there is a story to all of the layers. the infected depths were caused by the scientists in its civilization, they accidentally released barnacles into the depths, and they took over.

Hving a handfull of prehistoric sea creatures as the bosses of the prehistoric waters and be randomized, like one run you could fight the sleepy giant and in your second run you could fight a Mosasaurus, all of that would have been super cool.

you CAN kill it, doing enough damage splits it into smaller versions, those smaller versions split again then you can kill but it normally takes too long its not worth the time, especially since it spawns shortly after anyways

you can kill the time devourer, but it just splits into 4 smaller ones that deal the same amount of damage alot faster and they move a hellova lot faster.

it appears after youve gone through the time portal after 4th level, the time devourer is killable from what ive experienced but it takes awhile as it splits into smaller versions so its never worth trying to kill lol, it just spawns shortly after death anyways

By the way, the 2nd biggest fish is called a Dunkleosteus that existed during the late Devonian period, technically prehistoric but not Jurassic or even Cambrian. They can grow up to 20 feet in length, almost as big as I am.
