I met Guthrie at one of those Hans Zimmer gigs. I was hired to play cello in the orchestra. Guthrie was very patient with me as I babbled on to him about ridiculous things. Such a classy, intelligent guy. That concert was a highlight for my career, made better by meeting one of my internet heroes.

Well he basically made connections in his brain as a kid that adults don't have enough time to make. It's like those ice skaters. You can always start and become insanely good but to those who started very early it's like walking. They just do it.

What an excellent interview ! I met Guthrie at a Richie Kotzen gig in Pisa, and he was sipping on a Kilkenny Strong I think. Funny and very humble guy !

ear training is truly underrated. So many guitarists today have incredible technique but no soul or creativity.

Not my impression. Guthrie is young. He's not a boomer. He is a guitarist of today by definition.

You can't be musical without a decent musical ear. Guitar players often forget that it's not about playing the guitar, it's about playing music with the help of a guitar.

He's so modest, many years ago he used to transcribe for Guitar Techniques magazine. It wasn't just the accurate tab that was impressive it was also that he could play all of them flawless at the correct tempos as well.

Thanks for uploading this clip, I have heard Guthrie talk about his beginnings in a similar way at many of his clinics. Its always inspiring to hear his story and his very natural approach to music, there's always so much to learn from him. He has to be one of the finest guitarists of our time.

Guys, can I translate your video into Russian and leave the links to your channel? You create really stunning content, I wish more people knew Guthrie's thoughts regarding many issues in music.
