@@genehunsinger3981 It’s funny, “welp” started for me like 6 years ago as one of those words that I was using kinda of ironically, like half making fun of it. It seems after a few years I sorta just started using it for real. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But tell your wife, any word is a word when is used by others and the listeners understand the meaning. Every year new words get added to the dictionary, so if she determines a word as only being valid if it’s in the dictionary then there are tons of words that weren’t words one day, and the very next day, boom! It’s a word. I could throw in a little “gotcha” for you to pose to her. Every year there are also words removed from the dictionary, so are those suddenly NOT words now? Just something interesting to think about. You can probably tell I have some strong thoughts on language. And I also enjoy playing with it in unconventional ways, like changing past tense words in opposite ways. Like lent becomes lended, thought becomes thunk, or dreamed/dreamt (both currently valid as we are in a active transition from the old way to the new) becomes dreameded. I also like to keep the basic conjugation rules that a new English speaker would probably use or kids, like when they start to catch on the added ED makes a word past tense, so like “I goed to the store” instead of “went”. (Admittedly, these are kind of lame examples and I’ve probably ever only used one or 2 of them, they just come naturally to me in conversation. Making up direct examples is actually suddenly a bit hard, but I’m sure you get the picture) Oh! Wait! My favorite one I actually have used for years “differenter”. It means beyond different, even more different than would be expected. So far no one has failed to grasp the meaning when used in normal speech, but of course, I do get comments on my odd words. (But I always know there’s a time and a place for such language play) You’re welcome for a WHOLE bunch of stuff you never asked for 😉 Cheers!
