Thank you for the video on Joan Jett. Growing up and learning to play in the South, we had no awareness about her struggles as an artist. At that time in the late 70s/early 80s we were into all kinds of music. I didn't know that much about Joan's music, but in 1980 the female singer in our band (we had female and male singers), her sister was supposedly good friends with Joan Jett, so I remember in 1980 playing 'I Love Rock n Roll' and 'Bad Reputation' because Heather (the singer) had those recordings. We had no idea about the disdain of Joan Jett! It is shocking, we loved those songs!!!! Long live Rock n Roll and Joan Jett!!!!

I faked my way into the front row center where we found two empty seats. Danced our asses off to the Runaways. I remember reading (Creem or Circus mag) that Joanie played pro women's softball in the brief time between the Runaways breakup and starting her solo career. She actually considered making pro sports her thing, due to the major label rejection the Blackhearts got. And about that - it's long been rumored the Runaways acrimonious split with their manager / svengali Kim Fowley was the principal reason no label wanted anything to do with any of the girls after the band's breakup. Lita had major difficulties getting a solo career up and running. Cherie struggled with substance abuse and even tried acting for a few years without much success. Jackie Fox and Vicky Blue both left the music industry altogether and went back to school. Sandy played in various local bar bands and ended up working in a veterinary hospital I think.
@DonMacGillivray2 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm, not sure where you got any of that, Joan never played woman's pro ball nor considered pro sports as a career. She was a big fan of the Cleveland Indians however. The principal reason labels were resistant to signing Joan or Lita had nothing to do with Kim Fowley and more to do with The Runaways inability to chart in any major market beyond Japan. Cherie's first acting gig was as one the leads in a major studio motion picture (Foxes 1980) and worked in both film and TV before moving onto marriage (Robert Hays / Airplane) and motherhood...
@storybellz Жыл бұрын
@@DonMacGillivray Actually, the OP is correct- Joan had always fantasized about a pro sports career. In fact, in an early-1980 or so interview, Joan said that if the Blackhearts didn't work out, she'd like to try out for her fave baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles. She may have said that half-jokingly, but she has always wished she was a baseball player too, in addition to what she dowa. She even went to Fantasy Camp to learn from the pros in 1991 or so. Not sure where you got that she liked the Cleavland Indians- though she loves all baseball, so I'm sure she's fine with them, but they are not her fave team.

They were "incognito" , so to speak, dress in regular clothes, no stage make-up. Just a couple girls about 50. I talked to them for about 15 minutes, never said anything about who they were, and they never let on. But I had to so see some family, so I couldn't stay and talk. As I left I said ," Y'all have a good show tonight" LOL . I really wanted to stay and hang out, but I just couldn't. Nice girls

I completely understand her struggle with "Women in Rock and Roll". It's something to acknowledge and appreciate. That being said, If she had SUCKED, she would have proved them Right. She did NOT. She was/is great. She is a Rockin' Rocker. "Female Rocker" implies she is something different. A different Standard. Good is good, period! The Added Struggle, is Note Worthy. But while it was happening, the Whole Idea was, "It shouldn't be happening! Who gets a Rats Ass if I sit or stand when I pee?" There is a Parable about, "If the door is blocked, use a Window." Joan took it to and completely different level. She just blusted through the entire wall! ..... Do you know what that is called?......... Rock and Roll! Again, Joan Jett is a Rocker, NO Gender Identifier needed! Her Best selling song rates 3rd on my list of Rock songs, "I love Rock and Roll" Second is: ACDC's Thunderstruck First on my list: is Joan Jett, "I hate myself for Loving you."
