He has a great shot and a good build, and he played with the best players in the NHL. We will see how he does without MacKinnon and Makar.

rantanen is monster but lazy during regular season. he doesn't play much D. it gets much better during play off. as an avs fan I am pretty shocked I expected him to sign for like 12.5 or something like that. Now I have to give up an idea that I will see mack, mikko, and landy on the same line. avs now have almost 6 mil cap space I am curious what they will do next.

The future ... maybe 4 $tuds per team , surrounded by minor leaguers and vets winding down their careers . Same here. With a GP, G, A record like that, he (rantanen) was one of the key players to make the playoffs this year. I don’t know everything , but it looks like a hasty move that shouldn’t have happened until after the season is over.

The hard truth is Mikko was going to be a free agent at the end of the season. Avs don’t have the cap space to pay Mikko what he’s worth and (now this is where I sprinkle in thoughts and speculation) unless Mikko was willing to accept less there was no way the Avs could get a deal done. Not to mention the possibility of remaining under the superstar shadow of MacKinnon and Makar. So I think they traded him now so they got something in return for him, instead of failing to come to a deal and letting him walk at the end of the season. Maybe my speculation is spot on, maybe it’s way off. Overall with the 2 draft picks added just a couple minutes ago, I think the trade is a good one. I think Necas will fit in well. I don’t know much about Jack Drury to be honest. It’s a tough one to wrap our heads around, but at this time, that’s the best wrapping job I can do.

The Canes got probably one of the best players they've ever had on a roster with Mikko. Extremes excited to see him in a Canes jersey. And yeah, the jokes about resigning are valid until we actually do it. Can't imagine though that the brain trust makes such a blockbuster trade without having a solid plan in place to reign at what he wants. And Colorado is getting a guy that will fit their system extremely well. He should net 80-90 points with the way Colorado plays.

@ well, first of all I don’t think they’re done… and secondly, lot of depends on Landeskog situation. Carolina is all in, they have to win, they’re kind of running out of time. Colorado won and has the superstars to build around. Spreading the quality through out the roster is the key. I like the deal, and overall I don’t think Colorado got worse.

Losing Mikko hurts. Trading a Top 10 Forward and easily a 100 point player is never going to feel great. As an Avalanche fan I want to see what they do next. One thing is for certain, the Colorado Front Office is not afraid to take big swings. The problem is that taking big swings can lead to a strike out.

The guy might actually be underrated. 2 seasons ago the avs went like a month and a half with so many injuries that everyone was calling us the colorado eagles. Mikko absolutely put the backpack on and his number went up. Most people thought they would go down without mack and makar. Guy is really really good

I would be lying to say I am not gutted, and think if the front office was more proactive they could have gotten a deal done before Edmonton blew the market. I also would have expected a better return for Mikko, not that Necas is a bad player but I would have expected more. All that said they had to trade him if they were that far off on a deal, but the Avs are a worse tonight than they were this morning

I was hoping the return for Hall and taking on the salary would be better for the Hawks. Hall had his moments where he went a couple games where he got points and looked good and then he had streaks of disappearing. I wish him well though and hope he can have an impact on the Canes.

As a Canes fan....I'm blown away. Rantanen has had 3 seasons of 90+ points. Trading Necas is a risk because he was looking really solid. But Rantanen is only 2 years older and proven. Didn't have to give up a 1st round pick. Glad it happened earlier than the Guentzel trade last year.

Rantanen isn't worth 14 million dollars under Jared Bednar. He might be worth 14 million dollars if Brind'Amour can beat some drive/motivation/whathaveyou into him so he stops playing lazy, taking shifts off, and getting bodied off the puck by smaller players. MacKinnon drives play through his speed; Nichushkin drives play through forechecking; does Rantanen drive play?

I'm confused with what the Hawks were doing here. Retaining cap plus giving up Hall for a 3rd round pick? It seems like they get fleeced to me. Carolina I think did the best in this trade but Colorado did pretty good as well. Poor Bedard now has even less offence with him on the Hawks now to.

Flipping for assests was always going to happen. He should be worth the third by himself. The cap retention could be worth a 2nd based on previous trades. I don't get what Chicago was doing.

Hawks have endless cap room right now so their money isnt as easy to leverage, also they save a retention slot by getting halls contract out clean(instead of retaining mikko and then also having to retain on hal in a likely later trade). They gain a roster spot for their very promising prospect pool to try to win. I think they did fine. nothing crazy but theyre a rebuilding team brokering a deal, they get a high 3rd round pick for a guy who was worth less and not coming back.

Chicago could swing for someone like Wyatt Johnston or Shane Wright since both Dallas and Seattle are near the cap, or force WInnipeg to choose between Nik Ehlers and Gabe Vilardi.

From a long time, diehard Avs fan, I've never been more devastated by a trade. This feels even worse than when the Broncos traded Von Miller a few years ago. This really, really hurts. Moose was one of my top 5 favorites all-time and I will proudly root for him in Carolina. That said, I'm thankful that CMac was able to see the writing on the wall and get a deal done. Letting him walk in the off-season would have felt far worse. Excited to see what Necas can do, and with added cap space...time to get Sid! Thank you, Moose. Avs fans everywhere will always appreciate what you meant to this team. 🫎

Rantanen isn't quite worth 14M, but he's easily worth 12M and in my opinion, you don't split hairs over 2 million for elite scoring in this league. The Avs also probably could have gotten Rantanen down a bit from 14 because they had the extra year to offer. The biggest issue was they just didn't want to pay him more than MacKinnon.

Necas already often looks like he's playing too fast for his own head to keep up with the speed and ends up in situations where he doesn't know what to do. He's the biggest almost superstar I've ever seen. Makes a couple impressive moves in quick succession looking like McDavid, but then just passes the puck to nobody etc., ultimately not achieving anything despite looking very flashy.
