Pretty harsh to knock the Devils 3 spots when this week they outplayed Ottawa and lost a tight one, absolutely destroyed the Bruins, and then beat Montreal, who've been hot lately, on the road in OT. Feels like this is either carry-over punishment for the January cold streak, or preemptive punishment assuming that the Devils will struggle with Markstrom injured. Either way, tough to fall 3 spots after a 2-1 week against 3 teams that have all been going pretty well lately. For my two cents, it felt like this week was the team breaking out of their slump and getting back to good hockey again much more than not. They haven't played perfectly, but they look more like themselves than they had the previous 2-3 weeks. The Markstrom injury obviously hurts, but Jake Allen is very capable and should be able to keep things stable until Marky is 100%. If the team continues to get back to playing the way they were pre-January, they won't need elite goaltending to win games, and as long as Allen gives them league average performances, they should be fine through this next stretch, and the mid-February break will be an opportunity to get healthy.

@ the rangers?? You’re drawing lines arbitrary for what counts to make it fit this. The devils are one of the top teams in the east by points and wins. Saying other teams are more “respectable” is totally subjective. Devils deserved to drop for their recent performances, no doubt. They don’t deserve to be top row. That said, their collapse is no where near as epic as the rangers. The last few games have seen them starting to turn things around. Same in reverse when Edmonton played Washington. Outshot Washington badly without McDavid but Thompson stood tall. There's a case for Edmonton keeping the top spot going 2-1 without McDavid this week, outscoring the opposition 11-7. Especially with the capitals losing to Van.
@obi-wankenobigoat8 күн бұрын
@@whodat3700I think if oilers go 3-0 without McDavid they easily take the #1 spot, especially with getting that head to head win over Washington, isn’t it scary that a team missing the best player in the league is still able to go toe to toe with anyone.

So, I'll look forward to your returning them to the second row as soon as possible. Who knows, by March they might be back in familiar territory in the third row? The fans can't stop recommending various players be traded, dropped down, left sitting in the booth? The real question is why they were there in the first place. Of course, what do I know? The draft that still eats at me, we had 2 picks in the first round. Why didn't we trade up to get Bowen Byrum? Again, maybe I'm wrong...but I know what my senses tell me each season.
