My husband and I were blessed with 40 years and we were looking forward to celebrating our 50th, but the good Lord called him home in 2014. The part where you were holding your baby and singing brought back memories of me with my 2 when they were babies (they are both grandparents now, lol). The lullaby was a brilliant way to properly set the pacing for this song. Judging by the covers, I seem to be in the minority thinking this needs to be on the slightly slower than usual side. More airy. Dreamy. And while the accompaniment is good, it comes across as a bit heavy handed and loud when paired with these vocals.

I'm not going to lie, my heart sank when i saw the announcement for this song. I have hated this song with a passion for so long now. It is at the core of an extremely stressful time in my life and some particularly traumatising music lessons at school (ages about 14). In hindsight... Autism is a thing 🤦🏻‍♀️ but we didnt know that then. The sounds and loud students and shouty teacher... And being forced... Literally dragged to stand up in front of the class to sing this song with a couple of equally terrified people. I would literally have rather died than been right there, in front of a class of people who.already bullied me mercilessly and didnt need more ammo... Not sure if i was going to faint or cry, too scared to do anything because of my fear of authority... I was paralysed. Until something just clicked in me, i relaxed, i felt completely numb and i just walked back to my seat got my bag and walked out of the classroom, went to the office and said id been sick and wanted to go home and i clearly looked the part so they called my mum to come get me. I never participated in another music lesson, the teacher tried for ages but i could t even look ber in the eye, no emotions any more, wouldnt do anything. Ultimately she agreed that i was there for registration and then she would unlock one of the small recording studios and i was allowed to sit in there and read... There was peace in the soundproof room, there were beanbags and i had books. But that song has haunted me for about two decades and makes me feel physically sick and weirdly angry when i hear it... So i didnt plan to listen but how could i not at least try? I listened and watched and by the time the video ended... I.realised i had tears streaming down my face. I feel... Real relief? I think the combination of it being the pair of you singing (i so love to listen to your music! It means a lot to me)... And the fact that it sounded different and about a million times better than the original... Allowed to not just listen to and enjoy your new song... But to also let go of the hurt ive unknowingly been carrying linked to this song. Now i just feel so relieved and like i need.to listen to the song oat least once more before i try to sleep (late here in the UK 😂). Sorry for waffling, i always find it helps to process my thoughts by writing it down and making it real. Your cover of this song is stunning to listen to and the video is stunning to watch, very well thought out and beautifully executed.
