People would even settle for cutting from 1:1 copies of the masters if tape wear is a concern. That would surely be a reasonable compromise for a stereo AAA set since those tapes surely are heavily played. Given how the people mostly interested in mono are die-hard Beatles fans, I doubt recutting from the mono tapes is that big a deal. Those tapes rarely ever got used after the 70's, hence why I bet they still sounded so good in 2014.

I really like this take. I postponed ordering my box until I got a chance to see reviews and listen for myself. I went and picked up the Target Exclusive "Meet the Beatles" on launch day, cleaned it and listened to it. Honestly to me it started out "grating' or "shrill" (Mainly A1). But then when I considered what they were play homage to and listened through the rest, I realized that this box isn't about being the "definitive Beatles collection" it's about being the "definitive Beatles US VERSION collection". Then I got it! So I'm glad to hear this take. Are these sonic masterpieces suited for audiophile equip demoing? No; but they are the best, new, clean, quality pressings of a nostalgic set LPs that mean a lot to a lot of people. And for that reason, I went ahead and ordered my box. Keep up the great reviews Mike!!!

@MrWinstonOBoogie I liken it to buying dishes from an Antique store. You don't know where they have been, what they came into contact with, and how they were stored. So I wouldn't eat off them without cleaning them even if they "look" clean. Idk about you, but I worked in factories when I was younger and know how dusty, dirty and oily factories can be. This goes for pressing plants. No matter how controlled they try to be, new records will come into contact with dust, dirt, and potentially fingerprints etc especially at the rate they pump these out. If you have a nice stylus/cart, and nice records, playing them uncleaned you take the "risk" dragging that stylus through all that + the paper pulp and static that collect during shipping. To each their own, but I like to clean all the debris off and hit them with anti-static treatment before putting in new rice paper sleeves. Just precautionary to save the life of the LP, Stylus, and ensure I get the best experience out of every disk that goes on my table so I only have to buy once and they last a long time. Everyone is different but setting that baseline of cleanliness is just my preference.

Thanks for the stellar review Mike. I was in high school when the Beatles hit and we never heard anything like them. First heard them on AM radio through my transistor radio. We never heard the word audiophile or stressed over which version sounded best. It was the music itself that appealed to us, we didn't think about the sound quality. These Capital releases are what we got and so new improved versions of them are very appealing to a lot of us. For me, this is not a "money grab", but rather a chance to improve upon one of our childhoods pleasures. I'm glad they're here.

Great video again. I'm a fan of Beatles early releases because they were still a rock n roll band. At this time (1964-65) they still gave concerts, so they were an alive band. Afterwards they were closed at Abbey road studios and their songs became more beautiful but soulless. I live for the day AI will allow Star Cub sessions to be remastered in good audiable quality.

The later albums weren’t chopped up in the US. From Pepper onwards, the US and UK albums were identical, aside from MMT of course, which were different formats. I bought the CDs in the nineties and I’m used to the UK track listings and prefer those, but I like to listen to the Capitol on occasion. Tbh, I like the album tracks better than the “hits” from ‘63-‘64, so the UK albums will probably always be my personal go-to.

I Loved Beatles 65 back in the day and the Canadian only Capitol twist and shout album. And up here in Vancouver Canada we also had Canadian Capitol only she loves you in German language on 45 . I think that the German 45 could become a sleeper Grail rarity

I would say the album configurations used by Capitol was a way to squeeze out more LPs from the band’s output…an important consideration for the label, to make up for the absence of EP sales in the US market.

The uk early albums will get a full remaster with the Peter Jackson equipment to place Joyce’s and instruments in correct soundstage, mono versions will be defunct.

If you've ever heard the original Capitol albums and/or you don't demand audiophile quality, you'll be happy with the new US mono releases. I bought the albums individually and they were all clean except for Something New which had a piece of vinyl debris in the sleeve which scratched the hell out of the record.

What I can't understand is why this box set is listed as $530 in Canada, vs the $300 price tag for the US. Even with the usual 1.4 exchange rate we would be paying over $100 more in Canada. The individual albums are all $54 on the official website. We always pay more but this is extra and I can't figure out why.

