Credit to you Charlie, the advice is spot on from the 1st June to as late as October (weather depending) I always use top water baits it’s not only a very effective way to fish it’s exciting and it allows you to read the water better in my opinion because you can see what’s going I.e. follows. My go to bait is a KVD sexy dawg to find the fish (walk-the-dog) and then use a popper to clean up in that particular area like the Rap skitter pop (field mouse always kills it for me). Had a few on headbanger last week heart lure one of my confidence baits got a pompadour coming on slow boat, interesting you say they have to be in the mood for that one hopefully not wasted my money lol enjoyable watch we all have sessions like that

Cool video mate . I can’t seem to catch at the moment on my canal had 2 failures in a row . 1 time when t in with crank baits then 2 time went in with a Texas rig which only 2 time trying it caught nothing moved to a shade went don’t from a 5g to a small 2g shade had bites but nothing seemed to really eat the lure don’t know what I am doing wrong. Cuz I always catch if I go in with just a float rod and bait maggot help pls lol 😂

I fish topwater..ALOT. And i catch alot.like anything fishing,there is no right or wrong. We all have our own styles, and anything can work at any time. But here are some tips for anyone who wants to catch or increase their catch rate off the surface.1. For pike use something larger such as 12cm upwards. Anything smaller will just attract cucumbers on the whole. A larger lure is often the stimulus for a pike to move. They like value for money! With retrieve go slow and steady with pauses and plops along the way. Pike are pretty lazy and if a lure goes over their heads too quick they are prone to not bother. If they miss just stop the lure immediately. Count to 10 and begin to slow retreive..it works most times.The most important point from me is fish topwater in the dark! Dusk in to dark or dark into dawn...pike love topwater in the dark!! It's also when they come closer to shore and in to shallow water...meaning you'll have a greater audience. As for lures...try floating plugs/cranks. Traditional topwaters have all kinds of appendages that reduce casting distance. Also the hooks tend to be on the underside, which leads to poor hookups. A plug/crank has a clear hook at the back which very rarely misses. Me? I've had 19 fish on topwater so far. 1st in April. Best 2 fish 115.5cm just shy of 25lb and 114cm!
