@sallybags909010 күн бұрын
Yeah, it's interesting. When Detroit is in the playoffs, the NHL ratings go up. There's a lot of buzz. I think its because they had a 26yr playoff run. In that time, they went to 6 Cup Finals winning 4 Cups. Maybe its just Detriots history. For the most part, they're a classy organization. That organization did a lot of amazing things like that legendary 2001/02 Hall of Fame team that won the cup. They have had really bad luck in the draft lottery. During these 8 years, they always lose a spot. They drop back. Even the year they drafted Lucas Raymond, that year they were the worst team in all of hockey and they fell out of the lottery to the 4th overall spot, lol. But they did get Lucas Raymond who is an amazing player. Drafting Seider shocked everyone, and he's a great young defenseman. They have another really good big young defenseman, Simon Edvinsson. The dude is 6'6 who's physical and smooth offensively. He was drafted 6th overall a few years ago. They also have this really tough kid Marco Kasper. He plays like a 4 year vet, lol. I found out they have the top defenseman prospect in all of Europe. Axl Sandin Pellika in the SHL. Seider played in that league and won player of the year and defenseman of the year. Its a mens Swedish league. Well this Swedish kid has better numbers than what Seider had, lol. He was drafted 17th overall. Watch that kids' highlights online. He's scary good. That team knows how to draft. I think they've only had one 1st overall pick in the last 40 plus years. The highest pick they had in that time was Keith Primeau at 3rd overall. Yzerman was 4th overall, and Raymond was 4th overall. Its just going to take another year or two to get all the kids ready and a couple good trades. But they definitely have the talent. Nate Danielson is projected to be a second line center. He was their 9th overall pick 2yrs ago. Conner Bedard was asked "who was the toughest player you played against in Canada?" He said "Nate Danielson." I like watching the wings in the playoffs. Tbey have a tonne of fans all over the country, lol. They're die hards. They go to opposing teams stadium and cheer on Detroit.

There's been a night and day difference in their 5 on 5 play. The first game after Toronto, when Detroit scored I think their 3rd goal, Mickey said something like "what. is. happening?" We had been sitting back and sitting back letting the other teams take it to us. You could hear it and see it in every player's interviews, they hated Lalonde's systems and seeing the mood shift, winning streak or not, has been a big difference. We're in the conversation now for a wildcard, which matches Yzerman's stated expectation for the team. When we were sitting dead last in the east, everybody would have taken that. They still have a lot to work on, but there's a possibility it happens now. They're fun to watch again.

Their powerplay has been great, scoring 3 PP goals in the win against Florida and are among the tops of the league in that category but they really got to work on their penalty killing because it has been bad this season. Under 70 percent isn't going to win you a lot of games even if you do make the playoffs.

@@lifeofjerm_Agreed. Ken Holland was a great pre-cap manager but he never fully adapted to the Salary Cap and it took an entire decade for its effect on him to really show. He drained the farm and sacrificed long term success for immediate results and this current playoff drought is the result of that. Yzerman has really done wonders in the 6 years as GM, hitting on nearly every first round pick (first round picks aren’t always guarantees and some are way better than others, like Seider and Raymond), making phenomenal trades and ensuring contracts aren’t too bloated to enable the upcoming prospects to be the most set up for success. I want to make the playoffs this year and I think we will, but if we don’t, focus on the progress that’s been made instead of pointing the finger at Yzerman. In 2 or 3 years when we are constantly making deep cup runs for years to come thereafter, nobody is going to complain about how great a job Yzerman is doing. On a side note, there were SO many talks of trading Yzerman in the mid 90s because he was approaching 30 years old and the Wings weren’t getting to that next level, still not ending their Cup drought, and this was the case year after year, especially after their stunning sweep against the Devils in the 1995 Finals. But nobody remembers this because adjustments were made, the Wings acquired Brendan Shanahan in 1997, Yzerman started playing more defensively instead of racking in 60-70 goals a season, and then they won the cup, and then they did it two more times under Yzerman’s captaincy. Does this sound like similar frustrations with a team that has a captain approaching 30? Like I said, give it a year or two. We are right there.
@seven_curses12 күн бұрын
Ken Holland knew it was time to rebuild, the Illtch family wanted to keep the playoff streak alive. I also think Boston is a team who should be pretty worried, they've played more games than most all of those teams chasing them and they could be bumped out quite easily.
@captbloodbeard12 күн бұрын
that was never my impression from listening to every word he said around that time. Did he say after he moved on that he wanted to start it earlier but wasn't allowed to? I'm curious where what you claim comes from. Not saying you are wrong, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that Holland was just doing his job and executing as best he could for ownership, but the words I always heard him saying were that he himself thought getting into the playoffs meant they had a chance to win a Cup and keeping the streak alive was important for him as GM.
@seven_curses12 күн бұрын
@ I don't have a direct quote on it and I don't think he'd ever publicly say it was ownership's decision, it's just what I've heard on podcasts over the years with people who have connections in the organization. His decision making made no sense most of the time either. Most recent was probably when Gus forgot he was on the Wings and not the Rangers anymore and Lalonde kept putting him out. What did Todd do when Holl was having a bad game against sharks? He ended up benching him. Our new coach is not afraid to call players out and hold people accountable. He even gets down to the players and interacts / talks to them during a game....you know, coaching them. All Lalonde did was look around, rarely any emotion. It was SO CLEAR that Lalonde lost that locker room. This team is now playing like we expected them to. We have young promising talent breaking into the lineup and now that Todd is the coach they are taking off. We have some even MORE promising young talent coming up that I'm so excited for. What detroit needs is to improve their defense either a good left handed guy to compliment Seider or a good right handed guy for the top 4 hell if he can pull it off and do both that team would be a playoff team offense clearly is fine 4 goals per game average with McLellan lots of talent up front goaltending if Lyon can continue to be a solid goalie and Talbot can continue playing like he has the last couple games he started we'll be fine in net or atleast good enough to keep less goals out than the wings score hell like you said a good defensive penalty killing defenseman is exactly what we need i do also agree that Trouba could be a good fit hes right handed could be on that second pair with Edvinsson or Johansson hes also from Michigan and you know how yzerman seems to like adding his hometown boys i think a potential line up of like Edvinsson-Seider Johansson-Trouba Gustavsson-Holl or Chaiot-Petry Would be a decent blueline and with the weapons they have upfront could definitely surprise some people even more than we have

