What always stood out to me at the beginning was the absolute balls it takes to walk across the battlefield within feet of the entire opposing army seconds after killing their most beloved champion. No matter how good you are, you're relying on your reputation and their honor alone to keep them from tearing you apart.
@vincelorino43944 күн бұрын
back then , " shame" could actually get you "minecrafted". if they did , they'd be known as " the COWARDS who broke a pact of 1-v-1 combat , ganged up on him , etc... " they would get ZERO CREDIT for the kill. they'd be signing their COUNTRY'S " please invade me now - warrant." basically they'd be telling the rest of the world - " we have no honor , will not honor agreements and we'll stab you in the back" . essentially giving the green-light for their country to get war-crime'd into oblivion and have every member of said nation slaughtered/enslaved or worse. we live in an "honorless" time where you're more likely than not to get jumped if you beat up 1 guy out of a group of friends/associates/etc... even if you both agree'd to a 1-v-1.

The legend was that Aeneas travelled to the hills of Rome and began what would grow into the Roman Empire bearing the sword of Troy. My very favorite Homeric story is the Odyssey---the adventures of Odysseus traveling back to Greece. I would LOVE to see a great modern production of that.

According to Enneas myth? I think that could be partially true, in that among the tribes that founded Rome, why not one of them being some decendants of Troy. However, must keep in mind that saying "you come from Troy", same as saying your family is related to heroes of the mythological era, was something many would claim in antiquity even if it is not true. It made them feel proud and classy. Figure how this habitude went so far that some people even claim that the nordic Odin of the Sturluson Eddas is supposed to come from Troy.

The Trojans were Hellenic Asia Minor races. They spoke the same language and believed in the same Gods. In reality it was not a conflict of Greeks with another people, but of Greek sexes among themselves:The Achaeans who dominated central Greece centered in Mycenae and Greco-Pelasgian races of Asia Minor (Ionians, Phrygians, Chares) who dominated Asia Minor centered in Troy. A kind of civil war that is, as happened later in the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta

Achilles, to his company of soldiers, was what the Danes used to refer to as a "Sword Lord", a man that lead his warriors to great battles of victory, plunder, and glory. The 3 things that any true warrior lives for. Great battles of victory for stories of greatness. Plunder to entertain yourself in the downtime between fights. And glory to cement your name in the history books, for eternity to hear about.
@victore624210 күн бұрын
This dramatization plays a lot with historical fact. Agamemnon's brother Menelaus gets his wife Helen back. The City of Paris France is named after Paris, for love. The survivors of Troy went first to Carthage. Queen Dido fell in love with the leader of the survivors. Kingdom of his own. They went on to take over the Italian peninsula and become Romans. Best subjugating incorporating the Etruscan.

According to mythology, the arrow that pierced Achilles' heel was released from the bow of Paris, but it is said to have been guided by Apollo himself. According to some, Achilles was killed by Apollo himself or an arrow of Apollo who took the form of Paris. Because Achilles removed Apollo's head from the statue in the movie we saw.

That’s a common misconception. It’s likely derived from Germanic and the English word “quell” (to stem or put a stop). it first appears in Middle English. Prior, in Old English it was spelled cyllan or cwellan and it’s likely that led to the misconception. That’s not to correct you as an insult. I’m just an etymology nerd

The story goes that his mother, Thetis, made him invulnerable by dipping him in the River Styx while he was still an infant. Thing was he was held by the ankle as he was dipped in, he was all but invincible bar his ankle which was his only weak point.
