One of the best explanations of how to fish a jerk bait. I will use these techniques in my upcoming fishing. Thanks so much for sharing. On a side note my first Vision 110 jerk baits, I broke the bill off on one on my second cast to a railroad bridge on Pool 8 on the Mississippi and the second one is still in a tree on a backwater area on the same pool.

Ben…this was the most informative jerk bait lesson for me from KZbin. I fish the Ito oneten , Ito shiner and other Megabass jerkbaits. I caught tons of pike in the past with vision oneten but since I switched my rod to a P 5 oneten special, my catches dropped significantly. Thanks to you, I clearly now know that I work the bait too hard. Your explanation was so enlightening….you guys from The Hook Up Tackle rock!!
@arnemueller21123 жыл бұрын
@@wolverinex4243 I never broke a lip on a OneTen, instead I got tangled too often. Honestly, I would never use this bait with a H or a MH rod. I use the P5 Oneten stick which seems to me a M power, with a fast tip and a more moderate bend. Braid to Fluoro leader with a titan leader tip (northern pike would cut Fluoro). This is no optimal setup, as the baits suspending capabilities are affected by the titan leader, but I can’t waive it as I would lose too many baits/fish. Nevertheless…thanks for your comment!!
@arnemueller21123 жыл бұрын
@@wolverinex4243 I use the chinese knock offs as well, but when suspending capabilities are key I always use the original. Your bad opinion on this lure is a bit surprising to me because my perception is, that it’s one of the best jerkbaits in this size/weight and catches tons of fish. There are other good jerkbaits from Jackall, Duo, Deps etc. but if I have to choose only one my decision would be the Megabass Vision Oneten. What would be your choice?

My argument for primarily fishing a jerk-bait on spinning gear is due to the style/angle of my retrieve. I feel I’m more versatile with a spinning rod. When I retrieve on a casting rod I’m really only comfortable and effective in one direction. On a spinning rod I can twitch and jerk any which way and still make effective movements without negatively effecting the action. With that being said I always have 2 (sometimes 3) jerkbait setups on the deck at all times. - Ronin - Windbuster - Black Elseil II

Love watching jerk bait videos! But, always have questions. One, if I'm fishing a jerk bait in 3-5' water, do I need to draw the bait down a little after it hits the water? Two, I've read where people will move the bait a few inches in between jerks, maybe after the pause. Not every time but, they add that to their cadence. Have you done this? I've had great success with the 110 silent but, casting distance suffers without the balance transfer weight system in it. I can throw my 110 Juniors further. I'll be checking out more of your videos as I love jerk bait fishing all year and, I am a diehard Megabass 110/110 silent and 110 Junior fisherman!

I agree with the Megabass hooks they are very good hooks an hear so many people complaining about them bending. I have like 10 vision onetens couple Ito shiners and none of them have I bent a hook. I even caught my pb on Ito Shiner at 6.8 lbs an that didn't bend the hooks neither. Like u have to be setting the hook very hard to bend those an have ur drag way to tight as long as ur drag is set right an u don't yank like ur setting a jig hook. You shouldn't have a issue an also out barb hooks behave the same way barbless hooks do and penetrate like a needle so it def takes less force for them to actually dig into fishes lip.

Very good video! But can someone explain what the hell is the correlation between the line and the hooks? Didn't understand that part at all. Isn't the pound difference on the line just the breaking point of the line? From Sweden btw, almost everyone here use braid since 10 years ago.
@borreholic2 жыл бұрын

How much clarity would you say you need on average to throw a jerkbait successfully? And do you need about the same clarity to throw soft jerkbaits like a fluke? If the water is on the clearer side, do you start of with a slower cadence- and vice versa- fish it more aggressively if it's on the stained side? I seem to have all the stuff you covered right- I'm throwing them on 7 pound FC sniper, I'm using a moderate-fast action rod- medium 6'10". I'm using a 6:1 ratio- and I've started developing a feel for twitching through the slack and hitting the bait lightly at the end of the stroke- not moving it between jerks. Still- very rarely have success with them. The only thing I can think of that might be causing an issue is water clarity- we've had record rain fall and everything has been muddy and flooded all season- but even on a normal year we don't get much vis. I'd say it averages between 1-2 feet- only getting clear when we have drought conditions toward the end of summer. That said- I just found a new lake to start fishing that does stay clear- averages probably 3-4 feet but lots of days it's up to 6 feet. It's a lowland reservoir- fairly small relative to something like Pickwick but since no gasoline engines are allowed it's perfect for kayak anglers.

I think another mistake guys make (myself included) is fishing a jerkbait that isn't hitting the right depth. Sometimes i get stuck fishing baits that all dive in the same depth range. Sometimes the fish wants a bait that dives 9ft in 10ft of water, but sometimes they want a bait that dives 3ft in 10ft of water. I know i need to experiment more with hitting different water columns but in the same water depth, because sometimes i know there's fish in an area and they wont eat the jerkbait but its probably because the bait is mostly in their face, not over their head.

If you are good with a bait caster you can grip it and rip it even in the wind. I fish daily and it only took me a few days to get a feel for it. If I was you I would stop talking about how hard it is to cast a bait caster because you might be talking people out of them. I wouldn't touch one forever because of all the talk about how hard they are to cast, throw in the price of a good one it's a scary step.
