OFF THE FLOOR ON THE BOARD PAUL KARIYA! like if you were in shock when you saw that he scored right after the Stevens hit.

When the Steven's train hit Kariya ....my brother jumped out of his seat and screamed "He's DEAD!". People forget how tense the moment was, how scared everyone was until Kariya took that first shallow breath after being totally laid out. His comeback in that game to score a goal was one of the sickest athletic feats I have ever witnessed.

This season was when I started watching hockey. Good memories, even though my Canucks lost from up 3-1, and the Mighty Ducks I was cheering for in the final ended up coming up just a little short. Was amazing to see Kariya come back and score after that hit though.

Fun fact, Detroit's trade for Robert Lang was a 1st rounder that became Mike Green. Green then signed in Detroit and before his injury last season, Washington was the front runner with Tampa to get him at the deadline.
@thpisland24236 жыл бұрын
End of an Era. Nobody seems to talk about this but for 8 years 3 teams dominated: Devils, Red Wings, and Avalanche. Devils often get forgotten in favor of Detroit which kind of sucks
@GreenHornet5536 жыл бұрын
And the Devils were arguably the best of the three.
@JHockeyFan6 жыл бұрын
And while they did not dominate, the Stars were in back to back SCFs so they were also a major part of the late 90s/early 2000s.

THP Island I've said it before but Devils' "David vs. Goliath" era of Ray Leonard'ing the western Marvin Haglers was fun in its own way and hopefully history will look back beyond "Ugh, trap!" and view the classic Devils more favorably in time.
@kevaninthe41356 жыл бұрын
The Devils deserve to be derided. They were boring as fuck. They had trouble selling out their own arena in championship years. Even the home fans didn't really like the product.
@theawesomer85876 жыл бұрын
Brodeur had 7 shutouts that year in the playoffs, which is still a record. I think if that mistake goal in game 6 didn't happen, he'd be the Conn Smyth winner. Game 7 vs Ottawa is my personal favorite Devils game ever played. The third period was the best 20 minutes of hockey ever. I felt Ottawa had a much better team and they nearly won.
@jimking22995 жыл бұрын
Most heartbreaking game in Senators history. I thought they had it won. Bad missed call on a Madden slewfoot followed almost immediately by Sens' Dzone screwup that left Friesen all alone to apply the fatal blow.
@yoholmes2732 жыл бұрын
MARTY set the ALL TIME PLAYOFF record for shutouts including 3 in The Finals including GAME 7! Yet he loses the MVP to the loser goalie. To this day, it is still the biggest highway robbery in hockey ( after the pens tanking for Mario). They gave Gigi the trophy so the sports writers could have a "feel good" story about Western conference California hockey who to that point had won absolutely nothing of note.

I literally randomly watched old hockey videos last night and watched the news from the day the Leafs fired Pat Burns. Cliff Fletcher was in tears. Both guys were in the meeting. The Leafs were actually still in a playoff spot. They went on a slump for two months and he was fired.

Speaking of Fleury...Makes me wonder why Pittsburgh let Fleury go for nothing in the expansion. They should have traded him before the trade deadline in 2016-17 season for a pick(s) to a team that was desperate for a goalie, like Oilers, Carolina, Calgary. You bet your ass those three teams would have taken him and protected him in the draft. That way Vegas gets nothing. But that didn't happen and Vegas got a top 10 goalie Fleury for free.
