If you do work for the King's Guard, they really need to change that sign to "Do Not Touch The Horses". Those poor horses don't deserve to be harassed in this manner, nor do the guards. I do hope that if you do work for them, that some change can be put in place to change the signs and make it so that if people try to pet your horse then they get shouted at. Heck I would even be down for some arrests and fines handed out. It is not okay to touch a service dog, army dog or police dog when they are working. The same should go for the horses. I also don't get why tourists think this is okay? Like would you go up to someone's dog and just start doing this? We teach our kids to not go and pet strange dogs, the same should apply here. Just baffles me. I have been around horses all my life and I can see those poor beasts are getting frustrated and tense. It is not good for them.

@@susannebrunberg4174 No I don't think, what a stupid thing to say. Being a solider and Kings guard isn't like working in a shop, where if you have a bad day, you decide to quit. The guards are trained soldiers and the horses are highly trained, they are doing an important job and deserve far more respect than the rude, obnoxious tourists give them. The tourists take no notice of signs, they think the guards and horses are their for their entertainment, as if they are Disney characters, the horses aren't on a petting farm, and how would you like to have your face touched, scratched all the time and have people poking fun at you whilst doing your job? @@susannebrunberg4174 You clearly have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. This isn't Disneyland and the Guards are not a theme park attraction. They are trained soldiers who are performing an official military duty. When not doing this they might be in a combat situation anywhere where the forces are stationed in the world. 'He should quit and get another job'? How ridiculous are you? So the fact that he or she is in military service and has joined the forces for a considerable number of years means nothing to you does it? I think you need to learn about what Guardsmen do in any country and why they are there. This is the same in any country who have state buildings to guard. Just because the soldiers are in ceremonial uniform and performing a duty as per their rank and position doesn't instantly mean they can be harrassed and disrespected by ill informed and rude tourists who think they can wander aimlessly wherever they want and disturb the horses and annoy them. It would be pure common sense to have an exclusion zone around these Guards and their horses, to prevent the tourists from crowding and touching them, and I’m pretty sure the army would rather have it that way. I get the feeling that there is pressure on them from above to be as accessible as possible to the public and just deal with it, because they are among the tourist attractions that bring a lot of revenue to the public purse. Personally I doubt if it would make a significant difference to tourism revenue if the public were kept back a couple of metres, which many of them do anyway.

Since WW2 THE public have taken everything for granted, rules don't apply to them, they are there for everyone else but not them.. This is a military establishment where there are working soldiers carrying out their daily duties each day. Allowing the public in to see What goes on is a luxury thats wearing thin as it's not respected by the majority.

What is it going to take for people to wake up there is an overwhelming increase in the harassment and rein pulling that has to stop there has to be a change in the format and rules the public has been given the privilege of watch this take place the sharp increase in guard harassment and this non stop rein pulling and mocking the guards has to stop my complaint already submitted to Clarence house and one on the way to the palace, I have seen enough. This goes on day after day after day, this is not a sideshow or petting zoo.

The little girl saying bye bye to the horses warmed my heart and gave me a little bit of hope for the next generation. Please respect our soldiers, horses, the uniform and my country and stop grabbing/pawing at them all. They are doing a job and must get fed up of these stupid tourists who seem to think they are on duty for their entertainment, like in a theme park. One day they will use their swords as these morons are getting more grabby with every video clip.

While many tourists have never seen or touched a horse, they must respect that these King’s guards and Kings’ horses are engaged in actual work. If people want to pet or feed horses or other animals, I strongly recommend a petting zoo. An aside…the breed of these guard horses are not known to be used friendly like pleasure horses are.

This is Horse Guards at Westminster in London. The cavalry guard regiments that you'll see here are the Lifeguard with red uniform and gold plume (on duty in this upload) and the Blues and Royals with blue uniform and red plume. There's an informative Wikipedia page about Horse Guards with more details and historical information if you're interested. No respectful question is ever stupid. It's a shame that you don't think you'll be able to visit because you sound like the kind of tourist that's welcomed here.
