Their vocals are on another level! | BTOB Killing Voice performance reaction

Hey everyone! Glad to have you here!
A little info about my kpop journey:
In May 2022 I randomly happened upon a fancam of Bang Chan from Stray Kids and immediately got sucked into the kpop rabbithole.
Before this I had only heard a few kpop songs (read: BigBang - Bang Bang Bang and Fantastic Baby, Super Junior - Sorry Sorry, Shinee - Ring Ding Dong and Lucifer, F(x) - Red Light and Electric Shock and last but not least PSY - Gangnam Style) but had never looked deeper into it.
Now I'm here and I primarily follow Ateez, Stray Kids and religiously but I'm also very interested in a lot of other groups (Hongjoong, I'm sorry)

The guy with the green hair, Hyunsik is the son of a famous Korean singer. He was the one, a few years after their debut who decided he wanted to try writing his own music, after which Minhyuk and Eunkwang wanted to try as well. Now BtoB writes most of their own music.

Love this comment! Slight correction - I believe the composer line was into writing their own music even before they debuted. But just like others, it will be up to the company whether their self-written songs can make the cut for the albums. I remember Minhyuk mentioning that Hyunsik had let him listen to Star when he first joined the company. And Star eventually got into their 3rd mini album in 2013 - this was the 1st self-composed song by a member to be included. And since then, every year, Hyunsik/Ilhoon/Minhyuk has had a self-composed track for BTOB as a b-side. Hyunsik had prayed every year for one of his songs to be selected as the title track. And finally achieved his dream in 2016 with IBYM. Since then, the title tracks have mainly been the members' and they have a lot of B-sides written by them too. Self-produced group for sure 🩵

Actually all 6 of them have solo projects and most of them already have solo albums. All of them are going to continue as BTOB, but Changsub and Sungjae are signed to different agencies that will also be handling their acting/entertainment jobs because Sungjae is a very popular actor and Changsub has been doing a lot of variety/reality shows lately, like Jeongwaja (a show where he visits different universities in Korea to try out different majors).

❤jeonggwaja (is it?) is so famous that just days checkout its views. Already reached million. And that is a fact that maybe one of the reasons i kept following Changsub's variety shows in the past. I got curious why many liked it. He is a humurous and enthusiastic host. ❤

Thank you so so so much for reacting to this. I didn't mean to annoy you with my requests, haha but I've seen how you enjoyed watching them in Kingdom and I think you'll enjoy watching this performance, too. Yes, the one whose voice you liked a lot is Sungjae, the maknae and also a very good actor. He won Best Actor award for his latest kdrama 2 yrs ago. When it comes to music and singing, these guys are dead serious..behind the stage they are goofballs and loud kids teasing each other. How you saw them in Kingdom..funny, playful and friendly with the other groups..that's how they really are with each other and to their fans. Yes, after leaving Cube last November and having those trademark rights issues and staying away from the public for a while, Changsub signed contract under Fantagio coz he's a musical actor and immediately needed a managing company for his musicals while Sungjae, being an actor, signed under IWillMedia. Then the rest: Eunkwang, Minhyuk, Hyunsik and Peniel signed together under a "new company" that they kept secret for a while. It was on Feb 21st that they revealed that they now established BTOB COMPANY for the members and will prioritize group activities. Hyunsik has just released his 2nd mini album (The Young Man and the Deep Sea) a few days ago..kindly check out his new song, LA MAR that can be found on BTOB COMPANY channel for the English subs. Whie the live performance is on 1theK LIVE channel. In March, there will be a BTOB group comeback (and it will be their 12th year, too) so watch out for their new song. Then in April, Changsub will be having a solo comeback so watch out for it, too. If you enjoy Changsub's vocals, kindly check out his solo album, MARK..the songs there are so good. Changsub is also a musical actor ( Eunkwang as well ). Hyunsik is the music mastermind, produced a lot of BTOB songs, he made a solo come back recently with LA MAR....reallly worth checking. Minhyuk ( also called HUTA for his solo projects ), also created some songs and most of the rap lyrics. Sungjae...the maknae is an actor....you can see him in Goblin, golden spoon, Mystic popupbar and some others. Most of them are also variaty shows MCs. Peniel is from Chicago, and he has an english speaking variety show with some other english speaking idols.

