Unfortunately this is a dying industry, along with all the other tradition field sports/lifestyle. We are being conditioned as a country to accept the big corporations, look at what happened in Denmark in 2019. The government basically said they were the largest polluters and they cannot use fertilizers and other chemicals. So say it was a ploy to get these long-standing land owners to sell their land (for the government to swipe up). Just look at the hysteria around fox hunting in the UK. I am a fan of traditions and the country way of life, but the city folk have been told that food comes from asda and farmers just want to shoot birds and rip apart foxes for fun. Its really sad to see what's happening but in 30 years I will be surprised if firearms will be accessible to anyone. Farmers will probably have to fill out a form to request the police to dispatch an animal. Madness

After coming across this channel about a year ago, I wanted to see what all the rage was about these Hull cartridges. So after 20 years of shooting, I bought my first Hull slab (Sovereign to be exact), and when I saw the price, I jokingly said “f me, do they come with a new gun!?”. But after my first round, I’m not exaggerating when I say I felt like I’d just bought a new gun. I know they’re expensive, but the confidence they give is priceless, and for me they bring in the results, easily a 15% improvement.

Great video. I would love to see more Hull cartridges available here in the USA. I believe they are imported but I would not call them widely available. Hull's reputation here is that of a premium load and most who have shot them seem to agree they are in the category of "you get what you pay for.". But finding Hull consistently is a problem. Would love to see a broader push into the US market.

Was my go to cartridge for many years until the prices went up and up. Was unwilling to drop down to the cheaper punchy cartridges as my scores suffered. Real shame as I always wanted to buy British. Now shoot Fiocchi which to be fair are phenomenal cartridges and 20% cheaper cartridges for cartridge when compared to Hull. Plus you’ll already find Fiocchi components in Hull so why not go to source. Great Vid as always JC and Sasha.

Excellent content, as usual. Speaking of polyethylene wads, the plastic one-piece wad was invented in 1958 by Ronald Comerford, an avid trap shooter who was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1934 and attended Cleveland's West Technical High School ('West Tech' to us locals) but has spent much of his life in Boardman, Ohio. In 1963, Winchester purchased his one-piece plastic wad Patent for only $50,000. Perhaps he should have held out for more, but (per our government's online 'CPI Inflation Calculator') $50,000 in July 1963 had roughly the buying power equivalent of $498,000 in July this year. Ron claimed it took him only 15 minutes to create the design diagram, and he had a local machinist cut the first single-cavity mold.

Hull hydro wad perform very well but 2 years on and left out all year round they still look brand new. How long is it expected to take for them to break down ? I know of one shoot who bans them and treats them as plastic!
@akafiley
@akafiley Жыл бұрын
That's because it's a bioplastic and their certification isn't evidence it will biodegrade. The EN13432 standard only shows it is suitable for industrial composting, which is very different to sitting in the grass on a hillside... Bioplastics are still plastics, and it's quite misleading the way Hull present the product imo

I will say, in the US, the hunting market seemed to die down a bit for a while. I think more people got interested in hunting again after COVID hit but it didn't really seem as popular as when I was a kid before. I grew up deer and squirrel hunting and still do to this day and I do hope to see more people get interested in hunting again. Especially because, when COVID hit, people went out and bought guns like crazy due to lockdowns preventing police response in some areas, so a lot of larger manufacturers that supply the US market focused on the bare bottom in ammo quality and it was difficult to find certain rifle cartridges. Instead of making 30-30, they were using the bullets to make other calibers. My dad deer hunts with a .260 Caliber rifle and, because they use the same bullet in 6.5 Creedmoor, he couldn't find any quality ammo for his deer rifle. Very good video and I like seeing manufacturers still care about quality because, when shortages with COVID hit, a lot of the mainstream manufacturers here cut corners to try and produce more volume. I have a Winchester 9mm round sitting on my desk that the primer was put in the round sideways and is definitely not safe to fire. Frankly, with how the primer is crumpled up sideways, I don't know how it didn't cause an accident in the manufacturing process. So definitely love seeing companies still caring about quality. I don't know if Hull Cartridge company ships or supplies any of the US market but if they are caring about quality, I'm sure someone in the US is caring about quality too.
@parrisgeorge9708
@parrisgeorge9708 Жыл бұрын
You bring up some good points about ammunition being hard to find over the last few years. One of the bigger issues outside of timing with Covid is the problems that Remington experienced. The timing for that manufacturer was that the holding company that owned and ran both the firearms as well as ammunition factories was essentially robbing Peter to pay Paul. Ammunition was profitable and brought in much needed operating capital. That money instead of going to maintain the ammunition plant and pay suppliers went into the firearm end of things. Toward the end several suppliers essentially put the ammunition plant on a pre pay basis. Once the company was broken up and the ammunition plant was bought the new owners had a big job so that they could bring the plant back on line producing ammunition. Combine that with greater demand from shooters, LEO, and military for all the ammunition factories and we have a perfect storm leading to shortages.
@DeckDogs4Life
@DeckDogs4Life Жыл бұрын
@Parris George and that perfect storm unfortunately lead to some manufacturers forgetting about quality a bit to focus on producing higher volume. They figured who cares if this ammo isn't as accurate as usual? We just need to produce ammo and that's never a good thing.

I have used Hull loads for years, they are good. However, despite what was said in the video I believe they have changed the specification of the case, which they use for their X Comp loads. I have shot thousands of these loads in 21g and 28g. over several years in my Longthorne sidelock. However, about a year ago after buying a new batch the cartridges kept slipping past the ejector irons on both barrels, which meant I had to use a cleaning rod to push them out. I now use Hull Sorting 100's which work well. without any problems. Any comments Johnny ??

Goes without saying in any business i think. If you do your homework you will find out that shot shells ammunition or any civilian ammunition is actually very safe compared to other manufactured products we use in daily life, sans a PHEV motor vehicle or a lap-top computer etc,etc. It is class 1 which puts it at the top of the list but Class 1 is a very diverse group of dangerous goods. You go have a look.
