27:25 No. Billy is denying his opponent the honor of drawing first blood. Also, the person who gets hurt first in a fight starts to feel afraid and hesitant from the pain, while the person who drew first blood feels a confidence boost and rush of adrenaline. By hurting himself on purpose but not deeply, Billy won't suffer that loss if the Predator hurts him first.

The Corridor Crew KZbin channel did an experiment with IR cameras and hiding with mud. It worked a lot better than anyone expected. They got within literally about 5 yards of the person hiding among bushes and no one knew he was there. Also, regarding airplanes vs helicopters, airplanes have lots of sleek lines, air foils, aerodynamics. Helicopters fly by literally beating the air into submission.

Took me forever to figure out that Arnold was a "final girl" in this movie. 😮 Predator was a slasher horror, but the killer went after special forces instead of college kids. There's like 4 more predator movies and a number of comic book series for this franchise. Love yall

Yup. The Duffer brothers are huge Predator fans. The name of the town is named after the character of Hawkins and as you already caught , Jim Hopper was taken from this.

I could've sworn they did in THE Predator like...didn't Olivia Munn's character rattle off ancient names people gave them or something like that? To be fair I've seen it once and don't plan on doing so again. In the comics or novels weren't they ALSO called the Hish before they settled on Yautja? But I don't recall if they called THEMSELVES either name as a species or humans called them that.

The actor who played Billy, Sonny Landham, had to have a 6'8" bodyguard follow him 24/7 while filming...not for his protection but to protect people from him. Sonny was notoriously volatile and aggressive and could go off in the blink of an eye. Billy cutting himself before facing Predator was so his enemy couldn't draw first blood on him.

Yeah he was a juicer so had episodes of roid rage. I knew a guy in HS like him. He was a football player and usually a good guy but he could go from laughing at your joke to attacking you in a heartbeat. If I hadn't been (naturally) about twice his size(I was raised on a farm and build muscle easily) I would have never hung out with him. And even then I once had him jump me from behind because he decided he didn't like a joke I had made an hour earlier. I managed to calm him down before things got too bad but only because at heart he thought I was a good guy.

It's so funny you mentioned Peeta not being able to do that make-up by himself. Josh Hutchinson just did an interview talking about how they did the make-up on him and he couldn't see it until after they filmed the scene. He said he thought it was all silly and asked the team, like but how would he be able to do that? And they said he would be able to and he just kept saying, but how though. LOL. He also stands by the fact it was ridiculous and there's just no way Peeta could have done that. 🤣

Fun fact, that's not a laser, it's plasma. The stuff the sun is made out of. The weapon is even officially called a Plasma Caster. The Terminator's energy weapons in the future are also plasma weapons. The chest being blown out of the guy is realistically what would happen if your stomach is hit (stomach is higher inside the body than people think), as the stomach acid would flash boil and cause a steam explosion.

The first Predator is a cheesy over-the-top 80s action film that gets creeped up on by a horror movie, while the sequel is a 90s hard-boiled Lethal Weapon film creeped up on by a horror movie. They really should have kept that energy going.

The making of this film was wild. My favorite behind-the-scenes factoid is that the actor who played Billy (Sony Landham) was so temperamental that the producers had to hire a bodyguard to protect the crew from Landham himself.

So happy you enjoyed this movie. Hope you guys do Preditor 2, it adds to the lore and stars Danny Glover! Shane Black (played Hawkins AKA p*$$y joke guy) ended up directing The Preditor in 2018. At the end the Preditor laughs using Billy's laugh. I believe that the Preditor blows himself up at the end, not to kill Dutch but to make sure that their weapons/tech doesn't get taken by their prey.

The original monster had knees that bent backwards and was worn by a man who had to be suspended from wires, which was impossible in the Jungle. So Stan Winston had to make the new suit in only 6 weeks. Jean Claude Van Damme was the original monster but was fired after he refused to stop kicking things. He was replaced by a 7 foot 4 inch tall dude who also played bigfoot in Harry and the Hendersons. He is the helicopter pilot at the end of the movie. James Cameron suggested that the Predator have mandibles.

Loose or not, a belt transmission works like this. The cylinders on which the belt is running are thicker in the middle and get thinner towards the edges. That makes the belt always stay in the middle. It is known since ancient times. You're welcome! 🙂

I'm so glad y'all watched Predator! I definitely recommend 2, it's wild. AvP is a fun time with a good cast, unfortunately AvP 2 is brought down by a lackluster human cast and very poor contrast but it has my all time favorite Predator. Predators is also a pretty good watch. We don't talk about the 2018 movie.

LOVe this. But whenever I watch Predator I have to go watch “predator: the musical”. The behind-the-scenes stories from Filming are so great. The men put so much effort into out-muscling each other and prancing each other. There’s a lot of neat discussion about the end - the predator using Billy’s laughter while arming his self-destruct. Is it a last “f you” or is it him signaling respect as he’s taken out as a warrior? Clearly he wanted Arnold to do it, a warriors death delivered by someone he saw as a worthy opponent. When Arnold hesitated (out of pity?) it highlights humanity vs hunter, despite what he’s gone thru.

If you guys like this film I would recommend you watching “Prey” from 2022 it has Native Americans and French voyages going up against a predator it’s really cool. Another predator film I’d say is worth checking out is “Predators” from 2010, a bunch of mercenaries are abducted and dropped on an alien planet being used as a game preserve by the predators 😂 a fun watch for sure, also their species are called “Yautja” (pronounced Ya-oot-chah)

So remember how ridiculous it seemed that everyone blasted away into the forest when Blaine's chest was exfoliated (wasting ammo, etc)? Then, at the end the Predator did the same thing by blindly firing into the treetops (wasting ammo and giving away his position) in a spectacular display trying to kill 'whatever' hit him. Symbolism.
