Great interview with a very interesting man who has had a very interesting life , but his life even from young is not working class so he really doesn't have a clue what the majority of us go through . I will give my manager a good insite on how some thing could improve, and am told just put the veg or meat on the shelf and work faster . Sadly, my business had a number of dealings with a variety of virgin companies and they were the biggest bunch of mean, money grabbing people I had the misfortune to deal with. The hype is bull, many of the virgin businesses failed leaving creditors out of pocket as they stretched the brand to its limits. So, some very creative accountants built overvalued business on a brand built on his wholesome image.

I am saddened by some of the comments to this interview, not because I directly disagree with people, but because there is so much unhappiness and frustration due to wealth inequality. I believe Richard knows he is detached from ordinary people through his wealth, but if you really listen to him, he is telling us all that it is possible to take and manage risk to achieve greater control in your life. I have been entrepreneurial most of my adult life….with mixed success……including some bad outcomes……it’s not an easy path to take but I still work to crest businesses and build employment opportunities for others. I recognise, of course, why many capable people will never be entrepreneurs. As I have aged I would now say that knowing what is least uncomfortable for yourself as your existence is probably more important than a certainty of success or wealth.

Can't beat a flight from LHR-JFK, JFK-LHR with Virgin Atlantic. 14th February 2020, there was a buzz on board from the cabin crew, when I mentioned Virgin had just kicked BA's arse getting back from JFK to LHR in a record time. “It’s true that we were narrowly beaten by a BA Boeing 747, however they had twice the amount of engines and burnt twice as much fuel as Captain Chris in our brand-new, fuel efficient Airbus A350-1000,” Virgin said. Like other commenters have said-he needs to give context to the money don’t matter thing IE the arc of one’s life timing and environment etc. What he also means is money doesn’t matter as much when your scaling at industrial levels as the other factors are so many-at that level you can often go to market and get ‘other peoples money’ to scale. So the thing that becomes important then is people staff contacts infrastructure etc etc etc. Then on a personal level he’ll because of corporation tax law etc if he looses a billion or makes a billion he’ll be protected in some and or enough ways and a billion more also means at the other end his personal life doesn’t change much in a day to day basis etc. I do admire him but I do prefer when guys at that level don’t do what I interpret as a lazy almost virtue signalling way to where they’ve ended up on the ‘money’ issue. Finally…moneys not important but yet he needed loans to stay afloat…ask him if ‘that’ money was important you might get…..yep…..an honest non lazy answer lol

Ok, just for the sake of good logic and rhetoric, let’s admit to the conversation that Branson’s wealth and his claimed disinterest in making money could have a different relationship than what's being assumed in the comments. It's at least logically possible that his focus on creating things and starting businesses had a causal relationship to his eventual wealth. We're looking at RB in his current financial status and drawing the conclusion that his wealth must be why he claims not to care about money. But rewind 40 years, and it’s possible a less-than-wealthy Branson contributed to his own success because of a different psychological relationship to money. Two logical fallacies are at work here: circumstantial ad hominem and begging the question. The circumstantial ad hominem dismisses Branson’s perspective simply because of his circumstances (his wealth), which doesn’t logically disqualify him. Begging the question assumes the truth of the claim without any proof-arguing that his wealth must be the reason for his statement, without actually demonstrating that link.

Pay very strict attention: this is the reason that Virgin Trains were the most loved and the most successful of private railway companies in the UK. Why anything that the Virgin Group turn their attention to they receive good reviews because they actually care. Those staff who worked on the West Coast mainline both at the stations and on the Virgin trains and who now work for Avanti will tell you why Virgin were much better because they cared.
