Our founding fathers well understood that free speech would allow for some "misinformation" to get out. But they understood that it was a reasonable trade-off. Just like the rights of a criminal defendant (in the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments) will allow some criminals to get away with it. Many college "educated" journalists rail at free speech largely because they don't acknowledge how many "untrained" people can do the same work...often better. Consider how many journalists/fact checkers got so many things wrong largely because they didn't do the work...ie often just using AP wire and twitter feeds to simply repeat what was already repeated. No training required.

Getting rid of the "fact checking organizations" doesn't mean there will be no fact checking. Facebook will be using a version of community notes (from X). If the professional fact checkers think they are so good, they can try entering things in the community notes (they will, of course, not be paid for doing so). Community notes is transparent and requires links to sources that provide context or other information, not just the opinion of the writer "checking."
