As a kid I loved Brutus the Barber Beefcake. As an adult I have heard all the stories of him riding Hogan's coattails his whole career and thought I was dumb as a kid to like him. To hear that their relationship goes back to when he was just a scrawny kid, that all the other kids picked on, causing him to turn to Hogan for acceptance and a little protection makes me realize I was right as a kid to like and wrong as an adult to judge him without knowing the whole story. This interview shows me he is a nice person with almost a sadness about him that he doesn't deserve.

Hilarious! He continues by saying Ric Flair should be bringing everybody up instead of putting others down to make himself look good. He goes on saying how it is so wrong to put others down just to make yourself look good. He says this after he went on a jealous rant thrashing the Ultimate Warrior, discrediting him, and ridiculously saying he was a bigger star than the Warrior. LMFAO!

No doubt Beefcake was over in the late 80s/early 90s. However, he was not even close to being as over as the Ultimate Warrior. Plus, Beefcake rode Hogan's coattails.

+Andrew Hippert Well...it depended who they faced. If it was The Bulldogs or The Killer Bees, no, they were not cheered. If it was The Sheik & Volkoff or say Lanny Poffo & Tony Garea, yeah, they were cheered a fair bit. I first became a wrestling fan in early 1986. The Dream Team had a very flashy look and they were the best choice the WWF had as their "Rock & Wrestling" MTV era tag champs. Check out the "Land of 1000 Dances" music video when they were the tag champs & you can see that their look makes them stand out.

True Hall of Fame wrestler and person...now I love DDP, but I wish Eddie had a similar "against all odds" storyline vs the NWO first in his Butcher gimmick and later in his Disciple look breaking away from the NWO and beating Hogan at least once in his otherwise entertaining career. To me, without his wrestling attire and flamboyance , there would not be the Rockers and later HBK

Used to love this guys in-ring character when I was a kid but (intellectually speaking) I'm convinced Beefcake is possibly the biggest meathead-moron I've ever heard interviewed. At around 1:00:20 (in response to Flair's disparaging comments that Hogan made Beefcake) Beefcakes saying that you should try to elevate all wrestlers around you rather than trying make a better rep for yourself by burying other wrestlers with negative comments. A fine philosophy one might think, except that approximately just FOUR minutes prior to this Beefcake was burying the Ultimate Warrior, saying he couldn't work, would blow up in the ring, couldn't cut a coherent promo, and couldn't get over with the fans and that and that Vince McMahon basically just gave the guy an undeserved pushed to the top 56:30. It's disappointing when you finally get to see the man behind the character.

@wezdeedaydot7 жыл бұрын
u did earn and deserved your spot by sweating blood, u took a gimmick that would end the career of 90% of wrestlers and built a huge character and drew money....all being said Rick was right....many wrestlers had huge skill, great workers, talkers and potential for persona development but politics had them looked over. U and three other equally skilled tallent, also sweated blood n paid there dues didnt have an advocate like hulk. He suggests ten times "brutus will fit there....Brutus can interfere there". Other workers would get one chance to make a homerun or its over for them unless mid card match may catch the crowd n build momentum organically. Brutus had his name pitched for ten existing angles until vince realised my top star isnt gonna shut up until i give his friend a shot n Brutus mess's it up!!!! The gimmick to end Hulks pushing n Brutus will have got his shot n it failed n vince can then say "sorry Hulk, Brutus, we gave it a shot n it hasnt worked out but give me your number Brutus n when the crowd forget, we'll call u!". LMFAO P.S. "U MADE BULLDOGS?" fuck no, wrestling skill was 20 times your ability (greg was a better wrestler than u) ok they wasnt good on the stick but people accepted that with them being English, Dynamite was a pioneer in cruiser-weight division. The tag belts didnt die after they won them from u, your angle died, that means so did your relavence then your paycheck went. They entered a programme with the hearts which led to a great back and forth angle/programme which gave the title substance/credence/value and prestige to a level never seen before with the fast paced, highly technical, high flying and acrobatic yet stiff style tag champs never really was. Japanese strong style was similar, it looked believable coz a lot of the shots were stiff "potatoes" lol. Greg was the name and u brutus was the new mold of body built archetype vince saw for the future. U slagged warrior off for his in ring skill, u was no Ricky the dragon steamboat! Warrior put more into his entrance then u did your whole match, which as a child, he ran down that isle, around that ring, climbed the steps, shook those ropes n burst through my T.V.....ending with me putting on one of my sisters hair pieces n running round my house pumping my arms up n down. at 8yr old i never noticed he had 4 moves n could hardly do them but i didnt n dont care, warrior was a force of energy, Bulldogs was a force of stregnth, flair was a force of arrogance n Brutus was a force of camp barber with a rainbow colored outfits??? Dont say u made people u didnt while disgarding the FACT Hulk made u!!!! SORRY THIS SHIT WAS SO LONG

Beefcake is incredibly full of shit and delusional. But he's right about one thing Warrior couldn't work. That's why Warrior didn't draw as champion and Hulk Hogan did. Hogan could work....and what that REALLY means is he can tell an entertaining story between bells in the ring, which a wrestler NEEDS to be able to do. Warrior could not do that to save his life.
@tonyc73013 жыл бұрын
Good interview but the crap about Beefcock and Valentine schooling the Bulldogs is the most ludicrous shit I have ever heard. Davey and Dynamite were two of the top 10 wrestlers in the world at the time, with Dynamite possibly being number one. And yes, as far as their ages they were young, but the Bulldogs already had 8 to 10 years of ring experience each by the time they locked up with the Dream Team. Also, the Bulldogs were ridiculously popular and the title change made sense. Brutus has said some stupid crap in the past but this is the craziest.
