I wish the game's primary ending was this bad ending that the vast majority of players would get, but if you did some really specific things that only the most keen players would catch (probably equipped with remarkably esoteric knowledge), that through great difficulty you could unlock a good ending. Although making it so difficult and pretty vague that it could take everyone playing it possibly a year or longer to discover how to get the good ending. Wish that were the case.

Seems something went very wrong with the ascension part. Either the accident (the liquid seems to be used to let the higher "elites" to mutate to their ascended form?) mutated an "unclean" specimen. When you aquire your keymechanism, that one seems to be one of the pure "elite" caste who is purosed to ascend in some sort of ritual (he even got the third eye as depicted on the murals). Either you are just a "worker caste" or the natural way the scorn people are born after a huge amount of time of evolutionary engineering. And they refined that process further to create the perfect specimen, to improve themselves and breed in that pod machine. Like if only a pure perfect specimen can mutate the right way to become the perfect form and ascend further. My guess here is that the "natural" born not so perfect Scornguy just attemped the same procedure to get out of his misery. While the first one got caught in the accident a long(er) time ago, mutated to an unperfect ascended form. Searching a vessel. In the book it is mentioned they fuse with a shell and the shell becomes their (the ascended forms) new body. So it could be that Scornguy2 is seen as vessel for that accidentally created "ascended" (unperfect) form of Scornguy1. That's why he could be driven to fuse with him in the end as we've seen. It may be just a step in between as well, before the full "perfect" (but for natural born Scornguys deformed) form. And in the end, where they fused together, Scornguy1 resembles even more the descriptions in the Book. But just deformed by his not so perfect DNA eventually. In the end Scornguy2, who also attempted to reach another new way of ascension (maybe the door was a further developement of ascending of the elite caste, while the "parasite" form was a predecessor to that. Another way to get closer to the perfect form to ascend into a new plane of consciousness.), got interrupted by Scornguy1, who attempted the "old" way. The race of Scorn, these "humans" lived for driving their consciousness to next levels. To perfect "humanity" further. That's why Polis (the Tempelcity) is full of sculptures in explicit poses. Because feelings and emotions in that state was seen as one of the highest states of consciousness humans can achieve in their normal bodies. They where also obsessed with birth, some sort of ascending of a living being into the world. So it could be that Scornguy1 and Scornguy2 wanted to reach total different goals at all. The timespan is not told between Scornguy1s attempt and Scorngu2s attempt. Maybe the "parasite" form as mentioned in the books was a different "inbetween" step to the door ascension itself. Or the door was a new, improved or the "real deal" of ascension. While the parasite form "just" was a way to improve your own consiousness between your own bodies possibilities. Scornguy1 just stumbled into that part when the accident happened and an "instinct" like urge developed to fuse with a "shell", unfortunately for Scornguy2. Well, hope the grammer isn't that bad while english isn't native to me. :D

Here's my theory the females had died out and the remaining males considered them sacred and put a lot of importance towards them and reproduction, based on the final area's statues and architecture. It's possible, but I could be wrong, that the six-armed machine that was "cutting up" Scorn guy 2, is preparing his body to become a "mother" (a pregnant shell) considering how the machine is only cutting up their abdomen area. Now here me out, in the artbooks it stated that the "Homunculi" were engineered to be made of psychedelic materials, used to power the "pregnant shells" and they are smart enough to create "cyborgs" by using dead bodies. Now my theory is, the Scorn guys's species are advanced enough, since they were the ones who created the "Homunculi," to create "surrogates" by using dead body parts, from those who were "sacrificed" by the same ritual that Scorn guy 2, along with the others that are found in that area, had went through, the "sucking machine" was collecting what would be his last "genetic material" that will processed to be used for creating more members of his species. And it may or may not be the liquid that turned Scorn Guy 1 into the parasite. My other theory is that the Parasite (Scorn Guy 1) is compelled to bond with a host, but because Scorn Guy 1 is "underdeveloped" compared to the "Elites" it's possible that the Parasite is trying to become a something similar to the "Crater Queen," and eventually becoming a new "Genesis Wall." At the end, the parasite has grown tremendously and anchored itself to the ground with no hope of ever moving again, much like the Crater Queen, and she and the creatures in the game, has similar characteristics to the Genesis Wall since they both create new life (though "underdeveloped") and the Wall is made entirely of flesh packed together, much like how the environment is where the creatures are "born" from, and they share the same "pale, rotting" look as pointed out by IGP when showing the Wall.

