Hi Hazina! It's good to know that you had a great time at Akamonkai :) I'm interested in learing Japanese there as well, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford it. I want to study until the end (two years), but I don't know if working 28 hours a week will be enough to cover all of my expenses (course cost, apartment rent, food, transportation, etc.). I already know a little Japanese (I took classes and finished the two Minna no Nihongo books), but I'm not sure if that will be enough to get a job right away either. I don't overspend, but do you think I'll be able to afford it working 28 hours a week? Or maybe I should wait and save up. Thanks for your video it answered some doubts I had :D
@TheHazinaGirl7 жыл бұрын
ivesaaron ivesaaron Thanks for your awesome question! I worried about the same thing before coming here and I was luckily enough to have some monetary support from my parents at first but my first couple months were really tough cause I hadn't saved up that much money and I was still trying to get used to my new life so I wasn't really looking for a job. I highly suggest that you save up enough money for your first 3 or 6 months (preferably 1,000$ a month or so depending on your spending habits) and then once you've settled to your new life in Japan you can decide if you want to start looking for a job without worrying about paying bills and stuff. I think it's definitely possible to make enough money to pay for rent & bills if you get a high paying job (i.e. part time English teaching which is a great job cause you don't need Japanese) and if you look for an apartment that has really cheap rent too that helps. Hope that answered your question! ^_^

Thank you so much for the very informative video, Hazina! I'm looking for a good language school in Tokyo as well, and Akamonkai seems suitable for me. However, I have a couple of questions.. 1. I'm looking for a course with a good focus on conversational practices. However, with the large student body at Akamonkai, did you get many chances to speak in the classroom? 2. I'm wondering about the yardsticks of the class. May I ask how do you feel after the program? Do you understand Japanese and communicate on the daily life better? 3. You mentioned about Minna no Nihongo books.. I already finished the book 1 so far and I'm wondering if I should study the most basic level. Will the basic level teach book 2 as well? Hope you could help me. Thank you very much in advance!
@TheHazinaGirl8 жыл бұрын
1. Most classes have a maximum of 20 people and there is some conversation practice in the book that we use to practice but they focus more on real life conversation practice once you entered the beginner intermediate class. 2. I'm no sure what exactly you mean by yardsticks... however I do definitely feel like my Japanese has improved thanks to my class. Especially my kanji! The one on thing I wish we did more often was reading essays because I want to improve my speed but that's just a personal goal of mine. 3. The first beginner class uses the first books of minna no nihongo and the second beginner class uses the second book. If you finish and master both books then you'll probably get a good score on the placement test you'll probably be eligible for the Beginner/Intermediate or Intermediate 1 class! Hope that helped! If you wanna ask me more questions don't hesitate to send me an email (linked in the description) Good luck! :)

I have a question regarding going to Language school. It's something I want to do. I've already been to Japan 6 times so I want to actually start furthering my language skills. I want to do a short term like 3 months before committing to a long term program (6-1year). But my question is with all the classwork, and homework do you still have time after class to possibly start up a part time job or is it like super nolife where It would just be wakeup->go to class->work->eat->homework->sleep. I want to be able to work part time, and attend language class but also have SOME free time.
@TheHazinaGirl7 жыл бұрын
Lol 😂 First off your comment is hilarious and secondly, I have to say that I highly suggest going for 3 months before committing for a longer time cause that's exactly what I did! & as for the homework, at first you do get a lot but the longer you keep studying there the less homework you get, so I think it's totally possible to juggle a part time job at the same time as long as your first job is flexible schedule-wise and allows you to work just a couple days a week to start off! P.S. If you come for just 3 months you won't be allowed to work so keep that in mind!

You may have answered this before so I’m sorry I’m advance! I’ve been on the hunt for a good language school that’s also affordable! There are two schools I like so far and one of them is Akamonkai! You speak highly of Akamonkai but outside of class do you find yourself falling back on English? Especially in a place like Tokyo! I want to be immersed but I want to have the advantages of Tokyo. I’m definitely not a beginner in Japanese but I do need more work and lots of practice! Do you think I could get away with just Japanese in Tokyo? Thanks for reading!
@TheHazinaGirl6 жыл бұрын
That's a really good question! When I first came to Japan it was definitely easier for me to make english speaking friends and I didn't use Japanese outside of class that much but that's mostly just cause I was too shy. However I eventually got a part time job that allowed me to speak Japanese more often and I made some Japanese friends too. So I think getting a job is an excellent way to push your Japanese skills and speak as often as possible when you come here!

