It is astonishing that such a place can still exist in the 21st century, especially in the US. The US really need to do something about their prison system. It is atrocious, and the recidivism rate is much too high. But I guess that is what you can expect from a country that is controlled by the 1%.

Kalief Browder: accused of stealing a backpack at night by a person of Indian/Middle Eastern descent who had shoddy vision and was inconsistent whenever questioned. He was locked up in 2010 at Riker's Island, spent three years in holding without trial (3/4 of which was in solitary confinement), and was eventually released without restitution or acknowledgement of wrongful imprisonment. He developed schizophrenic characteristics, and roughly two years after his release, he took his own life. The paranoia and isolation drove him insane. He was 17 when he went in.

Poor horrible criminals. Only in the US are criminals treated like children and the true victims (theirs) are ignored. "Who cares what they did!? They shouldn't be treated like the garbage they are!" Solution: Violent crimes get you the death penalty and not 20 years worth of appeals either. Taken out back the following week.

Also….. Rikers isn’t a prison it’s jail meaning people are being held there just for trial or awaiting other things so people in there are also innocent these are not all convicted or people so while waiting to get out during your trial you will be fighting for your life.
