I just did my 2002 jaguar X type 22 years of ultraviolet damage, 1,000 automated car washes, stone chips, grit, road salt, road spray and grime and some occasional dump truck aggregate blow off. I needed to start off with 220 grit and work my way all the way to 3000 wet sand. Finished it off with Maguires plastic polish.When it was done, it looked almost brand new. These headlights with the fog lights six individual lamp lenses Hass to be the most difficult Restoration I could imagine.

When I owned Triumph TR-6's & TR-250 I discovered Meguiars Plastic Cleaner and polish. It was the only way to clarify an old rusty looking rear convertible plastic window. You could take one that was no longer even transparent and make it look fairly clear.

congratulations, excellent work, incredible results, people would think that it is easier to buy new lights, I have a question what is the difference between the p500 and 500 sandpaper (without the p)
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 7 ай бұрын
The p is just a European scale of sandpaper it's much much finer quality and better granuates... In basic terms it's more of ballet versus football... So much that the discs actually don't equal each other you have to look up a conversion chart a 500 is equivalency is a much different disc than a p500.... This is why you will definitely see a price difference in each one harder to make the European style disc...

Simple polish of headlight with the same Maguire's polish used in this video.... Then went over it with the chemical guys....it just had a bit of build on it... Hazy with a couple little white spots but it was all surface just from the neglect... So I was able to bring it back with just polishing...

So you don’t use water when sanding the lens??? I have never done them dry. So 800 dry and 3000 wet. Hummm I usually do 1200 wet, 1500 wet and 2000 wet. 3000?? I just got 3000 I usually use rubbing compound to get it clear, then polish it last

After watching so many of your great videos and doing about 5 practice repairs on my own car, and a few on some junkyard lights I ordered on ebay, I'm a little confused as to how you know, for instance that this particular light didn't have any clear coat left. Is it the way the light feels to the touch? Or do you sand a little spot first (to test to see if the powder is yellow)?

Hey man, great video! Was wondering though, do you not use a cleaner/degreaser before you clearcoat the headlight? I would’ve thought that degreasing after using polishing compound would be necessary in order to have a clean surface for the clearcoat.

I used the mcguires headlight spray for the first time today. It left some tiny little pieces of what looked like hardened coating all over the lens. It wasn't an orange peel effect. Any ideas on what I could have done wrong?
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 7 ай бұрын
You must have done a lot of wrong... First and foremost you must not have followed the steps that I have shown on here over 130 times.... 130 flawless times.... I've never experienced this so I have no idea what possibly caused this or what you actually did.. you just need to watch the videos and ask yourself did you truly do exactly what I did especially on that step... Cuz it doesn't sound like it and honestly it could possibly be if that's the result you got.... Did you double coat did you spray too slow did you spray too much did you spray too far away to spray too close did you do all the other steps that I do beforehand to make sure your area was clean and sterilized did you do the exact thing that I do on every single video because if you did deer lights would have came out like mine.....👍🏽

@jeffhannon1015 you'll figure it out.. I was just watch a couple of videos at the point of where I spray and really taking notes., make sure the can is warm enough and shake up thoroughly and that your spray nozzles lined up with the Red Dot. Spray five to seven inches away only one coat ever,....

I'd say it's about equal they both have about the same rating in my opinion they're both lacking just a little bit on one thing or other but definitely well over the threshold to be good enough to use... You have one that is lacking just a little tiny bit of oil content.. maybe you have one that is really loose and could be sicker...
@ShoeHefner757

@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 6 ай бұрын
@ShoeHefner757 fear comes from not knowing which translate into inexperience which translates into haven't done enough practice... I'm not confident in doing it because I've done so many but because I've done so much practice.... Well maybe both but at first it was the practice that made me comfortable with doing this ... Practicing on non-paying customers and also personal vehicles and junkyard headlights that I've actually got for the junkyard or Facebook marketplace.. I probably sprayed two to three dozen lights like this before I had to paying customer...

Thats the polish i use alot, but be ware, it will make a big mess if you use too much. It is super thin.

Yes it's very loose watery but when you use the right amount it works very well sometimes if I have too much on I just pull away and spin it independently knocks it all off...

Appreciated.. a lot of talking is what education is some people have comprehension issues and or learning issues when a teacher teaches you which makes it painstaking but not to their liking...Anybody who teaches anything is 99% a lot of talking.. especially since you and whoever's watching doesn't know what I am teaching..lol Education goes hand in hand with talking.. Once again I appreciate you watching..😀😀😀