Good question! I actually really liked the combination of the school being high intensity for such a low price! Another thing I liked were the various dorm options because I knew I wanted to live close to the school no matter what and I knew that dorms were my best option for that. I also did some research about the neighbourhood of the school and the dorms. Everything seemed to be really close by and the neighbourhood seemed to be really safe too! I think it's a great place to go especially for people coming to japan for the first time! :)

Hi, I'm thinking about going to Akamonkai, but I'm not sure to which school attend actually. I already passed the N1 some years ago, but I would need a clas with N2/N1 level, because my grade wasn't very high. What do you think about levels? I've been recommended Akamonkai because is almost the only one that has higher levels, I was checking ISI too. Which books do they use?

This video was very very helpful, thank you very much. I'm debating if i want to go to university or language school into college. I really like the aspesct of social life in university, with the clubs, festivals, and other activities that happen during and after school. Do you get any similar experiences like that in language school, or is it just one of those things people go to and then go home and do their own business afterwards? thanks.
@TheHazinaGirl8 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the question! I actually sent you a more in depth response by email but to sum it up, Japanese school doesn't really have after school clubs like colleges/universities do but they have a lot of events and class trip that they offer on a semesterly and/or monthly basis. On top of that people do make an effort to hang out with each other outside of school. Of course it depends in the person but most people who have free time will stay and hang out with each other after school! I personally think that if you're interested in meeting new people and hanging out while practicing your Japanese, both college and Japanese school will give you that opportunity so it really depends on what you're interested in! :)

Yeah you can definitely receive mail at the dorms! As for rent, you only have to pay for the first 3 months all at once, then after that you just have to pay once a month and it's always one month ahead of time so you should be fine! You won't need a letter or anything! 😄

She'll most likely help you apply and prepare a little bit in advance too! Awesome video! I have one concern though: Would you happen to know how difficult it is to get admitted with a student visa? It makes me a little nervous in my emailing with them that there's a selection process and that not everyone who meets the requirements is admitted. I don't want to sell out on going there only to not make the cut and miss my chances of getting to the country when I want to.
@TheHazinaGirl7 жыл бұрын
For student visas there's obviously going to be some kind of screening process but I'm pretty sure the requirements aren't that out of the ordinary. If you don't have a criminal record and you're from a country that is eligible to receive Japanese student visas then there shouldn't be a reason for them to not give you a visa. If you've chosen a school that can apply on your behalf (like Akamonkai) then the chances of you getting a accepted for the visa is pretty high. I wouldn't be too concerned about that unless you think there's something in particular that would prevent you from getting the visa and if that's the case then you could maybe try contacting the Japanese embassy nearest to you and asking them directly weather they think you would be legible or not. Hope that answers your question :)

Hi my biggest fear about Akamonkai is that they don't let you have a part-time job? even if they have on their site "help offered in finding part-time job" so I'm a bit confused. Is it really true that you can't manage to get approval from the school to get a part-time?? Or is the intensity of the school to hard to keep up,if you are also working a part-time job??
@TheHazinaGirl7 жыл бұрын
Akamonkai is totally fine with you working a part time job as long as you have the appropriate visa. If you only have a 3 month tourist visa then legally you can't work but if you get a student visa then you'll be allowed to work for a maximum of 28 hours a week and you'll be able to get assistance from the school to find a job as well! :) I personally waited a couple months before getting a part time job just so that I could get used to the school's work flow first. Then once I got my first part-time job in Japan it was kind of tough to balance work and school at first but I eventually found a job that worked for me and now I have a great schedule that allows me to do both. So I would definitely say that it depends on how you schedule your time and it also depends on what kinda of part-time job you want to do as well. Hope that helped! :)

It really helped,thank you very much! Save up money on your own, do lots of research etc. They will eventually realise that this is something that you care about and that you're very serious about it too! Even though they might be scared for you at first they'll eventually come around and become supportive because they'll know that once you move to Japan you'll be living somewhere that makes you happy!