Hi. It's Eliot Wien from NY. My only comments about this box set is that it doesn't really need to be analyzed or put under a microscope. The packaging is great quality, and the liner notes by Bruce Spizer are great! As Beatle collectors we're not expecting new songs. They will re-release the same Beatle songs over and over. This is an item to just enjoy. Everybody has the right to choose what they want to purchase, The only thing as Beatle collectors that we have to look forward to is Live recordings or Demos which will probably be released in the form of box sets.

I went with the individual copies! The box set was way too expensive. I’ve been watching various videos on the box set and many say the same thing it’s not worth it. I’m glad that I went with my gut and bought them individually.

I purchased an individual release of the '64 release,& I love it. 29.98$ much cheaper than the box set. It was lacking some bass. I adjusted it to perfection 👌. Also, the box set had no goodies inside them. Mine does. I also do not have the 2014 release. Anyway great review.

I was lucky enough to get the single releases of Beatles For Sale , Sgt. Pepper and The White Album monos in 2014 when they were released individually. No way I could afford the whole box set back then. As far as this box set goes im just getting Meet The Beatles and maybe Something New. After hearing the UK versions years ago I just couldn't go back to the Capitol versions.

Thanks for the video Mike, as a UK listener I agree they do sound good and punchy for what they were intended to do for Capitol - sell records to young people. Unfortunately my set had skipping on 4 of the discs, 1 of which wasn't flat. They all looked clean though, unlike yours, and the box and sleeves were all perfect. Has the French record plant had issues in the past with bad pressings?

I had the same skipping problems with the 3 records I purchased. No amount of cleaning and fiddling with the tracking did much to solve the issue. The two worst are going back. It's a shame but it puts me off the release generally.

Thanks for the review Mike! Do you know if there is typically a difference in pressing quality between the box set versions and individually purchased pressings? All of the reviews that I've seen of this box set thus far have been mostly positive, but I don't have the box set yet to compare. I did purchase an individual black vinyl copy of Meet the Beatles, and it's slightly dish-warped (which could just be bad luck), but notably, the last track in Side 1 'All My Loving' seems to sound distorted to me, especially noticeable in the vocal. Even more so than my VG+ 1964 Mono Scranton pressing, which sounds cleaner on that particular track. Does your copy of Meet The Beatles from the box set exhibit any distortion on 'All My Loving'? For what it's worth, I have the Let It Be Box set from 2021 as well as an individual pressing release of the same release, and the vinyl in that box set sounds better to me than the individually purchased copy. Just wondering if they generally put better pressings, or take more care with the vinyl that goes into the box sets vs. individual pressings, or if I've just had bad luck?

I picked up “Beatles ‘65” and “Hard Days Night”, I thought they sounded great, vinyl is stone silent, but I also noticed they are really loud. The volume on my receiver is pretty much at the same level for most of my records, I found I had to turn these two down quite a bit. They didn’t sound distorted or anything, just really loud. Is that a modern mastering thing or just how the originals sounded? The only original I have is “Meet The Beatles”, but it’s the stereo version.

Now that I have and love The Beatles 1964 US Box Set Mono and the Roll Stones Mono Box Set. I would love to see a British Invasion 64-65 US Mono Box Set to complete the era. Initially, you stated that the copy of "Meet The Beatles" which was in your box set had non-fill. What happened with that????????? OK. I found a common problem with 2 different copies of the mono "Meet The Beatles" album. I bought a black vinyl copy from Amazon and the exclusive color vinyl copy from Target. Although all of the writing scribed in the deadwax is identical, what separates them is that the color vinyl version on Side 1 has the MPO logo with stamped numbers following. So, they are from different stampers. The common flaw is just before the first track, Side 1, "I Want To Hold Your Hand", there is a pop. Visibly, I can't see it on the record, although I can hear it. Moving the record, slowly, by hand, where the pop is, it doesn't show up either, like a normal flaw might. After digitizing it as a wav file, I looked at the blown-up graph of the flaw. It was definitely there. And, remember this was one 2 separate copies. This means that the flaw could go back to the original lacquer and all made from that lacquer are flawed. The scribed, identical, matrix number in the deadwax is: M2 MTB P56 0060246819718 . A . You have to read between the lines and not be emotional buying records.. yes the albums are the best versions of the capital records but is it worth owning this box set ...i pulled my order online because like many other beatles releases and this ..its not what the people want. Let's face reality. We all want the 2014 mono releases... and people ive learnt the hard way, dont emotional buy records just to have them, 1. only buy what you love and 2. what stands the test of time. Solid engineered albums and musically impeccable albums.

