the geese are carrying out a thriving life, wherever they are. And I hope you, too, sir, are faring well. My fond regards, and very best wishes. You make the world a better place to live in :)

These populations he makes sound like they are shrinking is completely false! Of the 21 known populations of geese that migrate through Europe 16 of them are expanding exponentially 4 are stable and only one is shrinking. There are more geese today in both Europe and North America than there ever have been! There are so many snow geese in North America that they're literally destroying their nesting habitat in the tundra which is causing huge damage to other species.

Very beautiful! I was worried about the Geese throughout the journey. The documentary should've followed through the Geese's journey a bit further to see if they can mingle successfully with their wild counterparts.

Unless I watched this amazing singular doc., I couldn't believe the concept that humans could be those birds adoptive father. With a pleasant surprise, I was wrong. Thanks to all this unique & transcendent doc., I've gained new insight into the behavior of the migratory birds, GEESE. Btw, this French man certainly deserves a pat on the back for a job exceptionally well done. His single-minded determination & unwavering dedication for those birds' well-being are truly worth being mentioned w/ the utmost praise. Soundly enjoying, admiring, & appreciating this one & only rare unlike any other doc. at the opulent comfort of my home in California,,,,,I wonder if I am the only one who feels so!?.,,,,(06/13/23)

Tellement beau ❤❤❤

This is the best documentary on birds I have watched. Informative, and emotional at the same time. Speechless... Kudo to the effort of those who were involved in the process of making it.

These living dinosaurs deserve the world! Birds are my favorite group of living animals, not just because of their dinosaurian ancestry, not just because of their feathering, not just because of their impressive intelligence, not just because of their anatomical and behavioral abilities, not just because of their striking colors, but because they have been around for at least 145 million years.
