A few thoughts - First, as this video acknowledges, China's Navy has extremely limited "blue water" capabilities. Second, the US has numerous well equipped allies and strategic partners, significantly multiplying their force capabilities. China's major allies are North Korea, Iran and maybe Pakistan. Third, the US Navy's capabilities would be augmented by the largest, most capable Air Force, Army, Marines and let's not forget Space Force. Fourth, the US military is forward deployed all around the globe. Fifth, the number of hulls is what makes the Chinese Navy the world's largest. Since approximately 100 of their ships are coastal frigates or corvettes, suitable for coastal defense and not long range projection, a mission handled for the US by a very capable Coast Guard, the hull count numbers are relatively meaningless. Sixth, US command and control is decentralized which streamlines the decision-making process in the field. Seventh, and this one is strictly informed conjecture, I would expect in the horrific and tragic event that the US were to go to war with China, there would be capabilities deployed by the US that are unknown to all but a very few individuals on a "need to know" basis. While China could have some surprises in store as well, you just have to look at the relative military expenditures over the past 20 years for both countries to extrapolate the power differential. Again, I would emphasize that a shooting war between the United States and China would result in hundreds of thousands if not millions of deaths, the expenditure of trillions of dollars and should be avoided at all costs. It would not serve the best interests of either country nor the rest of the world. While the US would likely win militarily, the entire world would lose.

I should also point out that China cancelled a couple of their capital ship programs. I also missed the fact that a significantly larger proportion of the US Navy's vessels are nuclear powered which means they only require refueling about once every 20 years.

@@ketchfishshow3001 You forgot the fact that most probably Russia would secretly support China initially and if China starts losing, they would openly support China. The reason is that if China collapses, Russia is encroached by the US and the West along its eastern border, which would pose an extremely high threat to Russia. With Russia's help, American allies are not much of a threat to China because China and Russia combined have a higher tech advantage. Also, you don't take into account that China also may be developing secret weapons. Their military is one of the most secretive in the world, and due to the threat they're facing from the US, it's reasonable to assume that they've been developing secret weapons to protect their land at any cost. Add electronic warfare to that and it has a great potential to disrupt American operations in the SCS.

For all those who want to make fun of this and joke around, just imagine if it had exploded in the USA instead and we didn’t know until so many of use had spread it just by touching, coughing, sneezing, no more buffets, no flying you’d have to be aware about your older family members if you have any which are more likely to catch it. Right now in Beijing people cannot come out of their apartment/house only on certain days. The problem is, missile interceptors are often more expensive than the ballistic missiles they're meant to bring down. Not to mention, you'd need to fire multiple interceptors to guarantee a successful intercept. An overwhelming volley of ballistic missiles can, and likely will, cause many losses.

My sister Mychelle Maldonado Baten is a US Navy enlisted sailor. She served for 2 months in bootcamp and passed all the training and exams required to graduate. Moreover, she is back home in California with my family enjoying life. However, if our nation the United States goes to war with China. Unfortunately, this is actually not as true as we would like to believe. 2 things: 1) The US budget pays for US made goods made by Americans who are expensive to employ and corporations that require huge compensation on the executive level. Overall it costs us double to produce the same as any other nation, the advantage is that we are cutting edge. 2) China hides a lot of its military budget.

The US failed in Vietnam, South Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc...and have rammed their high tech ships into cargo containers. That does not bode well for the most powerful navy in the world. When the missiles and torpedoes fly, ships within range don't stand a chance. Just sheer volume would overwhelm any operator. Taking out 1 missile is easy, taking out 100 fired at the same time at one target is impossible.

They retired most of our Frigates during the war on terror only to realize that Frigates are important. They retired all the Spruance class ships, only to realize that ASW is now important. They retired the Battleships, only to realize that shore bombardment capibilities are important. They retired the F-14 only to realize that long range standoff capabilities are important. (This is very late) - but exactly right bro. When the speaker was saying : 'Ships that are smaller than destroyers /cheaper/ less powerful' etc - I was literally saying "Frigate! Frigate! Frigates!" The Zumwalt would have been great to help reduce the number of ships being able to easily target, but that is far too expensive. Remember when an old Swedish submarine 'sunk' a USN carrier? It was at that moment they started taking ASW seriously again.

At the start of a war, US planes and missiles would be knocking out the bases from which the Chinese anti-ship missiles are launched. At long range, carriers are much harder to hit than many people suppose; unlike artificial islands, they won't keep still. To sink a Ford class carrier would require a lot of luck and at least half-a-dozen hits, probably more. There need be no shortage of frigates and corvettes for fleet defence, America's allies are rich in such vessels but poor in large ships, especially carriers. China is completely outclassed and outnumbered at sea and in the air. It is strong on land, but America will not be sending huge armies to fight on the Asian mainland. A protracted war will be fought in much the same way Japan was fought in WW2, island by island..

You are right! I think if China and America have a war, (other than nuclear) it will be mostly navy because none of the sides want to invade each other because it would be too costly. Invading America would be too hard because it’s the most armed place on the planet and it will take a while and invading China will also be hard because they have a huge population, but I think India might try that. At least in the mountain regions they were fighting over a little while ago.

Events in the last ten years have closely paralleled those of the 1930s, when relations between Japan and USA deteriorated every year and the West imposed sanctions. The 2nd Paific War can be expected to go much as the first one did, and again I think the West will win, but not without great difficulty. Xi is biding his time to persuade Taiwan to give in peacefully and to build up his forces ready for war, but I don't think he will wait more than 6 years, perhaps a lot less.

Interesting analysis. However, they are omitting one very important factor: the US Air Force. Is the USAF going to be sitting on their hands while China continues to fire missiles at the US Navy? In addition to the B-2, F-22 and F-35's, the Air Force has other 'weaponry' that has not seen battle yet but was specifically designed to quickly and massively neutralize threats from Russia and China.

eternalobi true but India has historical problems with China which continue to today the Chinese claim the whole of one of India’s northeast provinces and have recently released maps which have changed the names of several Indian cities to Chinese names because the province is believed to be rich in vital minerals. India is becoming a power of its own away from any power block but it is more in its interests to oppose China but that doesn’t necessarily mean supporting or backing America but defending its own territorial integrity.

Chinese land based anti-ship missiles can reach as far Guam. Land based anti-ship missiles from Korea, Japan and Taiwan can hit every single port China has and reach them even if they are just in harbor. China's weakness is that, other than N.Korea, it doesn't have any allies and doesn't seem interested in cultivating any either. It's really difficult to be a blue water naval power w/o access to ports in every ocean. The Portuguese had them, the UK had them and the US has them.
