With a turbo that big running at “low” power you’re way better off with an auto. Otherwise the turbo isn’t spoiled that hard to begin with and really falls off quick on the shift. Especially when it’s spinning in 1st so he was trying to short shift so it’d hook. Let’s it hook, but also drops it way off the turbo.

In the movie it was a 355 spider with 380hp. A 600hp Supra was more than enough. There are quite some Best Motoring videos with real races between the F355 and tuned Supras.

it's really interesting how 90% of the time the tuner guys run their cars on 1000+ HP, but exactly when an event is scheduled, they are always down to power with 200-300 HP. I daily drive my A6 at 450hp map, but for events i boost it up all the way to 600, not back it down to 150.

If you want to know more about the F&F Supra, Craig Lieberman (technical advisor for the first two F&F movies) made many great content about it on his channel. It was his own personal Supra that ended up being the orange Supra you see in the movie. I believe a total of 8 Supras were used in the first movie with Craig's personal Supra (designated as HERO 1) being the only one that was actually truly modified and made about 650 hp at the crank. It was mostly used for up close shots etc. There was a HERO 2 car which functioned as a backup for HERO 1 and it's unmodified automatic twin turbo. This one sold not so long ago at Barret Jackson auction for about half a million dollar. HERO 1 was the only manual modified 2JZ-GTE, HERO 2 was unmodified automatic 2JZ-GTE, the rest of the Supras were all unmodified automatic naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE models which were used and abused as stunt cars, buck car (used for green/blue screen shots), MicRig (body shell that sits on a flatbed truck for dialogue shots, the in process car (this is the car you see in Dom's shop that had no engine and the burned out one. Craig Lieberman's HERO 1 Supra I believe was sold to an individual in the Netherlands. Edited for extra and correct information.
