Finally, a KZbin fishing channel that says, "You don't have to spend $500 for a rod and reel". Thank you from a guy whose PB is just over 8lbs caught on a $40 WalMart spinning combo.

I caught a 20lb and 15lb grass carp on the 36" 15$ uglystik/shakespeare combo with 6lb line. The fish were longer than the rod. I used a dropshot setup with #6 octopus hook with pieces of chicken nugget as bait. I recently upgraded the reel to the smallest pfleugan wich cost about $30. It's now my fav setup for fish up to 15lb.

Thank you man. I have watched 50 videos like this “mistakes you making” they just tell you the “mistakes” they don’t break it down and explain how to fix them. Also towards the end when you were explaining how to actually work it on the retrieve was awesome. I definitely have a bad habit of going too fast sometimes. Thank you very much. Would love you to do the same type of videos on different techniques. Texas rig mistakes and retrieving.

He presents his methods in a manner in which you completely understand and has a way of teaching to even someone who knows nothing about fishing not to mention his video skills are at a high level with what I assume are shot with pro style equipment so you can completely see exactly what he is trying to show you unlike some clowns out there where they are shooting the content on some cheap ass phone themselves and it makes you dizzy just to watch it. Thanks for the info guys I like the videos the only thing I would like to see is maybe a budget option tossed in with your options on reels and rods. 199.99 to me for a reel is not realistic with kids and family. I usually stay around a 100 dollars for rods and reels and try to buy on sale as much as possible. I have a Daiwa Regal and I would say for 59.99 it’s a pretty solid reel it’s what I use all my spinning reel applications with and a med fast bass pro carbonlite rod. Is it the best no but it’s what I can afford. Drop shot is something I will be working on a lot coming up I like the videos keep up the good work. People who troll are dumb your giving your opinion just like they are except they are upset because it’s different from their opinion. Like you said it’s about taking a step in a different direction to make sure your doing it better then others so your catching more fish! Sorry about the long message I appreciate people taking the time for making videos like this.

I’ve caught a ton a fish on drop shot over the years. I’ve found that hook size and shape are much more important than line. Owner mosquito hook size 1 is my favorite for nose hooking. And it’s pretty weedless if you know the tricks. I’ve used mono and fluoro from 6lb to 12 lb with success. And I’m talking about fishing clear water lakes in CA for largemouth and smallmouth

I fish 100% mono 4 lb and 8 lb high quality line. I'm 74 years old a boat owner, been fishing bass all my life. I like the new technology but I keep it to the the new crank baits. They look as real as it gets. I also use all spinning reels for freshwater. Saltwater I fish Sabre and Penn Internationals. The best advise I can give for freshwater is slow down your retrieve.

Hey man! 90% of the time, a size 1 or size 2 for nose hooks gets the job done! For weedless, a 1 or 1/0 light wire is usually the best all around size. For rods, the Megabass P5 Windbuster and G.Loomis NRX 852 S JWR are my favorite 2 models!

Never lost a fish on the Gamagatsu dropshot hooks. I think most of fishing "tutorial" videos are people trying to sell you on a lure, hook, line, you name it. Oh, and I'm using cheap Pline and never had an issue. Maybe it's just the fisherman, not the gear. 👌

One thing that grinds my gears is the mindless regurgitation that “fluro is invisible”, because it’s not! Under water it looks exactly the same as monofilament line from 30 years ago. I have aquariums, I can see that.

I use mono and I also really do like copolymer from gamma, way stronger at much smaller diameter, less memory, more abrasion resistance than mono. But mono is cheaper, and still gets the job done, all leaders though, I don't like spooling the entire reel with mono or copolymer, hi vis braid, then 10 ish foot leader.

There's alot of eel grass in the harbors and bays around here (salt water bass fishing) and a weedless presentation is pretty much the only way to present it or it'll snag that stuff like crazy, around moored boats and bridge/dock pilings as well.

If thick cover scares you, you need to sell your fishing gear and take up crochet. Bait fish live in and around thick cover. Bass ambush bait fish from in thick cover. If you are scared and not fishing it, you aren't catching many fish. After the hatch, it's the male bass' job to safeguard the fry from other predators. Would you care to guess where the adult males teach the fry to hide?

My lake in upstate NY has sheer cliffs and the trees on the side of them basically fall into 35 feet of water. Throw a ned rig in there and you get snagged on every branch. That's heavy cover to me, but yeah I don't throw it giant weed beds. LOL

Surprised you didn't mention swivels.... I fish the dropshot in SoCal VERY differently than most. It's not a finesse tactic at all for me, more of a power drop shot. 8-10lb powerpro super8 v2 braid to 12lb sunline sniper leader - 10lb if the bite is tough, Spro power swivel (smallest size), size 1 rebarb hook and a 6 or 7" roboworm. And here's the kicker, 1/2 oz weight 99% of the time, the rest of the time 3/8oz weight - never anything lighter. I'm fishing this anywhere from 5-50' of water and I am covering a LOT of water with it. Giving it a "seizure" as you might call it. Not so much like you showed it, more like one would hop/stroke a jig, specifically on a semi-slack line. Catches/lands tons of fish - probably because it's so very different a presentation than most guys are throwing.

