That's based on Yossi Ghinsberg's trip in 1981, long before Davey went. Also two different countries. Yossi was Bolivia, Davey Peru. Davey on the Amazon River, Yossi on one of the many tributaries that lead to the Amazon River itself. Similar stories of being lost in the jungles of the Amazon region, but different. Though to be fair, people who are lost in the Amazon, those who never come back, I suspect their stories are a lot like either of the two above, these are only the ones who survived to tell what happened. I imagine those who never came back reached the end that these two didn't but almost did.

Think most of us are just "giving guff" about it due to how it's so very, very uncommon/ unlikely. *My personal opinion* is, that's odd for an lowly River Pirate to have a weapon so rare/valuable.