More like Ville Poo-so. Holl is a hole. Im ready to bring up Cossa and trade back for Walman.

The free agent signing frenzy a couple seasons ago seems like a mistake. Pulled out of the basement too soon (only 1 top 5 draft pick!) and dont have the elite talent in the pipeline to compete for a cup. Good talent, yes and some could be very good (ASP, Cossa). Is that enough to not just make the playoffs, but to become a true contender? I doubt it. I think they got tired of getting crushed by the lottery and didnt have the stomach to stay at the bottom of the league long enough to land elite talent through the draft. I think the 2020 draft result broke them. A shame because it still landed the future of the team in Raymond, but he needs more help than a Kasper and Daniellson are going to provide

I'd like to see us get 4 points from these next 4 games but more importantly, I want to see us fight for every game. Make an effort.

Sure, if they keep winning more than losing. Piece of cake.

I never want to see Husso or Holl on the ice for the Wings again after that embarrassing loss. That was a must win game against a bottom feeder team, especially when the standings are so close in the Atlantic, and they totally blew it. Tough schedule coming up too, defense needs to tighten up and fast if we have any plans of making a playoff push

Wings didn't start on time, that's undeniable, but if Husso saves one of those first 2 goals, and Holl doesn't make those embarrassing amateurish mistakes, the game would have been easily winnable. Hell, before Holl's second absolute brainfart in the 3rd, I knew the Wings were gonna come back and win it. They had all the momentum, we've seen these guys rally and win those situations so many times. Then Holl forgot what sweater he was wearing, and all the air in the arena left, and what was a sure thing one way became a sure thing the other.

The coaching change has been huge for Detroit and I think it will push them into the playoffs. Hopefully Ottawa & Columbus make the playoffs as well to really shake up the East.

We would have made it for sure last year if we had Talbot instead of Reimer, our tendie situation was awful last year

No! Don't believe it. They will only disappoint you like they did last year.

We need a top 4 Dman to let ASP and others ease into the lineup. Maybe Byfuglien will come back... LOL

It's crazy Seider has yet to have a good partner in the NHL. He's always lumbered with over the hill/rubbish veterans. The fact Chiarot is a top pair D man is embarrassing tbh.

I hope Detroit doesn't gamble away prospects. Especially not Axel Sandin Pellikka and Michael Brandsegg Nygard, they need to stay in Detroit so THG can have fun putting those long names on the board for the Red Wings. I'm still not over the fact they traded Ghost.
@saintsfn911 күн бұрын
They need a move to stay legit.This D can not hold up as is and keep the pp winning games. They need to solidify the top 4 D and even a bottom guy or pair. Be nice to shed some salary on a Petry or Copp move but i don't see much takers. I d love a splash move that moves the needle but its going to be a dogfight for that last wc spot.

That entire schedule looks scary. The Habs were the pushover now they are the hottest team besides the Wings. Dallas was floundering then went on a tear. Now it looks like the Kings are the worst of the group. No team will be out of the playoffs this year until game 79.

Just don't play like they did against the Sharks. If they don't make the playoffs, at least look competitive to carry the momentum into next season.

I want to see where they are after this road trip to see if this is real or not. Also think the coaching change should’ve come earlier and might’ve given us a head start on getting in. Overall I think Yzerman made a lot of bad moves this offseason and they’re showing up here and there lately even after the change

My prediction for the goalies is 1 of 2 thing 1. Yzerman believes Cossa could be ready to play nhl games and split games with Talbot Or 2. He lets Cossa get one more season in the AHL if he doesnt think hes ready nest year for full time nhl duty and resign Lyon and gave him and Talbot continue to split the next maybe even keep Campbell for a 3rd goalie option like i said in a previous comment yzerman seems to liks his hometowns boys and might wanna keep a 3rd string goalie whos experienced which Campbell fits perfectly in that Either way i see Husso gone hasnt had a .900 save % in 3 years now Talbot and Lyon are both better Cossa could be by next year hell i can see steve keep Campbell as a 3rd string goalie whether he brings up Cossa or lets Lyon walk like i said hes an experienced goalie has been good in the past hometown boy could definitely see him signing another league min deal to be our 3rd string goalie for Lyon's contract if he stays it depends how the rest of the season goes if he continues how he has under Todd so far which is like a .920 average probably since Todd took over he could easily try to get a similar contract to Husso's current contract like 4-4.5 mil depending on if he helps bring us to the playoffs and plays well if not and he kinda plays good but not great you can probably drop that to like 2-2.5 instead i think ideally like a 2-3 year contract in the 2-3 mil range that way in the off season in 2026 and Talbot is ready to either retire it explore other options they can have Lyon Cossa for the 2026-27 season not bad at all
