I always love this movie. The primate at the beginning and end is actually named Lucy. She was an Australopithecus Afarensis and the oldest known female ancestor about 3.2 million years ago. Hominins ( Us, Homo Sapiens Sapiens) come from a branch of the same evolutionary tree trunk as Lucy. The connection is being made in the movie between the beginning and the end of the evolutionary development of our species. Morgan Freeman has a much smaller role than I would have liked, he makes every film he’s in just that much better. Thank you for an excellent reaction.

On one hand - this movie is based on a giant misunderstanding (scientific statement "we only know, what we are using 10% of our brains for", has been misrepresented as "we are only using 10% of our brains"), on the other hand though - this is a great movie

Scarlet Johanson has 3 great sci-fi movies - Under the Skin, where she is an alien that picks up random men and eats them (a super creepy movie, especially when you realise the men the alien eats arent actors), Lucy, and Ghost in the Shell, where she plays the iconic Major Motoko Kusanagi - the section 9 cyborg who hunts criminals of the future. That is a great adaptation and a highly under-rated movie. ps "Lucy" is the name given to the partial skeleton of the first female upright walking ape who is on our ancestral timeline, about 3 million years ago. The scene where she touches the ape's finger can be inferred as 'Lucy meets Lucy". By implication, "Lucy" in this movie is the first of a newly evolved human species. Its all silly pop-science of course, but its an interesting idea.

Great movie, underrated. Only thing that's wrong is the answer about brain capicity. We use 100 %. Downside is that a little damage causes problems. But i stil love this one. Morgan and Scarlet, don't need anymore. And your reactions are always great. Big fan.
@timlanteigne2988 күн бұрын
Thìs. A common misconception from a decades old news story reported incorrectly. At any given time we may be using just 10% but 100% is available.

Unlike what the movie said, we use a much greater percentage all the time. The amount varies depending on the things actively happening. Things necessary to keeping us alive occur 24/7 such as brain functions responsible for heart beats or respiration. Other things occur in parts of our brain depending on what we may be doing - walking or talking (or both) for example. Thinking is another part - aspects of handling spatial analysis, how we perceive color, language, and much more. 10% was a misquote that fell into a common misinterpretation and urban legend.

Obviously, this is a fantasy, sci-fi film; interesting to think about the possibilities, explore the human condition. The concept that humans only use 10% of our brain is a concept that has been popular for some time- but it's not true. There was a study that suggested that we only use 10% of our brain at any given moment: We're always using some parts for automatic things like breathing and heart beating and such, when we're reading we're using the reading part, when we're listening to music we're using the hearing part, when we're taking a test, we're using the recollection part, but we're never doing all of those things at the same time, so only 10% of our neurons are firing at any given moment. Not like there is some dormant chunk of brain that never gets turned on, some untapped potential anatomy we're not using. And even that has been largely disproven by further research, so the 10% theory this film is based on really has no basis in science. BUT it's still an interesting theory to think about, and a fun action movie, gives one pause to contemplate our place in the world.
@tomgerasch56011 күн бұрын
Unfortunately, it's nonsense that we only use certain percentages of the brain. Our brain is not a CPU where we only use certain percentages. We and every other living being use our entire brain...always

How do u explain autism! The human brain is like that we have all their but cant used it correctly. I know a german guy who has a form of autism and can paint a whole city skyline and just watched it for 5 seconds and remember every window at every building but cant put on his shoes alone. Our brain is so complex at every part. U remember the smell after rain or mown grass but we cant remember things we've done with one year age but its still there. Love the idea of this movie and brilliant actors. ❤