@dynamicdragoness2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I automatically assumed Scornguy1 was not in control when he became a parasite. However, If that were the case, who would be the one in control? In actuality, Scornguy1 had the same mission, just a different form. Because in a world where sympathy and human morals seem to be bred out of the species, I doubt Scornguy1 gave two cares about Scornguy2’s objective.

i don't know if anyone else noticed this but those statues at 20:14 look a lot like the crater queen, especially with those long, droopy necks and lanky limbs. also, the statues at 14:40 being obviously pregnant women and the one at 14:05 having clear phallic imagery really imply this concept of birth, and how ascension is essentially like a second birth, right down to the gate at the end heavily resembling the female reproductive system. i also noticed that certain places look a lot cleaner, while still keeping a biomechanical look that reminds me of the matrix. obviously there are some areas of the game where this is not the case, leading me to agree with him that the humans were breeding each other too quickly at an ascended level (if this is earth, scornguys aren't normal humans- they've already progressed through some parts of the process) and some form of virus or std was released, mutating everything into the blood and gore we see in the game. i don't believe it was always like that. but keeping with these themes of birth, and right down to scornguy's failure to make it through the gate, i ultimately think its meant to symbolize a miscarriage. the c-section imagery, the scoop or saw puzzle, everything leads me to believe that its not just mindless gore, but a lesson to make sure you're ready to bear a child, because the results if it goes wrong are catastrophic. a minor side note, but during the second operation scene (16:09), a tube attaches to his reproductive organ, which leads me to believe they were harvesting some sort of ascended sperm that can fertilize something else, like the parasite when scornguy 1 dies after the cannister of it falls on him and exposes him. i don't know if any of this actually made sense, but i had several epiphanies at once, and this game has done things to me lol

@SatyrToon Жыл бұрын
@@BattleBladeWarrior It IS super bleak, I'll give them that. Personally, I see Scorn as more of an interactive art piece rather than a full-fledged video game. It's really pretty in a macabre sort of way but I didn't exactly enjoy it as a game - especially since the story is revealed by reading the ART BOOK ( an outside piece of media) which is textbook "Don't tell your story this way."
@BattleBladeWarrior Жыл бұрын
@@SatyrToon yea that's understandable. I'm actually rather surprised they did that. Being that the game did indeed play more like an art piece, I'd have expected them to leave the storyline as vague as possible, (as far as the artbook goes) so each person comes up with what it all means, similar to the way different people might view the same painting, but all find a different meaning from it.

1:46 I felt so bad, in the game whenever your brining them to be freed, they seemed much more calmer. And when seeing the player, they seemed to calm down as well. Plus its just adorable how they follows after the player even when the player is just using them to open doors they still follow after, and its heartbreaking seeing them just standing there, staring at the door where the player went while just waiting. Most definitely waiting for the player to come back or possibly the door open so they can follow after.

there's has been another theory that the parasite and the main character are originally born as one, they are a 2 faced species (front and back). You can see this reference in the game and the art book. they were somehow separated, and then the main character was "reborn" from the wall alone. the parasite is actually following its instinct to meld with the main character again. and this story is likely about about this spices is trying to abandon their physical body and ascent to a higher level (via hive mind or something) but the main character failed in the end

Exactly, is not exactly bad but half-assed. Like when they were done with their overloaded body horror aesthetics they lost interest on everything else and they left it half way.
@pugsleymcpuggington61610 ай бұрын
@@Asterion608 I think you discredit the devs very much by telling the game "half-assed" and assume the devs "lost interest". It's more like they had a vision that unfortunatley in the end was simply far too big for them to make it real. You have to take into account that Scorn is far from an AAA-Title, development startet with a team of only 4(!) people back in 2016. Honestly, I'm quite surprised that Scorn was released at all instead of being abandoned at some point AND all in all is a good game. Of course, it's noticable all throughout the game that the devs had something way bigger in mind and were forced to massively cut down on content. That's unfortunate, but a small team can't work on a game like this forever, it has to be finished eventually. I think, when the devs had to decide what to concentrate and spend their limited time and resources on, they prioritized the aesthetics and atmosphere as these the game's main selling points, which let the actual gameplay fall flat somehow. But I think this was the right choice. The gameplay is mediocre, yes, but really - I don't play Scorn for the gameplay-mechanics anyway. In the end, Scorn isn't perfect, but if you want to blame the devs for something, than that they hoped to achieve more than was realistically possible. And you have to give them credit that they still made a unique game, and I'm very, very glad Scorn became reality and didn't end up as one of those many, many game projects that "would have been amazing" but are never finished.
