Just watched this video again and the information you guys provided was super helpful and informative. I think this is a topic that you could keep doing that would provide excellent content for us non pro anglers to consume. It would be awesome to watch a you guys compare the new version of the NRX to the prior generation, or the new Steez compared to the prior Steez, or the new version of the Expride to the prior generation Expride, to help highlight/illustrate how the new version and the prior version are alike and how they are different. Knowing and understanding what the companies change when they do a new release, if anything, is really helpful to consumers. As you eluded to below, it sounds like the old 872s and the new 872s are different animals, and it would be helpful to know how / what. Really appreciate you guys and the content you make and share.

FYI the NRX+ 872s is 3.36oz and the Windbuster is 3.68oz. I have both and have weighed them obviously. Griff is unfortunately wrong about the P5 being lighter. To be fair that's pretty much splitting hairs.
@thehookuptackle_usa2 жыл бұрын
Griff’s not wrong. He’s giving his personal feeling on the rod. Your personal opinion can’t be wrong 🤦 The NRX+ definitely has a heavier feel in hand - whether technically it is or isn’t. Now, to be fair it also had a Stella on it, which is a full ounce heavier than an exist. But the rods have a completely different feel - no matter what the actual ounces are. I’m glad you weighed them. You probably balanced them on your finger too.

The Stella never caught the knot, an we used leader lengths of short and long for that reason. The Stella is heavier. But this is a first look, initial thoughts review. The rod isn't going to perform different with an Exist on it. It's a meaty rod - built for power.

G.Loomis definitely lacks a lot of "sex appeal" cosmetically. But they've always been designed with more traditional American styling. Shakeyhead is lighter in power, and really a bottom contact only rod. Windbuster is more powerful and gives you the versatility of using it for reaction.

@The Hook Up Tackle I was able to feel a big steelhead hit my ned rig on a slack line while falling. It was the lightest bite I have felt. I think they labeled the lure weights from the old NRX but the spiral x really makes the overall rods more rigid and stiffer.

@fongvang935 Жыл бұрын
I'll take the nrx cause its warranty is just better. Megabass got a wacked warranty. The megabass probably feels "lighter" because of the balance. The way the nrx blank is design, the mass is concentrated just above the reel seat and always feel a little tip heavy even though the rod is super light. I can say if you put the exist on the nrx, it'll feel very tip heavy.
@dangkhang94792 жыл бұрын
if you are not using bottom contact baits with the NRX then it a waste of money. I wacky rig both NRX and Expride and they both feel the same. The difference comes when your bait is touching bottom. For me, NRX don't really blow me away but is an upgrade from Expride.
@fishncoach86992 жыл бұрын
Having never picked up a $500+ rod, does the sensitivity difference show up as much for feeling a bite? Seems to me that it would be more for detecting bottom composition or bait vibration. But like I said, I've never used one. In my mind I've always thought of detecting a bite more like feeling a pull versus a vibration
@thehookuptackle_usa2 жыл бұрын
It definitely does. With these more sensitive rods, you can actually feel a pressure bite vs waiting for a pull.

Don’t bother with G Loomis, absolute joke, recently purchased a 902NRX +, loved the specs, thought it was perfect until I discovered it had a serious rattle, it was as if there was something loose inside the blank, checked the guides and saw nothing wrong, finally I complained to the shop I purchased the rod from and was told that this was a standard problem with all the G Loomis rods, I mean seriously, for a rod of this price should you have to put up with this, I’m based in Australia, always dreamed of owning one of these rods, then comes the let down, don’t hear anything on the net about these rods having this common issue, not sure if it’s a case of fuck it just send the shit to Australia they’ll cop it.

Longer rods is a way to get you to spend more money. The rod action is where it's at. I Ned Rig with a 6' rod, as the technique was developed. If your going to use a "jig worm" then it changes. Let's go to the tenchnique? Most angers don't get it because they are baitcast jockeys.

This could be my ignorance in the subject but how much of fishing rods are just marketing telling you how good they are compared to others . Technically they all do the same thing

Same could be said in almost all aspects of life. Is it better to be at the Super Bowl or watch it on tv? Same game. Better to eat filet mignon or sirloin, better to play a Taylor guitar or a cheap Walmart special. It’s all about enjoying what you do. Is a $600 rod 6 times better than $100 rod, not even close, but it sure is alot more fun catching a 4 lb smallie on my nrx822dsr vs an ugly stick.

does the megabass have a "made in china" sticker on it?..if it does,it automatically looses,just sayin
@thehookuptackle_usa2 жыл бұрын
Everything made in china has a made in china sticker on it. This is one of the oldest, dumbest arguments in fishing. But I'm happy to have it again if you really want to have it. The G.Loomis (and pretty much every rod on the market) uses made in china parts; is that ok with you? If you're anti china - be all in. If you're concerned with the quality of the build - the country building it isn't important, the quality control of the facility is important, whether its a china facility, Korea, Japan, USA - wherever.

@@thehookuptackle_usa ..bro.i dont wanna show my ass on a public venue but,,i realize the majority of stuff in the fishing industry is made in china.there are only certain items that still engage American labor at the least in the finishing process.It is no secret that Americans make a living in Washington state putting loomis rods together.If im spending multiple hundreds of dollars on a product and have a chance to spend it with a company that still employs Americans,in America..thats what im doing!yea,i DESPISE china,unfortuantly we are left with few options.however the ones we are left with need to be utilized and support our fellow Americans wherever and whenever possible...it just kills me that the megabass rods are not jdm!i would buy them all,Japan is a great ally!

@@hometownguy7184 Megabass also employs Americans - lots of them. They employ Americans in America at their warehouse, in sales positions, in rod development, in bait r&d, in brand growth, marketing, advertising - all the places I employ Americans or G.Loomis employs Americans. And their rods are JDM. JDM doesn't mean made in Japan, it means made for the Japanese Domestic Market. They can be made anywhere, including the USA, China, Japan - wherever. I'm all for American labor and supporting American companies and Americans any way I can. But at the end of the day, offering a less expensive rod is also good for Americans purchasing the rods. If Megabass rods were made in Japan or the USA they'd be twice the price, which would be bad for you and me and for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who purchase Megabass rods. I have no interest to change your mind in where you want to spend your money. If the Loomis and Megabass were exactly the same rod, for exactly the same price, and the choice was Made in USA or Made in China - I don't know anyone who wouldn't choose Made in USA. But that's not what the options are.

I am looking for a single (and only) Spinning Rod in my arsenal to be used for regular drop shot use and other bottom bait setups running braided with a flouro leader. That being said do you feel the Windbuster (as a dedicated bottom & drop shot rod) could also double as a decent Great Lakes walleye rod during early season (Spring & early Summer) at 35-40ft depths for running Erie Dearies, harness baits, and an occasional walleye swim baits?
