I remember this game like it was yesterday....Dad and I were watching it in the living room and were kind disappointed Iowa was about to lose and then...BAM! We started jumping around, dog barking at us screaming "HOLY SH!T!!!!" then I ran outside swinging my Iowa jersey around screaming "TD IOWA, TD IOWA!!!".

My son and I have a tradition of running outside and spiking a football after every iowa touch down and it's so much fun watching my boy be so proud of his iowa team,we live in a prodomately Cornsuckers fan base only 1 hour from stadium in Lincoln we have been doing alot of spiking footballs outside these last years our neighbors are mostly neb fans so it's great especially when we've spanked the suckers as of late!Go hawks!

There's no way it wasn't intentional. Everyone was expecting typical, conservative and reliable Ferentz-ball. Get down field enough with some first downs and timeouts in order for a long field goal. Everyone was expecting a timeout on 2nd and short on the Iowa 44, most importantly LSU. It created enough confusion to wreak havoc on LSU's prevent attack. Let's not forget: there was only 14 seconds left and over 20 yards to go for any real chance at a field goal.

This game was a rollercoaster, Iowa came out hot, then got jerked around a bit, and finally fell behind. When it got to the end of the game, I remember sitting there and thinking, "wtf are these idiots doing wasting all this clock" then the ball snapped and I was like, "he’s running free, hopefully he sees him" and finally jumping up on my seat and banging on the glass between the coaches booth and the stands as Norm Parker giggled and the other coaches celebrated. Tiger bait my ass.

Grew up watching Drew Tate play at Baytown Lee; he was a marvel of a quarterback. He used to do these throws every week - hence why we was highly recruited and Texas Gatorade Player of the year in 2002 (Might be 2001). It sucks that he didn't stick in the NFL, he would have done work in this day and age of NFL. He did some great things in the CFL though.

The 2021 season is about to begin. In some ways it's unfortunate I still have to use this game to get me fired up. But I remember it like it happened yesterday, right down to having thrown a set of keys just as Tate was throwing his pass, I was so upset at how badly we mismanaged the clock. And even when Tate went into the end zone, my eyes were having a hard time accepting we had just done that.

My dad and I were watching this game, huddled around my grandparent's TV, he was stressing so hard. He was certain we were throwing the game away, and I said, "It's okay dad, Tate could throw a bomb downfield, it could be caught, run into the endzone, it's not over yet, it's not over yet." He wouldn't hear any of it. To this day I give him shit about not believing me, I had faith that day.

True...I guess it just looks like Hinkel got away with a push from the first camera angle...but when you look at the other angles, especially toward the end of the clip, it looks like Hinkel had a hand on the shirt, but like you said, he didn't have a hold of the defensive guy. Don't get me wrong--I'm a huge Iowa fan, and glad that the play turned out the way it did. :)

i never understood why they wound the clock. was it not an incomplete pass /spike that stopped the clock?
@buckrog648 жыл бұрын
+Matt Albrecht Here's my general understanding of the rule....The ball was not blown 'ready for play' prior to the spike and the clock was properly running because the previous play did not result in a first down or any other reason to stop the clock. Iowa committed a penalty while the clock was running for not being set, therefore the spike never legally occurred meaning that play never happened and the clock was stopped for a non legal purpose. Generally the clock cannot be stopped for an illegal purpose. Therefore I believe the clock was properly started on the ready for play following the assessment for the penalty. I am a high school official and there are many differences between high school, college and pro, but I believe I'm on the right track there. In high school, I would have said something to either the coach and/or both the offense and defense about when the clock would start. I could say, 'the clock will start on the ready for play...' which makes perfect sense, but the kids wouldn't normally understand what it means. In college, probably not. Coaches should know that rule, so should announcers for that matter. Hope this helps.