I really suggest you check out BTOB's I'll Be Your Man, especially live stages! They used to even perform in without in-ears! Crazy! One thing to know about BTOB, they are really humble and they knew Skz was gonna do I'll Be Your Man so they "acted" a bit to hype up their hoobaes for taking on IBYM, when it really is a major challenge! They "act/exagerate" sometimes for the camera to make it more entertaining, but Melodies always clock it lol. We all knew they decided the songs before that time they "discussed" what song to sing in Eunwkang's house, when Changsub said "it's too high" (he's usually the most likely one to take on the highest harmony when they sing together btw, lol). They actually revealed things afterwards. They said in a live talk show after Kingdom: the producer of Kingdom wanted them to do Missing You for their first full performance, when they wanted to do Missing You as the 100sec intro stage, so they did as they were told instead lol. (= they didn't decide it at Eunkwang's house, they just had an excuse to eat pizza and acted a bit bc all the groups had to do so for mnet's production team to have something to put out between their live stages lol). Also, they ALWAYS say "it's too high"/"I can't do it" and then always SLAY the performances lmao. There's a video made by Korean Melody, of them saying "I can't do it (etc)", then on the rehearsal they are just standing there, not a single sweat drop, ABSOLUTELY slaying it with NO facial exprecions, looking like they do this in their sleep. Cut to their official performance afterwards, them doing all these facial expressions, making it seem like the high notes are so hard to pull off (minutes before, they had no expressions lmao) and that how it goes. All men do is lie! (jk). No but their songs ARE super hard but it doesn't mean they won't absolutely slay it if they attempt the performance. I don't think there is anything BTOB can't do! Their songs also do have very high keys. Btw, the point of IBYM is the 4-part harmonies with 2 rappers rapping over it. I think they just didn't want to "town it down" to 2-part harmonies and therefor didn't perform it. I'm grateful Skz choose it, because it deserves the love that the song has gotten again, since it's release! (Sorry for the long comment!) Thank you for the reaction, looking forward for more!☺💙

I've checked out your reaction to their Introduction and Round 1 stages from Kingdom before this, and I really enjoyed those as well, especially your reaction to their 'Missing You' peeformance (the one where Minhyuk had a sword dance). If you want to know more about them, I would recommend checking out their guide, but these are some information that I would like to share with you.The members from left to right are: - Lee Minhyuk/Huta (2nd eldest, 1 of most athletic idol, composed a lot of songs for BTOB but mostly on the B-side, also known as HUTA when he releases solo songs) - Yook Sungjae (youngest/maknae of the group, well-known as drama actor) - Seo Eunkwang (leader and eldest of the group, musical actor) - Im Hyunsik (4th eldest, known as father of BTOB's music because he composed a lot of title-songs for BTOB) - Lee Changsub (3rd eldest, intro-fairy (because he usually sings the intro of their songs with his airy and emotional voice), musical actor) - Peniel Shin Donggeun (5th eldest, born-raised in Chicago, had alopecia so he usually keeps his hair short, active in podcasts with other American-Korean artists) - Ex-member: Jung Ilhoon (6th eldest, main rapper of the group, were also active as composer) These boys were trained to be a band group, acapella group, and acrobatic group. They can dance and will always sing live. Their songs are also really hard to cover because their songs have multiple layers of harmonies and powerful adlibs. All the rappers write their own lyrics for their parts in their songs since the early days until now. Thank you so much for reacting to BTOB and complimenting our Yook Sungjae alot. He is my bias and I love him so much. I just really appreciate people that are being mesmerized by his voice. Tbh I observe alot of people where normally start to become his fans because of him being an actor and him having a great visual, but for me I became his fan the moment I heard is voice. I know all BTOB vocal lines are great singers and musicaly inclined, also very intentional on their techniques and knowledge in music, but Sungjae's voice is like a rest to my soul. The raspiness on his belts using mixed voice is a god tier and the emotions he always put to it will make you feel the music. Hope to see more reactions in the future. My fav is their Someday Live Performance, you should try to check it.

Their b-side songs is beautiful too, in my playlist i have the outro incore its a beautiful song, blooming day, dreaming, heaven, red lie, a side of missing you, its okay, and remember that, this song that i mentioned is my personal favorite of their songs. Since you said you love harmony, I'm going to plug Big Mama's Killing Voice! They debuted in 2003, and all of them now are vocal teachers and professors at acclaimed universities in SK. One of the members, Lee Jiyoung, actually taught Changsub and Hyunsik! And their leader is now a Dean at I believe Changsub's former college. They're known as professor-dols now lmao. Almost all of their songs include amazing harmony and some awesome early 2000s goodness. I hope you watch it if you haven't already!

lol about IBYM - Changsub complains (frequently) that songs are too high. He complained about Back Door being too high. (no lie I love skz, but they can't hit and sustain the notes that Changsub can. Experience, vocal training, and different natural registers) Yet every time he does the higher parts with Eunkwang (even sick! he was actually sick while doing Back Door) and took care of some of the lower notes on Kingdom because their two lower tones (Hyunsik and Sungjae) were still enlisted and Eunkwang can't get down as far. Long story short: Changsub complains about IBYM all the time but does it anyway. Minhyuk said that he wasn't singing for IBYM so it really would have just been Eunkwang and Changsub trying to do the full harmony with Minhyuk and Peniel rapping below it.

I love BTOB! If you like BTOB's vocals I suggest listening to EXO'S Killing Voice. They did a one shot, one kill. Ran through it once without going back to fix any area's. EXO are known as the King of Vocals on the Kpop industry. And they truly are.