Nothing wrong with a swivel if it’s working for you! It sounds like you have a specific way of fishing it that’s working for you, and that’s awesome!! I find most people use or try the swivel to avoid line twists. I find if I keep my knot straight and my worm straight I don’t have twist issues, so no need for the swivel. I’m glad you’re jacking them!!

I think most of these "tips" are subjective rather than objective. This video assumes fish are always predictable but any novice angler could tell you that is not thr case. There are some good points in this video like you should be using flourocarbon line but prrtty much everything else is a day-to-day exercise of finding out what the fish wants that day. Some days they are line shy and others not so much. Some days the fish want that bait worked like electricity is running through your body and on other days a near dead-stick approach works better. Some days size and color and shape will be your enemy and on other days it'll be combination of everything. I've dropshotted for a long time and the key thing I've learned is don't listen to people who say they know it best because they're most likely the ones who don't know too much. I've kept fish and what I've observed is that they are always both predictable and unpredictable; and thus, the best weapon ANY angler has is the ability to adapt and think outside the box to trigger any kind of response. Keep them lines tight.

Great info. I have found that varying sizes of finishing nails make better sinkers. They are longer and track better across the bottom with less snags. Not super fast to sink, but works well, and much cheaper than fancy drop shot lead.

I love how everyone just auto repeats that flouro is a requirement for finesse fishing. Also, please don't say it is abrasion resistant. Its not. Nylon mono is way more abrasion resistant (many times over twice as resistant to wear in controlled testing). Also, flouro is not invisible. It is less visible for its diameter, but it's clearly visible underwater. If you do a side by side comparison with same straight pull pound test, its crazy how similar they are. Actual diameter to straight pull strength is stronger in the mono so the apples to apples comparison of line visibilty should be done with a slightly thinner nylon line when compared to flouro. I have no idea why nylon lines understate their breakstrength on the box so much more than flouro lines. It is almost as if the companies make more from selling flouro and have marketed it in a way to make you think you must use it. The marketing has been so persuasive with the flouro lines everyone just believes it without actually testing it. Edit: Oh and dont even get me started on fluorocarbon "leader" specific spools. Biggest profit margin in fishing.
@seahad4744
@seahad4744 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed, i used flouro mostly. My current line needs changing from abrasions. I can feel it and see it if I look close enough. I think line is preference and case by case. I really dont notice the volume of bites when using, braid, mono or flouro unless I get in my head. Most of my fish have been on braid.

Nothing is required man. If you like the line you’re using, if you like mono - great! Knock yourself out. My goal in my job is to help people elevate their game. Fluoro is 100% better than mono for finesse fishing when the bite gets tough; and I’m not just “repeating” stuff, I’m sharing knowledge that I’ve spent a lifetime accumulating. There is not a mono on the planet that is as strong and that can get bit as much as a good fluorocarbon. And I’m not sure where on the inter webs you’re getting your fishing profit information, but monofilament is actually the highest profit margin in my store, so I’d love for you to keep buying it 👍.

@@thehookuptackle_usa Test the lines in a controlled environment. Measure their diameters, their abrasion resistance, the straight-line strength and their underwater visibility characteristics in different water clarities. It was educational for me, and it probably will be for you as well. You totally lost credibility to me when you said flouro has "lots of abrasion resistance". I think you've been reading the box too much. Soak some mono and some flouro for an hour or two in water and then put them under tension and run some sand paper over them.

@@ikashibimauler I don’t do silly tests, I actually fish. And when you actually fish, you see the difference very quickly. Your argument is like trying to convince me that 4 is larger than 8. It’s not. But if you want to believe 4 is larger - cool! Carry on 👍. I have lots of mono for sale!

Dropshot rod lmaooo cmonnnn.. I hate the whole "one rod for one lure/style" kinda thing and the attitude it gives some people. Now having 2-4 combos all rigged with different things for a follow up cast and all that is one thing. But the guys who scoff at me for "not using the right style rod and reel" for whatever i'm throwing is a little much IMO. Just go fishing, god damn lol. But hey if thats peoples thing then have fun! Just don't tell me I won't be successful if i'm throwing a spinner bait on my 6 foot medium/fast spinning setup. It's happened before and it was a total eye-roll moment lmao. Not targeting anyone specific by the way i'm just talking in general. People get a little nuts-o about it all. Thats when i bust out my little ugly stik dock runner and finess with it lmao

No scoffing at anyone here; just trying to help people refine their craft. You don’t “need” a specific Dropshot rod to Dropshot, but if you want to fine tune your Dropshot fishing for maximum performance, having the correct rod helps. Same for all techniques.

I wouldn't drop shot with a med heavy so yeah I kinda need a med light so the rod does the work and doesn't break the hook out. Fine tuning gear is how you land more fish. It's October and with 8 Combos alone I've landed over 500 bass not including anything saltwater related.

@@bassinbilliards6279 Obviously rod specs come into play in some situations. Like I use my med-light spinning setup to throw weightless plastics. No way i'm doing that on my med-hvy casting setup. But alot of the time i'll walk to a spot with my 6' med spinning setup and throw everything with no problems. This comment is mostly about the rods saying "drop shot" or "jerk bait" just labeling in general. Making people think they gotta buy shit they dont need lol