The Apple Master Plan is to release all the crap first, and then, in about another 5-10 years, after all the stock of crap has been sold and fans have provided proof of their loyalty, there will be another remastering - or re-pressing (I suspect there are still many unused tampers from the 2014 Mono set stored away) of the Mono box. An analog Stereo set to replace the 2012 "CD on vinyl"? That will probably come first, and THEN the Mono. Whether the sound is superior or not will be irrelevant. Most of us current fans will be dead or deaf and it won't matter. But Apple Corp will still rake in billions in profits from the fans. Andrew from Parlogram mentioned that the 2014 Mono boxes were NOT as profitable to Apple as originally expected as the boxes didn't exactly fly off the shelves, and the meticulous care invested in them was just too expensive to reproduce on this new Capitol box release. Therefore, there will be more crap to compensate for the losses. I am confident I will own either a 1982 Red Mono Box, a 2014 Mono box or the next one to be released, before I die. I calculate I've got another 20 years left.

I bought Something new. The packaging is great but there are 4 or 5 tracks that are the same mix as the British version (in mono which I have already) I bought this because it's supposed to be the American version. I feel ripped off. If I'm listening from the other room it doesn't bug me but when I do listen in the same room its got that flat murky sound to me. I have the CD version of the first four US Capitol albums which are honestly the best as they have both versions of each album in mono and stereo side by side on the same disc. In truth what I want is the stereo American versions with voices on one channel and backing tracks on the other. This is what I grew up with. The booklet inside the jacket tells you (after you've purchased it) that some of the tracks are the British version. Buyer beware. These are not really what you think they are. It's similar to what they did with the CD box that has the band pictured in front of an American flag. Track listing was like the US version but mixes are mostly the same as the British versions. I prefer to hear the stereo versions anyway because I can hear more of the drums and top end etc.

And I did not compare to my UK mono's as I don't think that's a fair comparison given Capitol were not given master tapes from Martin anyway. These were cut to sound as the OG's did. My sonic review: 'Meet The Beatles' is a disappointment. Sounds like someone threw a blanket over my speakers. But from 'The Second Beatles' Album' on, the sound is more open and dynamic. Some might say a little 'bright', but I'm a treble guy. I wanted the box, so sue me: I paid big bucks for the inclusion of 'The Beatles' Story'. Thanks for your review.

The Beatles' Story belongs in there but the box should cost more like $230. The market is in a different place than it was in 2014 but these albums are also in less demand than the UK albums. Selling a smaller box reduces Apple's risk.

If you really want to compare the reissue vinyl, I would honestly suggest comparing them to the early 2000’s Capitol Albums CD sets which used the same tapes (except for ‘A Hard Day’s Night’, but you can mostly use “Something New” for that, as George Martin made the same mixes available to UA and Capitol). If you’re lucky enough to run across a “Dr. Ebbetts” edition of the US Singles Collection you can judge the remaining tracks - they are very faithful reproductions of the best original copies that could be sourced.

If vinyl stores are trying to push this crap then maybe the vinyl market is in deep trouble or maybe it is just me, that thinks this meet the Beatles 2024 sounds awful, and how can you make the Beatles sound awful , well they actually accomplished it .

Of course not the purpose of the box but I think it would have been cool to have ran some sort of crazy campaign in which they used the mono masters but kept the American song order. That would have made great sounding American versions with the American covers still used. Call it “The American Capitol Albums UnDextorized” or maybe “American Beatles …Naked” ..oh..wait..that’s been used. What’s up with making the Beatles look like Veruca Salt from Willy Wonka on Meet The Beatles? Good gosh color match that one guys.

Meet the Beatles sounds like crap, and I love the Beatles but dam , if this was my only Beatles record I owned I would start listening to tiny tim tiptoe thru the tulips, even if I got high, well I would not waiste good pot, I might get really depressed if I head this record high and really listen while high , dam I don't know what to say
