What do you think of this - the Newest addition to the Pietro Beretta Collection.
The SL2 is the new flagship clay gun from Beretta, feturing a detachable trigger and new action design. We headed to Beretta HQ to find out more about the development as well as giving the gun a full test and overview!
Our thanks to Beretta for their continued support of the channel, and allowing us access to the factory and engravers.
Enjoy!

I had hoped for it to be a smaller step up from a DT, but once I had taken in the following I guess I understand it better. So simply put, the SL2 is a hybrid between An SO10 (£96k) and a DT (£10k). Its closest relative is the SL3 at £21,350. The fact it’s less than the sl3 is surprising to me, I definitely appreciate the increased machine time and technology over the engraving of the SL3. The gun has a production limit of 150 a year maximum as well, which obviously affects the economics somewhat.

@@tgsoutdoors thanks fornthe reply. I'd personally have liked it more mass production with a dt style price tag, like a better, upmarket cynergy i guess. Ah well

I don’t think it is over priced, they will sell the 150 per year with ease. Sl3 for game sl2 for clays. At this price point buyers the cost isn’t a concern to buyers. They probably spend 10k-30k on shooting per year anyway

Thanks for another cool and informative video Johnny! All the good/great gunmakers steal like an artist and have for a very long time. This is meant as a compliment by the way. In watching your video on the SL2 I see elements from several places. Boss inspired action with a nod to Perazzi. Rizzini and other Italian bottom of the mono block chamber end where it has the square shoulders to lock into the action as an additional reinforcement to bolster the already excellent Beretta recoil shoulders. The bore work that can point to the work and innovation of several barrel smiths and companies through the decades. We really do live in a golden age of firearms.

Every time a company re-invents jug chokes, I laugh a little harder. The concept of tight-to-open-to-tight bores + choking has been around since the 1870s and it comes around as the 'state of the art' and disappears again and again through history. The original jug chokes, then overbored barrels (which allowed gases to escape around the wad, creating the same slow-down a jug choke creates before being constricted), Cutts compensators, Tula chokes, Brain chokes, now Beretta doing it again (and with a 'normal' 12 gauge .724 bore diameter to boot). With all the simulations we have today, we forget that those before us could reach the same conclusions through trial and error. Many found 'better results through XYZ' and implemented them. Then, in our modern hubris, we throw it all away because "they didn't have the advanced technology we have," only to re-converge on the same results. What is old is new again, and with a much higher price tag to reinvent what we've known to work well for centuries.

Just my 2 cents...... any mechanical mechanism that requires slamming the action shut to properly fit it, is not made to specification in the first place. The demand for custom firearms indicates they are truly custom (one of a kind) items. Manufacturing with 5 axis CNC machines indicates the opposite (or at least a more repeatable method). In a world that can manufacture steel to +/-.005mm (or less) every single day, in any form, shape or style, why would you pay so much for something that is clearly not "custom"? Materials? Heat treating? Workmanship? What are you paying for, if not, just the name or style you like.

@@jeffmcgrath2202 I have an A400 and love it. It is a great machine that does what I need for a fraction of the cost of an SL2, DT10, or DT11. All I am saying is, Why would anyone pay 10 to 30+K for a two shot firearm that is not a custom, hand worked piece of art? Really?, what makes your $25K over under worth more than 10 times your $2k semi-auto? 10 to 20 years ago it was custom engraving, fit, finish and wood. Now you can do 400 hours of hand engraving in 5 hours on a CNC laser, most fit is done on a CNC 5 axis mill and finish is applied with DLC coating technology that has been well established as a manufacturing norm for a decade. A lot has changed in 500 years! Slamming an action shut in a video that was clearly made to advertise the product does not speak well to advancements in technology. Again...just my 2 cents.
@angelos8958

You are paying for the name firstly, the potential of increasing your scores secondly and i guess the bragging rights. Its a clay shooting tool. Not really a custom gun that you will buy and get your custom unique engravings, hand build etc. Clay shooting is an expensive sport and for a lot of shooters 20k is pocket change

I shouldn't The middle, I should see the barrel, I should see that streak of light reflecting metal and it connecting to the grip, I should see that muted and dull black with that cone engraving catches the light...
