How to GET A CDL if you don't have a truck to practice with!

I was fortunate that the company I work for had me driving a water truck on a construction site so the truck was provided but I didn't go to a truck driving school to learn the rest. I went to the DMV, picked up the CDL book and studied virtually every night after work for 6 months and watched videos from yourself and others. Thanks for the help, stay safe! The truck my company had me driving wasn't even close to serviceable for a road test (realistically it shouldn't be on the road at all) but I was able to rent a truck to test in from the driving school that I took my test at ( US Truck Driving School, many locations around the country.) Additionally, here in Colorado a person can take their driving test the day after they get their CLP and all of the driving tests are administered by 3rd party testers, most of whom will rent the driver a truck for the test. Just FYI about Colorado regulations, hope it's helpful info for someone.

In Illinois you don’t need a certain amount of hours of practice with your CLP you just can’t test for your CDL until 15 days after you were issued your CLP……… So you might as well practice during that time so that way you don’t fail your test for your CDL …… however your CLP does expire after six months so you would want to take your test before six months

I’m in Maryland I didn’t need a certain amount of hours but you do have to wait at least 30 from the day your permit is issued before you can schedule your road test because your permit is only valid for 6 months

Useful not really. Other videos of his yes but this one not really. Calling any of these places and you will find some door that require some hurdle or need something. There is no direct route to trucking and it is not in stone even when you do finish school assuming you have 8k for school only to teach yourself on a non existent rig and in the book and if your not good enough due to no seat time because who do you know who owns a rig the schools don’t give much even though that’s the main issue no experience not learning out of the book for a written test. This really needs to be fixed especially for the price they charge.

Ok I'm studying for Class A now in Texas with no truck. Use stimulus check or barter your driving skills. I ask lots of people for driver training work. I got 2 people. They train me in their Dudley truck n trailer and I will work part time for them taking loads. For now I can only take loads within my Class B weight limit until I pass the combination test. You can start with any school district to train you just to get the class B. Or go to a place any place with school buses to get some training. You have a whole entire 90Days to take actual driving test after you pass your last test. Once I can afford to rent the 18wheeler I will. By that time I wont be so nervous in the 18wheeler! Yes I understand it will be a restriction on my DL. Good luck ya'll 🖤

In Austin there is Austin CDL Services who rents a truck to take the test for $700. You can also practice in their trucks for 14 hours for about $2500. This is what I'm planning on doing.

Check out 3rd party’s for Cdl driving test rentals.. Here in Hidalgo county, deep in the south of Texas, we have 3rd party truck rentals… But again it’ll be best to have some kind of driving experience with trucks… Best key is know your truck 1st…

I think they ment a truck to practice on even if you attend a school.Especially for the backing skills after school and on weekends when the school is closed. I suggest renting a U Haul with an enclosed Trailer and "go at it" in an empty Walmart Parking lot.

Here in Indiana, the State licensed independent company that administers cdl tests will rent a truck to you on site to take the road test in, but that will probably be the first time I've ever sat behind the wheel of a big rig, so I'm just gonna watch a bunch of youtube videos and then just go for it. I've driven stick all my life, and I can back up a utility trailer. Also gonna call ahead and ask what make and model it is, so I can look up some specs on it.

I original wanted to go to hcc to get mines but, it would take 6 months only problem with that I have a class B and my job hours are crazy so finding hours for school is difficult. People told me I can find someone who teaches for a quick way. I looked only at one place so far it cost 2000$

No disrespect, but I'm not sure the title of this video accurately describes the content you're providing. One might expect to see various methods of obtaining a loaner truck to take your exam. If I didn't have one, I might get my permit and ask a local trucking company to let me drive with one of their drivers for practice, then go along with me to the exam. In return, I would agree to work for them after obtaining my CDL. I personally would give them a check to hold and cash if I got my CDL and decided to not work for them. It might be less expensive than paying a couple of grand and taking time off work to go to trucking school.

I may be wrong….but as of 2/7/2022, you have to go to an “accredited trucking school”. When this video was created, you could only “get your CDL without having a truck to practice with”….by: studying the pre trip process AND being able to study KZbin video demonstration of people performing the 3 backing maneuvers + you being able to do the same(with no physical practice) = close to impossible.

@@MrSip4life if it's class A and you possess doubles and triples: UPS will hire you on the spot cause that's all I ever saw when I was on the road through them. generally once you got a hard card, any experience driving is helpful (1 to 2 years is preferred) other options: look and see if any construction companies near your area need a class A side-dump driver. I know they're hiring like mad cats where I'm at. only problem is pay grade varies a lot

As a hotshot your CMV can be a cut-away van, medium-duty box truck, a smaller F-250 or equivalent truck to a larger F-450/550 Super Duty or equivalent for towing, Remembering the regulations, if the GVWR of your truck, trailer, and cargo is greater than 26,000 lbs, then you need a CDL.

The only alternative solution, If your state allows it, is to rent or get someone with a cdl and/or truck and practice, with him being the passenger. Then have him drive with you to the test with the rental or his truck. Gd luck

Great job, people who trying to get CDL without attending school best thing is get the book from dps office my brother talked about and download this app "CDL PREP" it's red and white icon each correct answer have details very helpful to pass the test but please don't memorize the answer understand the logic for road test without truck watch KZbin videos just like you are taking online class and feel like you're sitting on driver seat once you get all the knowledge then check outside of your local dps office most of them have rental trucks talk to them they charge few hundred dollars and teach you parking and road test at that time KZbin videos will help you to catch quick because you have the basic knowledge

What was the point of this video , if all you were going to say is “ idk how your going to figure it out , without a truck to practice on “ . Like what did you make this video for besides telling us what’s going to be on the test , the book , and your other video that you already explained how to get your cdl .
