It is though, one person or a group can't escape. It took 38 men all highly organized with an entire chain of command and military-esque operations to escape. For an analogy, an M1 Abrams tank can sustain heavy machine gun fire, maybe even an RPG, but not a hydrogen bomb. Everything has its limits, this isn't a normal circumstance/scenario.

So you can imagine once the news got out of their escape, it made the british look bad and give the IRA a confidence boost and also probably encited people to join the cause
