In north Karnataka they are called 'Helavaru'. First time when I listened my family tree, I was shocked to listen to around 8 centuries of information stored in their books in their own language which is passed on from generations. They come once in a year to see any new additions are there. When my daughter and son were born they registered. They demand some small price called 'dakshina'. That's it.Awesome culture

I actually found my ancestral records that went back 500+ in Haridwar some years ago ! Including hand written notes made by my ancestors when ever they visited for pilgrimage or when someone passed away . It was just incredible and so humbling . I pay my respects to the Pandits of Haridwar who have protected and cherished this ancient legacy 🙏🙏🙏

​@@johnsnow3940 If you don't know something then you should not say it, this tradition is not a new tradition but has been going on for thousands of years, after the last rites we immerse the ashes of our ancestors in the Ganges.......Where the Pandit sits who writes the names of our ancestors according to their clan, place and village and the name of the person who has left their ashes and his signature is written below. We can find this as per our Gotra... If you don't anything then keep quite...

I got this record from my father.. you have to ask your family members if they ever visited haridwar for last rites.. in earlier times for asthi visarjan people use to visit haridwar and they have to record the names there with some purohit.. the name of purohit is mentioned in the document which I got.. so next time when I will visit.. I will update the family tree for my children
