@mikafor
@mikafor 4 жыл бұрын
Don't forget the logistics of it. Why send you drones when they can just send a 3d printer and materials to make drones? Oh right, that's be heavier and more time consuming than just sending the actual drones. I'm also pretty sure it'd take some time to make the drones and let's not even ask how they're going to power the 3d printers.
@mikafor
@mikafor 4 жыл бұрын
@Butter Brickle my point was it would be cheaper to print the drones before hand and issue them as needed for an operation. This plan was thought out by people in suits, and they probably never had their own boots on the ground in that situation. Not to mention, printing several drones might take a long time. That's time you're in the field waiting for equipment to be viable versus having it on hand as soon as you hop off the chopper.
@Thebloodylies
@Thebloodylies 4 жыл бұрын
@Butter Brickle Sorry dude, but the brass at the pentagon don't know what they are doing in regards to modern warfare or where its going. Not that it matters however, as their focus is getting all the funding they can, getting their friends hooked up with nice military contracts, and getting a nice advisory job after retirement. There is infinitely more profit in long protracted conflicts.
@boxedferrotinc2290
@boxedferrotinc2290 4 жыл бұрын
mikafor 3D printers don’t only produce drones. That’s why they are more advantageous than just sending the supplies directly. It allows the units to be autonomous allowing higher ranking officers to focus elsewhere and doesn’t clog up the US logistical machine. Units are also more versatile because no plan ever goes to plan so the 3D printer allows them to change the plan as it is executed.
@gymarion9565
@gymarion9565 4 жыл бұрын
Butter Brickle the 3D printer is used to adapt in situations as instead of sending tons of ammunition and drones that marines have to carry around that may or may not help. With a printer it can create exactly what they want when they want it and the direct amount Saving unnecessary materials and time

3D printing has gone a really long way. There are 3D printers that print with materials other than flimsy plastic. Some 3D printers made for facory use can use metal, or higher quality plastics, like the ones used for guns, to print stuff with. For example, auto manufacturers can use those to make parts for legacy models instead of keeping around all the machines to make it the old fasioned way. This allows them to retool and use those machines for the newer models that require a much higher quantity of parts made. Basically instead of running the machines they used to build the cars when they came out, they can use 3D printers for spare service sparts and use the heavy tooling on their newer cars.
@everlett1122
@everlett1122 4 жыл бұрын
@@maracaman1 as much as the tech has improved its no where near the imagination of this video now or in 5 years. 3D printing is a very slow process. 3d printing an entire drone is hellah work and many parts still need to be made in a traditional method and then there is wiring and circuit boards pistons ect. Why would you try and make all that on the battlefield and not just bring it with you... 3d printing is not a star-trek replicator.
@everlett1122
@everlett1122 4 жыл бұрын
@midgetydeath its possible to print some of these things for sure but how long will that take? Were talking about a variety of materials and these things are for combat and need to be strong enough for that. 3d printing in this context does not make sense. Further more all these parts would need to be assembled you cant 3d print them all in place, it does not work like that. This is total nonsense drones/explosives may be produced by 3d printers just not on a battlefield they will be made in a factory and shipped to that battlefield. My point is not that these things aren't possible but the tech is not magic like ppl pretend.

I thought the same thing, I mean, its one thing printing the casing and body/structure. But you also need batteries, motherboard and processors, optics, rotors, receivers, so much more. haha, would be extremely hard to just "print" Maybe printed separately and then assembled, but that's big maybe as these technologies are microscopic, so the printer would need very fine and expensive tools.

And no, the military is not using secret "50 years more advanced" factories than the rest of us... rather the opposite as their development projects tend to go on for so long that the weapons of tomorrow are built in the factory of yesterday, finehoning the technology THEN used in the civil sector industry of today.
