Being more of a rifle hunter myself I wish THP would do more videos like this where they hunt with the type of rifles the rest of us hunt with. Glad that Greg chose the classic time tested .30-06 instead of some of these new cartridges that seem to be coming out every week. These new cartridges won't kill a deer any deader than the good old .30-06. I think this video proves that hunting with a rifle at distances over 100 yards isn't always a slam dunk. In my personal opinion I think it's easier to become proficient shooting a bow up to 40 yards than it is shooting accurately in field positions with a rifle, especially when you are shooting at 100 plus yards. I know it can be a different ballgame shooting at game with a bow than it is shooting at targets but in general I think it's a greater challenge to become a consistent, proficient rifle shot.
@tylerherrman9569Ай бұрын
It makes sense that you, as a rifle hunter, say rifle hunting is harder than bow hunting. My wife was smacking targets consistently at 600 yards her first ever time shooting a rifle, while it took her 7-10 sessions with a bow to become consistent. 30-06 is an outdated caliber that doesn’t really have a place in the field anymore. .308 and 6.5 do everything a 30-06 does, but better. Cheaper, lighter weight, less recoil, and more ammo choices.
@SL-sy8ixАй бұрын
@@tylerherrman9569 No, I did not say that rifle hunting is harder than bow hunting. Only that being consistent and proficient with a rifle will take more time in my opinion. I don't think you will convince very many that the .30-06 doesn't have a place in the field anymore. That's a bit ridiculous. Hunters will continue to put game down with it long after many of these PRC and Creedmore cartridges fade away to history.
@KyleC0430Ай бұрын
@@SL-sy8ixnow I am a gun hunter also ! I do both try to bow hunt as much as possible as a lot of my permission pieces are bow only but nothing in this world is easier than grabbing my rifle from 20 to 200 !! Nothing ! I practice all the time and very proficient with both but there are many times had I had the rifle would have been more comfortable and got the bucks ! It’s way harder with bow 40 or less even as much as we practice ! The understand what you are trying to say but I’m way more efficient with that gun no matter what ! Funny I should grab the bow each time for home farm but when the buck I’m after now say I still try to grab that rifle because I know no matter what if he shows this evening his butt is mine !!
@usa-rb5fiАй бұрын
6.5 and .308 DO NOT have more ammo choices than .30-06. Also .30-06 is an old caliber, but still has a place in modern day hunting. Also cheaper ammo is debatable.

Awesome video as always! I moved from the .30-06 to the .308 about 9 years ago. What a difference there is. I guess just the lower recoil, but I can reach out WAY farther with WAY better accuracy with the .308. The .30-06 is still a good round.
