Graduated in 1993. I've got two projects a 1983 convertable and a 1990 hatch with sun roof. And yes I'm an established guy who loved these cars growing up. But I chose to build mine as I've also always been a car guy that builds my own stuff. Means a hell of alot more to buy a solid car and build the car i could only dream of when i was young and didnt have the bank account i now have. Matter fact the 83 is a low miles glx thats spent most its life in a garage. It has 90 thousand miles on it thats not as low as your two but still low miles for a car that old. Ive got new carpet and since I can't find the white interior seats and door panels im sending all the covered interior to a upholstery shop for recover. The plastic all still looks new. The paint is going to be artic white bc the factory white was not that bright. When im done with the car as far as looks the 3.8 v6 is gone and a stock bottom end 5.0 is going in and it will look factory down to the dual snorkel 5.0 carb air cleaner. It will have black hood stripe but will say glx im not trying to make it a gt it is what it is. Thats the date nite with the wife car. The 90 is going to be my everything I ever wanted car. Down to the supercharged 347 stroker. With ram air stormin normin hood. Im glad to see these cars getting their just due but realistically they have always had a cult following since they were building them till now. Its funny how back in the day the classic mustang guys hated them said they weren't real mustangs. Then the highschool kids and young 20 somethings got into them and the aftermarket blew up. These cars were the reason the aftermarket is so big now it started with bolt on 5.0 parts. The cars all the sudden had over shadowed the iconic mustang name. People were not calling them mustangs they called them 5point0s. Ford absolutely 💯 hated the car for that reason they were making bank off them but at same time hated it had became something beyond the beloved mustang name. Thats why in 94 when the sn95 came out even though it had the 5.0 it didn't have the 5.0 badge. They were trying to separate the mustang from the badge and name 5point0. Fast forward to 2011 and what does ford do? They capitalize on that very name and badge that over shadowed the mustang name sake. And in the end those of us true blue 79 to 93 mustang guys lost that very name we started so long ago bc now ford had used our badge on a new engine and our 5point0s became foxbodys. Since most people call the new ones coyote anyway can us gen xers have our damn 5point0 back plz. Its never made since to me to call them fox body when the body is not fox the platform is fox and that includes fairmonts some t birds even some granadas. And their merc counterparts.

I've had mine since 1991 and I will never sale my 87 GT. It's not about keeping it because possibly the prices will continue to rise on them and I could care less whether the prices go up or down but to me it's about loving these cars. I street raced the hell out of mine all through the 90's up until 2003 when the ricers killed the street races here in Dallas Texas. Mine has seen many combos throughout the years and I've owned many other foxbodies but this one for some reason I kept it probably more because of sentimental reasons and currently it's sitting in storage with the front bumper off but it's safe and I know it's still mine and survived many 10 second passes throughout the years. I still have all the original racing parts that were popular back in the 90's like the old Pro M 77mm Mass air meter, GT40 tubular intake and the KPI Will burt prepared trick flow street heat heads, Wolverine 1087 camshaft along with a B cam and X cam, SX Performance External Fuel pump and filter and the Old Mac headers and throttle bodies. I also kept every MM&FF magazine from issue#1 till the last issue. Throughout the years I've had all kind of offers for these Old nostalgic parts but to me it's been my life and will never sale them. I miss the days when at every stop light you would see a foxbody and they were everywhere now the Dodge Charrgers seem to be what the old foxbodies were.

I feel like foxbody fandom today has turned the foxbodies into something they weren’t necessarily back in the day. I was in my early 20s working at a Ford dealership shop in the early 90s. So many people making the cobra look-alikes these days. You rarely EVER saw a cobra back in the day- I maybe saw 3, and worked at a dealership. Back then the conversion people did was 4-eye to the aero style lights and quarter windows. Everyone on KZbin today worshiping the “notch” (and no one I knew said notch either). These too were rare, mostly we saw and had the hatchback GTs. They had the reputation back then of being super tough- you could have these cars owned by young guys that ran them hard and put them away wet- yet they’d be no worse for wear. I wouldn’t say they were perfect bodywork wise stock- most had a ripple on the c pillar. Finally- if you said Windsor motor, people would think you were talking about the 5.8. When the 4.6 “modular” engine came out- we all just called the pushrod v8’s the “5.0”. Not trying to sound like a know it all at all, just saying - it’s funny and really cool that these cars are popular again, but I feel like they’re appreciated slightly different now than how they used to be

The notch cars have never been more popular than they are now. They were not no where near this popular when these cars were new. Only certain people including myself liked notches. Most back in the day either what an LX or GT hatchback. Plus back when they were new the notch was the cheaper option. I've seen them go for as low as $12,000.00 brand new. They were hard for dealerships to move due to lack cargo capacity compared to the hatches(grocery shopping with a notch really sucks, been there done that) That was important to car buyers back when these cars were daily driven and not put on pedistles like nowadays. As far as convertibles go mostly old people bought the convertibles. Also do not daily drive a really nice fox. If you do it will get stolen!! One of the hastles of foxbody ownership! I'll also add the the 4eye fox cars have shot up ridiculously the past I'd say 3 years! especially the 83- 86 GT and also the few LX V8 cars of that era. Also the Capri is pretty much like the white rino of the group. They are very rare now and when one pop's up the cost is HIGH!

People could change all these beyond overpriced prices if they would just stick together. I already know it will never happen but it’s a easy fix. STOP BUYING THEM. The only way I would buy these two Mustangs as for as price goes is 10,000 for both cars. Same thing with new cars, I don’t care if it’s a 2021 GT 500. I do not see a 100,000 dollar car there. 40,000 tops. A regular 5.0 , 21999 max. F150’s for 50,000, it’s unbelievable. It’s just a truck. A regular cab 4x4 should be at the very most off the lot 25,000. All of this is just my own opinion and I apologize to anyone I upset. I’m mad and no I can’t afford to even buy a new strip down truck. I’m mad bc I’m a blue collar worker , college did not help me get a better job so I’m proud of my bc job but what makes me so angry is that even with a job that pays pretty good I can’t buy a new truck. So my 90' LX hatchback 5.0 5spd, is all original with 140K. But the factory paint is 8/10, single stage has burned thru on a few edges from buffing. I was thinking of repainting but after this, might change my mind. If I do repaint would you recommend original single stage or base clear? To me base clear is a no brainer, but would that hurt the price?
@thomhagan82974 жыл бұрын
The newer single stage urethane primers and top coats are super durable especially for a garaged cruiser. At least they were even 20yrs ago, I'm not up to date on the 2020's new low VOC/water based paints but there is something to be said about not having a ton of thick glossy paint on a car...it can dull the sharp factory body lines if that makes sense. If it's 8/10 perhaps just painting panels that need it would be an option -with a good color match.

Imo,foxes are up cause there aren't any other pony cars out there in that 85-93 year range,dodge didnt even have a pony car,and chevy iroc are non existence at this point,or very low #'s at the best,so foxes are pretty much your only option and a clean not raced and not rusted out with working a/c and heat are very rare in 2020,and thank god i got my rare fox in 2020
