Hi there, thanks for a really informative review. I received my FCV 100 through the post today... couldn't see how to insert the battery, so tuned into your review...Oh dear!!! signal loss...crunching... noise....dodgy battery insertion. Man was I disappointed even without trying it out. So with great trepidation and with head hung low I made my way to my practice room. Still had no idea how to insert the battery so simply removed the only screw underneath the unit. To my amazement, the pedal separated in half fully exposing the battery compartment. In went the battery, pedal halves slotted back together nicely, tightened the screw...not bad at all. Now the serious bit. Patched the new pedal onto the end of my pedalboard and into my solid state practice amp on clean with headphones on to really be able to scrutinize the pedal's shortcomings you pointed out. Again to my amazement...everything was cool. No noise...no signal loss...not a sausage!!! At first I thought that maybe I'd missed something, so fired up nearly half of my pedalboard, and all seemed well. I had changed from downhearted to ecstatic in a heartbeat. I know the real test will be with my band when amped up into my Peavy Valveking, PA and a mile of cable, but so far she's looking and sounding good (lucky 'ole me!). So in conclusion. Is it possible yours maybe faulty? Also did you use a power supply? as I have found those to creat noise on some of the cheaper pedals. Maybe I just got lucky for once...but who's complaining?!!! Not me. Cheers. Col.

It uses power because it uses 5volt through the pot to control the cv expression feature in some keyboards such as Behringer deepmind synths. The power adapter is also positive polarity on the centre, which is opposite to most pedal power units which have negative polarity to the centre of the plug. You can get an adapter to reverse this and daisy chain it from a 9 volt power adaptor.

Bought this thing a few days ago; my idea was to control two midi keyboards with it , I needed it for my VST hammond setup, to add an expression /midi CC11/ functionality. So it works only in "cv" mode /out2/, without battery. The other out 1 is for audio only. Noticed that the potentiometer inside does not works smoothly, there are signal interruptions at bottom /between value 10-40/ and near to top /100-115/. Still can be used, but it's with poor quality. It was necessary to apply WD40 on all friction surfaces because it creaked. Overall, it looks solid, but it's a crap inside.

Treadle treadle little star. One hint: if you happen to own this one, always keep a buffer between the pedal and the guitar. I put boss DS-1 in front of it and there is no signal loss. Except for annoying hiss from FCV. This is definitely example of bad engineering. The hiss is not even the problem of supply ripple sensitivity. Noise is there on battery power as well .

I struggled with the battery also, especially with re-attaching the lid. Until I discovered that you don’t have to loosen the screw. The piece of metal that’s screwed to the lid functions as a spring. So you just pull the lid off and push it back in place. That way it suddenly becomes very easy. Bit of a shame it’s not mentioned in the user manual though. I noticed the noise also. Also using a 9V battery. Is it possible that it would improve using 12V?

So basically, avoid unless you're using it purely as an exp pedal to control other effects. I would still be on the side of caution - even if it's not an audio signal the noise from it could still cause ground noise issues in larger rigs!

as to the tone suck, i think it's good to make sure the volume pedal goes in the number 2 spot in whatever signal chain. for example if you have distortion or overdrive, use that first because it beefs up the signal before it heads to this tone abbatoir. i'm noticing there's some kind of digital smoothing in the volume control that seems to cause a strong sense of latency. and if i move the pedal fast, it can even lose awareness of where the pedal position should be for a moment. i think there's an envelope follower program inside the microprocessor that's converting the analog pot to a digital volume control, which is smart, but the smoothing is a bit too much for my taste. but i own it now and reselling it wouldn't be worth my time. it's an interesting experience nonetheless. if you are serious about gear, not buying this and instead buying a high end 200-400 dollar unit might be worth it and you can think of not buying the behringer as a 30 dollar discount off what would be an inevitable purchse.

Treadle. I've owned this pedal for 7+ years. If you can use a Phillips #2 screw-driver (left-handed driver is optional) (this leaves acoustic guitar players out) changing the 9 vdc internal battery takes around 60 seconds. Seriously. It's 1 large screw. I really like TheGuitarGeek. But I've known people with his screw-driver limitations. It's OK; he can do other useful things. 🙂 BTW, that large hole on the North-end underside is for the 12vdc power adapter to go thru. There are 4 other holes on the port and bow underside for securing pedal to a platform. I use it as an expression pedal.

This vid is DEAD BALLS ON!!! This is exactly what I discovered with mine! The pedal is a piece of shit to say the least!!!

Very soon, this pedal will become extinct. Behringer is promoting TC Eletronic and MIDAS as their prime money earning platforms. I am still in a dilemma whether to buy it as stocks are ending on amazon in India. With that noise, I would not prefer it even though I have a Noise Gate in my pedal chain but no expression pedal to control modulation. Thanks. I watched this fully.

You’re welcome. I would not recommend buying this

@@TheGuitarGeek Ok, I will control my urge:) But I use a pre-amp Behringer TUBEULTRAGAIN MIC500 USB which has a switch to control noise below 60Hz (ground loops) and I am a bedroom player though I have 4th album to be releasing soon on KZbin. In my life, my chances of gig or playing on stage are absent. Would your opinion remain the same?

It’s a tone sucker. I really can’t recommend it man. Especially for recording. There are many better alternatives that are not much more expensive

does it work with the boss katana?

It does work with boss katana. You need to buy/build a stereo cable with ring and tip inverted on each side. It also work flawlessly in the FXloop (no volume or tone loss). This "geek" is using a low impedance pedal right after the guitar, that's why he thinks the pedal is bad. Use it after a buffered pedal and will work fine.
