Dan spivey is one of the greatest. He's a real good person. I asked him to speak to some inner-city youth kids and he jumped at the opportunity. The funny part is of all the people that we had speak to those kids that week they paid attention to him more than anyone else. We love you Dan!!!

When it comes to Spivey, the stories are vicious. This dude was no joke, a straight-up killer in the ring and out. His voice was gruff, his demeanor was intimidating, and he was not to be messed with. Spivey was the kind of wrestler who commanded respect, the kind of dude who made other wrestlers think twice before crossing him. He saw Adonis, who was dead at this point. A log had rolled out of the fireplace and would have set the house on fire. Piper said Adonis spoke to him. I disagree. Dan Spivey weighed almost 300 lbs and was 6 inches taller than Adrian Adonis. Plus other wrestlers have said Dan Spivey was a legit tough guy out of FLORIDA area that was known for tough men. He wasnt sucker punched as Adrian Adonis tried to leg dive Spivey in the locker room. He hit him so hard be busted his cheek and upper lip wide open exposing his cheek bone. Several wrestlers talk about Adrian was told not to go after Spivey and he did it anyway. Being 150 lbs heavier has nothing to do with being tougher or more to handle. UFC is perfect example of that. Guys who were huge lost pretty quickly because of speed and physical agility comboned with speed.

@@markmullins5822 are you being serious? I can't tell if you're joking. Technique beats size and strength 9 times out of 10, even more so if the size and strength in question was like Adonis, who was just a bully and not an actual fighter like Spivey was. Adonis had been warned by many "tough" guys to not go after Spivey because Spivey would wreck him. And he did.
@markprescott6477
@markprescott6477 6 жыл бұрын
@@PlayboyofWrestling I respectfully disagree. These guys could fight 10 times and Dan Spivey would probably win 9 times because Spivey had a legit fighting / boxing background and Adonis didn't. Technique / ability goes a long way in overcoming size and strength. And it's not like Dan was that much smaller. Dan made psycho Sid look smaller, except that Dan had the everyman's physique and not the huge muscles.

I remember Spivey replacing Barry Wyndham as Mike Rotundo's tag-team partner, but I don't remember anything else until the Skyscrapers in the NWA.

@@johnm3907 Adrian entire check bone was exposed after the first hit. Each contact made in the locker room sounded like a watermelon exploding according to the numerous witnesses. Or you may want Dan to hit you in the face once and see how many stitches it takes. When stitching areas like the face they typically use 3 times as many stitches to help with scaring.

He was brought in to replace Barry Wyndham.... Adonis was way more talented than Spivey. And for the story of how he beat up on him so bad....Adonis wrestled Hogan 3 nights later. Good ol' boy stories....

If you watch this clip, kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5uwfoGkjqaUqLc at 1:39:00 Watch Jessie Ventura mention Spivey's "Locker Room Reputation". Definitely off script, wonder if Ventura had hard feelings being that Adrian was his former partner.

Interesting thing is after this Spivey got more of a push than Adonis ..Spivey got a push as Windhams replacement with Rotundo which flopped...how you think we not gonna notice a difference Vince . . And I don't think Adrian ever got that run with Hogan

I know this is 4yrs late but I never understood why Dan never got the push. I know there were a ton of talented wrestlers in his time, much more talented than today's wrestlers but the push for muscles during his time must have held him back. Enjoyed the interview thanks. I understand why he was dq'd, he had the ability to flip the script and beat virtually anyone in that locker room down. Yes there were exceptions but they were few.

@@TheHannibalTV I remember that too. IMO when WCW and wwf were battling that was wrestlings best Era. Been watching wrestling from the days of watching Ernie Ladd play football on Sunday and become the big cat in the ring. When Freddie Blaise would spit out 8-12 teeth a night. Lol.
