Shannon, that 113-point season for the Sabres in 2006-07 is tied for the highest total in their history, set in 1974-75 when they were tied with the Canadiens and the Flyers with 113. But they missed out on home-ice throughout the playoffs because Philly had 51 wins to the Sabres' 49.

I think part of being underrated comes from the defensive numbers of the team overall. During his tenure in net, the NJD were THE best defensive team in the NHL. Because of this, Broduer faced less shots on average than other goalies from the previous decade - on average. So the question of whether he was good is a an obvious yes. Yet when you take into consideration the trap-era, the low amount of shots to previous years that featured goalies like Roy and Hasek, he tends to be viewed differently. Solid yes, amazing at times, still one of my favs, but his value is somewhat softened when you take a more major-label look. Best goalie of that era? Yes, hands down. Not so much maybe in the grander scheme? Just my observation.

The Canes were a pretty good team that year but they had mountains and mountains of injuries. They only had 8 players who played more than 75 games. Cory Stillman, Glen Wesley, Erik Cole, Niclas Wallin, Bret Hedican, Andrew Ladd, Josef Vasicek, Frank Kaberle, Tim Gleason, Dennis Seidenberg, Kevyn Adams, Trevor Letowski, Andrew Hutchinson, Anton Babchuk all missed significant time with injuries, and a lot of those players missed 25-30 games. I hate the attendance argument so much. If you only come to games when you have a winning team, your fan base isn't loyal or your market isn't stable.
@JHockeyFan5 жыл бұрын
No it means your tickets are priced too high or you don't have a large enough of fan base. Toronto has a ginormous fan base, which is why they still sell out even when they're absolute trash.
@treymagathan8475 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Zygmunt Last time I checked, admission prices go down when teams are bad, so it's all par for the course there. As for Toronto, their market is the best in the NHL even with the CAD being valued at $1.31 CAD per $1 USD and having a smaller market from places like Boston, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Montreal. No question about their loyalty, that's for sure. Even when the Leafs were complete ass, they still sold out every game without having to drop admissions prices by a staggering amount. The Panthers, on the other hand, while having a smaller market than Toronto and having an arena almost an hour away from Miami, do have the benefit of the USD, high marketability with the talent of their core and the name of Roberto Luongo twice, exclusive marketing to most of Florida since Tampa is literally secluded from the rest of Florida in a bay, and have assembled a semi-competitive team that's fast and skilled. Yet, because the team isn't making the playoffs, the fans aren't showing up. Part of that has to do with having one of the largest arenas in hockey according to seating capacity, but mostly it has to do with financial seppuku in management and lack of merch sales despite the rebranding. I'm not advocating for the Panthers to move, but I do wish their situation wasn't complicated and they could draw more fans and start growing the game out there. A high school shooting in Parkland shouldn't be what motivates fans to attend Panthers' games, that's just insanity.

I gotta disagree about what you said about havlat. In the mid 2000's, I honestly thought Havlat was one of the best in the NHL. His problem was injuries, if you look up his stats, he was a point per game player at that point in his career. He just didn't play a full season for quite a few years in a row. And I think all those injuries kind of put a cap on his potential, and shortened his time as an elite player in the nhl as well. Without those injuries, I think he goes down in the same category as the Sedins to be honest. So to me, it isnt suprising that he led the hawks in scoring. What's surprising is that he led the hawks in scoring that year even though he only played 56 games.

There's levels, and there is people who know more about specific teams or things. Of course you know more than a casual fan. And of course you can't know every little thing about every team, and you may have a fan of a player or team that spends all the time you do on all of hockey, on that one thing. But they don't have to be a snob towards you cuz you don't know as much as them, and find you a head ache. Anyway, I say this pretty loosely.
