The Nocturne Mystery Brain Echo is the er.. Brainchild of Nocturne Brain pedals Tavo. I love echo pedals so when I was recently made aware of this Echo machine I was pretty excited, but I had just bought the Strymon Volante. “You must try the Nocturne Mystery Brain!”said many a rockabilly addict, so I said .. “ok!”
Here we are and boy I’m glad for the polite hysteria that came my way- these things are awesome! Watch to find out why and stick around to the end where I really let loose and have some dialled in fun!
Note* I don’t know a heap about the details, I’ll just show you what I like about what happens when I turn knobs!

Excellent demo and explanation... tech has changed so much to incorporate some highly diverse functions in such a compact package. The echorec we used in 1970 was the size of a toaster oven.

Try the using the side FX insert jack, you can put the Soul Food or other drive pedal inserted between the Pre-Amp and the Tape-Delay using a stereo-splitter or FX-insert type cable.

Great vid, awesome pedal, knew you'd like it :-D Idd wouldn't call one better then the other, each is their own thing. Both are nice imo. Quick tip: If you leave the abby on by default with the preamp and dial back the pre amp volume so it doesn't gain up the signal too much, got it at around 10. It's a nice boost to the dynamic range.

Dr Don. Do you use an overdrive pedal to get more Stray Cats type dirt if needed sometimes? I was wondering if the pre-amp setting could be used as a sort of overdrive, to reduce the number of pedals needed, but turn off otherwise... guess that loses something though.

@@AthelstanEngland I do use an overdrive. I have 5 pedals always on. The only thing i turn off and on is the Echo side of the Brain and my EQ.

They aren't cheap to import to the UK but definitely worth it. What settings are you using on the Soul Food?

I have a very specific setting I swear I go to even if I’m not paying attention (the pedal has texts marks on it) with volume around 10 oclock, drive between 9 and 10 ok lock and treble a smidge past 12 o clock! Hope that helps, yeah same with getting it here to oz but at the end of the day a lot of the pedals you compare it with aren’t cheap anyway! Thanks for commenting!

Complete aside but what guitar/patch cables are you using - they look really nice? Funny enough seeng your Supro amp, when my Laney LC15R died I tried a Supro Blues King but didn't really get on with it.... believe it or not I now use Joyo American Sound amp pedal straight into the PA (Bose L1) and to me the sound is great much better than the more expensive tech 21 Blonde I tried first.

It’s funny I don’t love the sansamp myself (tech 21), I had one and just found it wasn’t that good! The joys American sound pedal is cool and that’s great you could use the amp in a box in line like that! The patch leads - was it the tweed ones? I got them from echo tone in Victoria, I think they were just making them themselves? Not too sure!

Hey man, the more you push the preamp it will drive your amp, and with Abby mode it gives you a really nice squeeze in the upper mids and tightens the bass up a little for a glassy drive. There’s plenty of headroom though so my setup is partially responsible I believe!
