Just a caveat: if you want a wha and you want to turn it off completely (not to colour your sound even if you are not moving up and down the pedal) then you have to assign the wha function to the "FX "slot NOT TO the "pedal FX" slot using Tone Studio, so that you can turn the whole thing on or off via the GA-FC controller

I express daily. With that said there is a problem not mentioned, using Boss volume pedals with the GA-FC, and that is that they do not change the tone characteristics. Ex. When you lower your volume knob, your gain decreases, so you can quickly clean up your sound. The GA-FC combined with a boss FV500H (volume/expression pedal) and the one you demonstrated in this video, do not do that. When you raise or lower the volume, no change in tone (i.e. sound doesn't clear up). That's a fatal flaw, but there is a solution. If your volume/exp pedal has an input jack (like the Boss FV500H) you can run your guitar into that input, run the output of the volume pedal into the front of the amp (ignore the GA-FC entirely) and suddenly your volume pedal will act correctly, cleaning up your tone as you decrease volume. That is the primary use, to me, of a volume pedal. Why the manual does not mention that at all (for either the FV500, the GA FC or the Katana Artist) I will never know. It's a much more functional use of a volume pedal than just "louder or quieter".

Whilst expessing daily I want to refer to my comment a few days ago about the foot controller, there is a work around of course - just write the same tone to two channels then delete the expression pedal effect from one of them. This way you can turn the effect on and off by selecting the channels on the footswitch with exactly the same tone.

Andy, great video on Expression Pedal usage on the Katana! New to channel and noticed you're using an iPad/Tablet to bring up the Tone Studio to modify on the fly. Are you connected wired or wireless and if wireless, would love to know how you're doing it as I'm befuddled with all the videos out there on how to connect via Bluetooth (as Boss somehow forgot to include that LOL). One thing you didn't cover, which makes the EXP pedal into the back of the GA-FC even more useful ... if you plug simple tap tempo switch into the second EXP input, you can program the BTS to get the tap tempo switch to alternate between two different modes/parameters every time you press it - e.g. between VOLUME and WAH or between VOLUME and PEDAL BEND. Ok...good vid..I learned a lot. But you did not recommend the proper expression pedal for Artist. There is a low impedance and high impedance pedal available. I think we need a high for guitar but I don't want to buy the wrong one. I am looking to put a volume pedal and expression (mostly for wah) and will be buying 2 pedals. Can you tell us which is for the proper expression? The instructions for the pedals AND amp leave a hell of a lot to desire. I'm getting it but it started out as a mystery. Thanks...rock on

@@TheGuitarGeek is there an amp that you don’t need a PC to get great tones? I’m a beginner and I just bought a Roland Micro Cube GX because it’s all knobs and I don’t have a PC. It’s a rocking little box I think but I would like to have mid controls like a 3-band EQ so I can sharpen my non musical ears and have more versatility in tone. Was playing Santeria by Sublime and it took 20min to dial something in. To be fair I just got the amp 2-days ago… but I’m a bedroom rockstar (not really I’m trash lol) so I don’t want anything bigger than a Katana 50mkII… do you think I should sell my Roland and get the Yamaha THR10II? I know that has a EQ settings but was more than double what I paid for my Roland MC-GX ($140) I got from Sweetwater as a demo… in the box with everything and could’ve passed as brand new. I’m really hoping I could use I-link and hookup my iPhone 14 Pro and utilize GarageBand on iOS… do you think that’s doable?

Okay, I get all that. You answered my question in that I cannot use both outputs of the EV-30 at the same time. But... what would happen if you plugged both EXP jacks on the EV-30 into the FX and volume jacks on the GA-FC... could you assign one as a wah and then the other could be volume? Then one or the other would work depending on which effect was selected...? I have a GA-FC and I am about to purchase an EV-30. I am hoping I can set it up this way. On a slightly different topic, do you know of a way to use the footswitch between individual effects without having to use the tiny, very non-ergonomic button on the top of the amp? For my MOD effects, I have a chorus, a phaser and a flanger programmed into that channel. Without the footswitch I have to press the tiny little button (did I mention that they are very non-ergonomic?) on the amp by the effect control. Using the footswitch, is there a way to switch between those individual effects without having to fumble for the tiny button?

Just trying to understand the basic operation. I will likely use the exp pedal as a wah only. I have to assign the wah parameters to individual presets to use, and the only way to turn the wah on and off is to enter and exit the preset, correct? I cannot use the pedal across the board, i.e. all presets and panel. Otherwise, there is no way to turn it off. Do I have that right?

Ok...I figured out another question. IF you're on wah in the expression mode with GAFC, does zero pedal turn OFF the wah effect entirely? I don't want wah on all the time but would like to have it AVAILABLE. IF the channel has to have the wah on all the time with the expression pedal set to zero then it will not have the effect I want to have and I'll still need a wah separate from the GAFC.

Does anyone know how to use tone studio to place pedal volume before input boss katana 100 MKII? I want the tails of my effects to ring out. I can do it by placing a volume pedal before the input "manually" but would rather save a cord and go right into the GA-FC. I don't see any way to arrange the chain with volume before amp.
