I had one of those when they were new. It was my most favorite ball EVER. I was night manager at a bowling center and the lane guy told me it left black marks on the lanes. But this was pre-synthetic lanes. Had my highest average and highest scores with the LT48. Also insert were relatively new and I didn’t use them. This was by far the easiest ball to hold because of the texture of the core.

Back in the day, the Yellow Dot hooked. It was the original soaker ball in the 70s. However you have a second generation Yellow Dot (the originals did not have that logo on the side) and they were not nearly as good. The LT-48 hooked more, but the core was sometimes difficult to get used to before the days of thumb sleeves. Also, you could wear a track in the rubber ball if it was your only ball.
@ripvanrevs

I threw the LT-48 when I was in high school. Dad had the Yellow dot around that time. I am throwing thumb out and just had the thumb plugged in a white dot so I can throw it rather than buying a new plastic ball.

Right, sometimes the 2nd generation isn't as good as the first. I loved the original Cuda/C Pearl, 2nd generation came out in 2000 with the Cuda/C 2000. I had a Pro Shop and my Distributor comped me and my assistant a Ball and it was nothing like the original. I don't bowl anymore so I haven't tried the 3rd generation.

My sense of how much i should pay for a bowling ball was already messed up in the first place, because i live in Malaysia the cost for bowling is 4x more when compared to the US. Im working as a fresh grad design engineer, with around 48k MYR per year, in the US with the same job is $48k per year too, so its pretty much a 1 to 1 comparison in salary. But 1USD = ~4MYR, so a $300 bowling ball is equivalent to $1200 in Malaysia, even my Rhino Magenta cost me MYR 700(including the drill and inserts) i love the sport and im lucky to be educated enough to earn enough money and play in the sport so im happy with what i have now 👍

The most I'll ever spend on a ball is going to depend on my skill level, the performance attributes of the ball in question, and my needs regarding any gaps in my arsenal. Right now, I wouldn't go over around $150. As I get good enough to use better balls, that price ceiling will increase accordingly.
@GarageSaleMonster

@@GarageSaleMonster at the moment, yes. I don't yet have the skill needed to make effective use of a $250 ball. However, the three balls would each behave differently and be used in different conditions. So I'd really be buying 3 $150 balls instead of 3 $250 balls.
@notonyourlife7939
@notonyourlife7939 Жыл бұрын
Well its not really about your skill level, or whatever your average happens to be... just because Bowler A is "better" than Bowler B, that doesn't mean that he "needs", or will automatically benefit from more exspensive equipment. In fact, it can just as easily be the opposite. The type of physical game you have and the conditions you bowl on are of far greater significance... particularly your rev rate and ball speed. The "top shelf"/ high price balls tend to be the stronger core/cover pieces on the market... and depending on your game, those might never be the best choices for you, no matter what your average is. I'm a low/mid rev guy 300, maybe 325 rpm if I really hit it at the bottom, with ball speed around 17 mph, currently averaging ~225 on house shots. The strongest and most expensive stuff on the shelf is generally too strong for the conditions I bowl on most of the time... the solids burn up too early and flat-10, and the shinier strong stuff is usually too over/under. They're just not the best choices for my game... so I don't buy 'em. Use what works...
