The Italian Fisogni Museum preserves the biggest collection in the world of gas pumps, from 1890s to 2000s

Interesting but not going to fly 2000 miles just to see gas pumps. Detroit is closer. And cheaper (just drive my car). Oh and if I flew to Italy, I’d want to see unique stuff like the Roman coliseum & Sistine chapel… stuff I cannot find at home :-)

This was before people would steal gasoline. I remember paying for gas after filling it up. I also remember full service. It would be an extra 5 cents a gallon for full service. They would check your fluids, air up tires and wash windows. Topping off oil or other fluids would be extra. They might recommend mechanical services too. A good way to make money when gas stations had mechanic shops attached to the place with cash register and things to buy.

What is the electric grid of the nation goes down? Is there a way that manual pumps can be used? I know this is an elementary question but I still want to know - can pumps be manual?

No, it would be decades before self service pumps appeared. At the time a clerk woulp pump your gas, wipe your windows and check your tires while refuelling
