The more I see of Guadalcanal through the beautiful and quite informative images in this series, the more I am astonished that the uncle I knew as a host and grill master understood that place, too. And that the smiling tall man I knew him to be had lived everything that meant being a marine on Guadalcanal.

This series is very educational. My dad was there, Corpsman with 1/7 Marines. He never talked about it. So to me it's interesting to know where he fought at there. Sadly, my dad passed away in 2006 while I was in Afghanistan. As the majority WWII vets never really talked about their time in the Pacific, it's good to know that YOU guys are keeping the memories alive. I served from 1975-2009 AS a Corpsman, Independent Duty. Severed with a few Marine units. Sea time, submarine service. Guys keep it up.

Oh wow. Glad that I could share a bit of where he served.

I have to say this has become a real favorite of mine. It’s amazing how the jungle and the beach have taken over. I wonder if many soldiers had the thought that while they appreciated Puller’s model of wanting to stick it out with his troops - if any thought - we’d rather make sure we had our commander long term in good health to keep leading us…?

Yeah but those ex confederate soldiers with lead shot still in their legs didn't have to command an army. Chesty should've had that removed asap!!

The pacific theater of WWII really seems to get less recognition. The irony I find in that is, but not for what became the pacific theater…there would not have BEEN a WWII. What was happening in Europe was allowed to continue because Roosevelt had gained favorability as a peace president and had promised as much. Things weren’t that much better in America until, the Japanese were goaded into an attack on the pacific fleet in 41. Interestingly enough…American aircraft carriers happen to be at sea, and not moored in Pearl Harbor. Sadly, the pacific battlefields don’t get the recognition or preservation by those they most benefited, and as the years go by…so too, does the remnants of our history, and the worlds. The European battlefields are much more accessible and far better maintained. I hope Germany in the worlds struggle to be politically correct, doesn’t eradicate all that Germany was, in the 1930’s and 40’s. But I’d REALLY like to island hop in the pacific and see what remains of one of the most epic battle fronts in our history. I remember so many WWII veterans, including four of my uncles, and most are gone. At 65, I’m not sure I have time left to see all the places our republic preserved the world from extinction as it was prior to WWII. Great episode!!! Really great!!

Doing what we can to show people more of these Pacific War battlefields. Feel free to share it out!
